I think what I appreciate most about this that truly shows how much Jamie has grown can be boiled down to one very small, seemingly insignificant moment. When Jamie is attempting to explain why the system isn't working he realizes he needs to use the board to explain it clearly. As he is walking up to the board he very earnestly asks "Is it okay? Could I?" to the coaches, pointing to the board indicating he would like to use it to illustrate his point. Old Jamie tartt would not have cared at all as long as he was getting paid and had a dope life. Moreover, if he wanted to make a point, he would make it regardless of anyone's feelings. In that single moment/line he both shows that he cares about this team and also how he treats other people by being kind, honest and earnest. In a show full of incredibly well written character arcs and growth, I think Jamie's takes the cake.

Couldn't say it better myself. He recognized what he said could seem rude and judgemental so he prefaced it and tried his best to word it in a constructive way. He went from the most obnoxious character to the guy I was rooting for most. He deserves happiness after all the work he put in.

This is exactly what Ted told Jamie about in season one. No one ever denied Jamie was an incredible player, even Roy told him season one "God blessed your left foot", but despite that talent he made himself too much of a liability that no team wanted him. But by this episode he's become such a different man and a far better player. He's no longer that fit kid who can score every goal for the team, he's a leader, a football strategist and most importantly: a team player. His pause before explaining Total Football says it all, he's never had people look to him like this, the level of respect and trust his TEAM has in him. Jamie Tart is no longer the kid saying "Pass it to me" because he's doing all the passing, he trusts his team's ability to score because they trust his ability to lead them to that victory. Obviously he can still score goals but when the other teams are expecting that you have to be able to actually do other things in the sport, especially at the professional level. In Beard's Total Football presentation he brought up how Jamie played it at Man City, he knows what it's supposed to look like and shows he's more than just someone who scores goals and pisses off the other team (and everyone). It's so truly beautiful how far he's come and amazing to see the truly legendary athlete he becomes.

Two phrases that make the hair on my arms stand up. “That was bloody gorgeous, a majestic symphony of a goal”, and “Nelson road is in Rapture!!!!!!” Well done by Arlo. If you play FIFA 23, this moment actually had a massive impact on Richmond's default squad. Instead of playing the 4-4-2 as the default formation they utilized at the start of the season, they swapped to Jamie's 4-3-3 formation and even changed his natural position into an attacking midfielder. Plus they also added Zava to the roster during that same update (and then later changed Bumberbatch's nationality from English to Swiss).

I saw a comment from someone I assume knows far more about the Premier league than I do. Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola (who cameos as himself in the show) actually has used a version of Total Football in real life so of course Jamie who played for Manchester City would be more familiar with Total Football and know how to fix what Richmond is doing wrong, he's actually played it before.
@cookiecrispwizard
@cookiecrispwizard Жыл бұрын
Pep uses a lot of different tactics, total football influences it but it's not the central part of Man City in my opinion. They do a variety of things, using a counter-press, inverting fullbacks to get into the attack (and having the fullbacks go wide), and they use formations that are historically not really used in total football, such as 5-3-2, 4-2-5 where the goalkeeper will come out with the defense, and the 4-2-3-1, even though the base formation last season when Man City won the treble was a 4-3-3. Another good scene in Ted Lasso is in the episode where Zava leaves and they have to play Man City without them. Trent suggests using long ball football, but everyone else says they would be screwed trying that because it's so old school. In reality, long ball football is another big part of Man City's attack and some of their build-up play, they get a lot of momentum from John Stones' ability to get accurate long balls to the final third and into the feet of Erling Haaland, who is pretty much automatic when he gets into the box. Truly I think the Man City system revolves around possession, passing, and pressing to move the ball high up the pitch and get the ball to Haaland to create chances and score goals.

They literally mention it in the start of the episode and during the presentation Beard gives, they even jokingly say that Jamie could be Pep's successor, like Pep was to Cruyff. It's right there in the episode dude, they play into the "Pep student" thing for everyone to see, that was the whole point, it's not like it was a hidden reference or anything 😂

Watching a his scene back; and feels like a perfect culmination and satisfying culmination of so many arcs. Nate’s false 9 and having strikers dropping deep perfectly wrapped up with Jaimie wanting to drop deep. Jaime’s own arc with him no longer wanting to be the best player on the team and rather just one of many good attackers. Very Harry Kane-esque. He no longer is insecure over Rojas being on the team and the happy to create chances instead, draw defenses out and be a decoy. Roy is a successful coach with one of his closer players growing in their play style and attitude. For Ted, it’s the first time we see him take the lead on tactics and it works wonders. No longer leaving it to his coaching staff. Vindication for Trent since he wrote about the Ted Lasso way. Not only is his commitment to players vindicated. But there’s a Bonafide tactic too.

I’ve watched this clip a bunch. Finally noticed this. At 2:19 both Beard and Roy give Ted their accolades on the success of the play. Before it took Roy and Nate to get things moving on the field for success. And when it happened Ted was first to congratulate whoever came up with the idea. Now that he brought the total football scheme to the fold he’s the one who’s gets the pat on the back. Yes it’s Jamie who figures out it’s best use, but as someone commented on this board that Ted planted that seed into Jamie early in the show. And Trent Crimm figures it out in the following scene.

so, basically, being a striker means that the position will end with you. You will take the shot, and that will either go in or not; whatever happens the possession will end. That's what "Going to me" means, since every possesion starts with the aim of finding him at the end. But, in this number 10 role, they play through him, so he takes the ball, and passes on, and he doesn't end up being the "finisher". A team with a player that is much better than the rest usually goes for this tactic, mainly lower national teams, because the role he is playing in this clip is really hard for an average player to do.

I know it's minor but just the fact Jamie asked Ted for permission to use the board shows how he has changed.

Great moment. But I can't tell who actually scored that goal. Jamie passed it back and the announcer said the name but I couldn't make it out. A little help?

i love how they used Pep's tactic when he used Messi as a false 9 and destroyed Real Madrid in 2009

Angle's a little different, but when I see Bumbercatch to Goodman I think Gomes to Alba in Messi's 500th.

This is what people don't get. The best players MAKE the plays, and not just the goal scorer. See Wayne Gretzky in hockey.

it such a shame how badly they ruined Season 3. it was a great show until they went down the "let's make it a politically divided season bc why not" route

Politically divided? Are you referring to the part with the refugees and Sam’s tweet? Bc being originally from Nigeria and the difficulties that come from that has always been a big part of Sam’s character.

@@crystalcavernartwork722 they still could've done it without the politics. there was no reason to get involved in that realm.

@@sayso6119politics is life dude , I literally saw a dude bitching about how more shows should be like this one and not force woke politics on a video where colin comes out , I thought he was oblivious but he's half right , the show is woke but it doesn't judge anyone and it's a show literally about british male sports and how the media views it and there's probably whole university theses on ted lasso relationship to masculinity and every part of the setence british male sports is political , get triggered snowflake

That is such nice character development. He learned to communicate effectively to his team mates His team mates learned to communicate to him It wasn’t pretty, but, good teams at least find a way to establish communication that is applicable to help the team success 🫡
