I think it's interesting to see, after rewatching the show, how Jamie treats people who aren't part of the football world, especially fans. He's actually very kind to kids and people who work jobs around him (like the chauffeur). Little moments like that just hint at the person he's going to develop into.

One of the things I like about this show is the way they bring reality into the show, such as Jamie being on This Morning (actual British daytime TV show) and Roy appearing on Soccer Saturday (an actual football punditry show). And yes, the guy with the beard next to Roy is the previous Richmond manager that Rebecca fired in episode 1 Also, Tooting is a real place in London - if you've ever heard about/watched the sitcom Only Fools and Horses, it's set in Tooting. But if you think that's bad, there are places in the UK called Shitterton, Bitchfield, Wetwang and Cockermouth, and that's just for starters.

TBH, it's a little weird from a British perspective that they make such a big deal of all the ties. I get they call it that for the international audience (and it's not the only thing), but they're not called ties in football. They're draws. And they're filming in England with English writers and actors, so it's definitely a choice they've made rather than something they've overlooked.

Quick thing bout episode 2. I think that the Jamie returning reveal was done for the audience's behalf. There's no way that any player, much less a player of Jamie's caliber can just return without management knowing bout it beforehand. I mean there's all these financial details that would have to be ironed out before he could even step on the field. Also I don't believe that Ted would bring back Jamie without talking to the team first. I think that maybe Jamie came in late after training started. IMO - those were not looks of shock, but more like 'uh oh here we go' & Sam's look at Ted more like 'I told you so'. Anyway, that's my take on the situation 🤔

This show is amazing. Great writing, great performances, great everything. But the soccer fan occupying the back of my head? When Roy brings Issac out to the 'playground' to straighten him out is my favorite football scene in the series. "Roy, I'm a professional, mate! I'll kill 'em!" "We'll see..". It's entirely true that 'you don't have to know anything about soccer to enjoy the show' - but all these little easter eggs planted there for those of us that love the game just makes me love the show even more.

Ties, or draws as they are called, properly, over in the UK, are more valuable than you think. A premiership season is played over 38 games, each team plays the other teams twice. A win will get you three points in the league, a loss will get you nothing, but a draw is worth 1 point. At the end of the season that one point could win the Premiership, or be the difference between 4th and 5th slot, which would mean Champions League football in Europe the following season and all the money that can bring.
@korganrocks3995
@korganrocks3995 11 ай бұрын
Draws were so valuable that they had to change the entire points system from 2 to 3 points for a win! At this point I feel it's time for a new change, namely no points for a scoreless draw.

That's such a hard concept for fans of the game here in the US to explain to non-football people. The points table rewards steady performance over a season, not just occasional brilliant performances from an unsteady club. Of course, over here (in MLS), all a good standing on the table gets you is your spot in the 'playoffs'. There * is * a trophy here for whoever is highest on the table, it's called the "Supporters' Shield", but ask most managers, players, and especially fans - they'd all rather win the Cup instead. As an American I actually enjoy the 'do or die' excitement of a playoff system. But as a footy fan, I justify it to myself by just treating the playoffs as a tournament.
@korganrocks3995
@korganrocks3995 11 ай бұрын
@@panamafloyd1469I understand the appeal of a playoff system, but I prefer the European system where you get rewarded with a trophy for steady performance, while also having 2-3 playoff-style tournaments for those "do or die" experiences. It also means that when a team wins multiple trophies in a single season, you know they were more than just a team good enough to get to the playoffs who then went on a month or two of good form(and good luck with the draw and injuries).
@panamafloyd1469
@panamafloyd1469 11 ай бұрын
@@korganrocks3995 , sometimes I think that there's just not enough football over here. Our first division (MLS) is pretty much it. We do have lower divisions, but they often play on college campuses & other facilities. MLS was created using the business model that NBA/NFL use. Older clubs just don't have the resources to gain entrance to the first division. The league pretty much requires that the applicant has enough money to build a multi-kilodollar new stadium, and just picks a city where the rich corporate guys scrounge up enough money to do it. IMO, that's also the reason we don't have promotion/relegation here. None of the corporate organizations buying their way into MLS are going to spend that much on the infrastructure, if the risk of relegation is hanging over their head. It's an odd time for real football in the US right now - the sport's more popular than it has ever been, but not for long enough for people to have loyalty to their local club, instead of the 'bright & shiny' MLS club that's established in their town. Apologies in advance for the novel I wrote on your comment, I guess the TL;DR: is, "We're trying over here, man!!" 🤣

If you haven''t seen Jerry McGuire, its time. The whole end of the episode was a nod to that film with Tom Cruise and Rene Zellweger. Many others included of course but that was the one that made me laugh and cry as Roy raced to the stadium to become a coach.

I never understood the Rebecca and Ted shippers. 1. She’s his boss and 2. He’s slept with her friend a few times so that’s just weird as hell 😂

Stop pretending you care about the ethical aspect of Rebecca being Sam's boss when she's also Ted's boss but you wouldn't have cared if it was them two.

Were they playing Crystal Palace? Red, gold and blue uniforms like Barcelona? Because they have a bald eagle mascot.

I always find it curious the difference when people think Rebecca is texting tes vs sam. A lot of people bring up the power dynamic for Sam only, when a similar dynamic exists with Ted but seems to get treated differently or ignored.

Ted's fear of being replaced by a therapist is not that far fetched, though.

@@avengemybreath3084What the hell does that have to do with anything? I don't wanna go into spoilers, but the comment you're replying to has nothing to do with anything "woke", and the black, female therapist has actual flaws and a character arc, so she isn't some token Mary Sue minority character forced into the show to pander to the audience. So what exactly is the issue, other than you not liking non-white and/or non-male people?

I'm not 100% but calling the kid Bernard might have been a Richard Curtis reference as they were parodying Notting Hill which he wrote and he said in an interview he normally puts a character in his scripts named Bernard who is usually very unlikeable as his first girlfriend left him for a guy named Bernard

"I really want Ted and Rebecca to be together"...also..."Rebecca and Sam shouldn't be together because she's his boss"....ummm, Rebecca is Ted's boss too....so.....LOL...wanting the main two characters to get together is natural because it's basically what every show does....but I never thought Lasso was like every other show.
