Ted Neely is the quintessential "Jesus". The 1973 version will never be topped.
@MariaGraziaFels9 жыл бұрын
As you know Ted Neely is in Italy with JCS tour. It's amazing How much he is fllowed and loved by Italians. You really can't imagine! I sometimes write on Facebook of his incredible voice. I would like share with you my feelings. Since I heard Ted Neeley live (three times at the Sistina), I have to say that his voice, his acting, passion and torment make an unique in the world and inimitable interpretation that is and remains insuperable. The 2014 Jesus Christ Superstar is very different from the one of the film and Ted is able to communicate new thrilling and even more intense feelings than the ones he gave us in the film. His voice has became a musical instrument with a thousand sounds, the tone is deep and dramatic and his scratched treble, still perfect, is a pure painful shout turned toward a God who seems distant and indifferent. The Ted's scream is the desperate cry of the human being created for the eternity and destined instead to death and dissolution. Peace , love and light to all of you.

His face acctually became the face of Jesuschrist due to the movie!

I guess it's not due to the movie but due to the mental projections and mental fashioning and imaginations of hundreds of millions of believers and non believers around the world that projected their thoughts and emotions on the actor and artist Ted Neeley. Every thought and every emotion in the world of energy has it's effect. It's an expression of the desperation and longing of millions of human souls üwho desperately long for being reunited with our heavenly father as it was the case before the fallen angels led to the fall of man.

Seriously tho... WHY the watermark smack dab in the center of the video? We all know that by all rights you are not the guy who actually filmed it, ya could have politely put it in one of the four corners...

I literally "bumped into" Ted Neeley around 1981 while walking into a store in Westwood, California. I was looking down like a typical dopey teenager as I was walking into a shop and almost ran into him as he was coming out. I saw the sandals first, slowly panned up, and there he was. JESUS. And believe it or not, he was wearing the robe. I think he might have been doing a performance in town and decided to take a walk around town. I immediately thought about every bad thing I had said and done, unpaid parking tickets, etc., because I had just seen Jesus Christ Superstar and to me, Ted was HIM. If he had been wearing shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, I probably still would have thought he was JC in the flesh. I said hello and started fawning over how great he was in the movie. He smiled benignly and thanked me, then asked me a few questions about myself. He was kind even to a punk kid who wouldn't let him leave a store. A very sweet man. I hope to meet him again someday.

He has never changed, or seemed impatient, bothered, rushed, hurried, bored or ill - tempered but always a gentleman in the interviews I've seen him in from the 70's through the early 21st century. If Mohandas K. ( Mahatma ) Gandhi had met him, he might've revised his quote " I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ ". The world could use more Ted Neeleys.

Ted is fully aware how huge his responsibility is to "be" Jesus for anyone that tries to understand the mysteries behind our Lord and savior. He's a true servant of the Lord with a level of humility that only a true believer can have.

The Hostess is Dini Petty. I haven’t seen her in decades. She started at CKEY (radio) in Toronto as a traffic reporter, piloting the helicopter. Later she went to CityTV, also in Toronto, as a news anchor. I’m sorry I missed this interview with Ted Neeley when it originally aired. But I’m delighted to see it posted here on KZbin.

Thank-you! I was trying to figure out who she was. I was guessing Jane Pauley (looks a lot like Jane), and they are of a similar age, but when she said she was from southern England, that theory went out the window! 😂

+scottjulie27 Yeah Ted was a rock drummer in his small home town of Ranger, TX. His band even played the churches there. He met Carl & became friends long before JCS. In NYC they were involved in both "Hair" & "Tommy."

I must give thanks to my stepfather who had me watch it some years ago with him and I was hooked. I have it set on my DVR for next Sunday, June 4 and I am going to watch it again. I was listening to the song that he was singing called I only wanted to say and his voice made me cry. Not in a bad way. But his delivery, and his emotion through the whole song. And, I am a Christian myself and I love the film. Some Christians was against the movie from what I have heard but I loved it. The film came out five years before I was even born. But I am glad to listen to it on film since I can't see the movie.

FINALLY.......!!!! someone giving mad respect to canadian director norman jewison, the 73 version of jcs. imagine all the iconic moments in this movie, it only enhances the beautifully rich songs of tim rice and andrew lloyd webber.....eg..the priests scene with caiaphus and fellow priests banging on the scaffolding or the last song, where judas comes down from heaven on a crane to see jesus blossom from ted neely
