And also, the way, if you know darts, that he set this up- a difficult win, but because it doesn't rely on the outside doubles means he can properly rub Ruperts smarmy nose in it (they're playing much closer than proffesional darts due to the bar, as in the physical bar, being right behind them)
@urbypilot2136 Жыл бұрын
Notice how when Ted picks up the darts, it was with his left hand. He gets a feel for them first, judging the weight and the current state of the fins. All before he throws it with his right hand to draw Rupert into a situation where he can be hustled. That right there, is an example of excellent writing and acting.
@seanellio2 жыл бұрын
After watching this clip at least 100 times, I finally caught something. When Ted says "Whatever you say 'Rupe-a-Dupes'." he is making a reference to the boxing phrase "Rope-A-Dope". A boxer feigns weakness or pain and leans into the ropes. This brings his opponent in close. Boxer then has the upper hand ind is able to strike with great effect. Mohamed Ali did this famously well.

One of the (many!) things I love about this scene, is actually the way that Rupert leaves after he's lost. He doesn't lose his temper, he doesn't create a big fuss, and nor does anybody gloat openly in his face. He just quietly walks out, and no one says a word. It's a very telling moment. It would have been so easy to write this scene and give Rupert a huge temper tantrum after he's lost, or to get the Richmond fans to make a big gloat at him...but it doesn't. And that right there is the uniqueness and beauty of the writing of Ted Lasso.
@beezerbrit Жыл бұрын
Because Rupert knows AS A NARCISSIST that he has to keep his reputation in tact for being endlessly charismatic. He refers to the new Rebecca as a consolation prize, he’s an asshole through and through but a well practiced narcissist knows when to turn it on and off again. Having a tantrum would have been out of character completely and careless writing. He only loses it at the end when he realizes he’s about to lose everything.

Ted is a hero but he chooses to be a pure soul. He is full of anger, doubt, pain - we see it when he drinks, when he has anxiety attacks. He was not made perfect. Ted has made a DECISION to deflect the world's crap AROUND himself and it doesn't always work, the armour is not 100%, but he is consciously, deliberately walking the path of kindness and understanding for reasons of strategy, not because he was necessarily born that way.
