Nice reaction. No one surpasses Ted's performance of this song. I can't even count the number of times I have listened to him sing this and it affects me so deeply each time. It's good to see more creators react to this. For awhile there were only two so thanks again 🙂💕.

I enjoyed it too. If you want to see the same song in Spanish (even if you do not know Spanish it is worth the look see), try Camilo Sesto: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGiYhoGAmcR2hMk

Ted Neeley I'm sure has made Jesus very proud...not only with his portrayal but how he also walked the earth.......To me, Ted's voice & personality is untouchable.

The raw emotion and vulnerability in Ted Neely's singing and performance will get you every time. No other performer who has done Jesus (with the exception of Ian Gillan, who performed it equally as good) has ever surpassed Ted Neely in this particular performance.

I saw the Broadway touring musical twice with Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson. Irene Cara was in it as was Dennis DeYoung from Styx playing the part of Pontius Pilate one of the times he came to town. Ted Neeley was excellent as Jesus and still was singing this in his 70s. One of my favorite musicals but I have a few favorites with Hamilton being up there too.

The brown album with Ian Gillan as Jesus came out in October 1970..the same month I turned 13. I was addicted to this album version and Gillans amazing performance. The movie version took me a little longer to warm up to but quickly became my regular viewing choice. Ted should have awards heaped on him for his performance. I have listened to this hundreds and hundreds of times over the years and the pending explosion of emotion is apparent in his neck and veins as he pours them out in that visceral screaming climactic notes. I cannot watch it without tears...not once.

His performance on the stage in his 60s is beyond unbelievable. Please watch that video 😢❤

Oh, I disagree greatly. It was obvious that he aged out of the role.

Did you know that this was filmed in the actual garden of Gethsemane? All the actors were deeply effected just by being there...for the rest of their lives.

Really? No wonder it’s made such an impact!✨

..Or what is claimed by locals to be the same garden. The fact is that no one knows exactly where it was,- and more to the point , if it really even existed., or if the story is fact or pure fiction. Same with the location of Golgotha. And what about the dead in every Jerusalem cemetery rising, the earth quaking, and noon turning to darkest night? Shouldn't the Romans have bothered to write just a sentence or two about such wonders, and wouldn't everyone in Jerusalem, have automatically converted to Christianity at such sights? None of the story can be even remotely proven to have happened. But that is not to say that there was no garden of Gethsemane, Real places have been used as settings for many fictional stories- just as there really is a New York City for Spiderman to fly around in. So many places in and around Jerusalem have had claims to being actual Bible locations, because there is a fortune to made from religious pilgrims today, just as in the Middle Ages. If every splinter of wood on every Christian Cathedral altar really was from the "True Cross," then the cross would have been taller than a redwood. ..

@@bruceheckerman7343 you are correct. Everything was filmed in Israel. This is before Zionism has taken over completely had to get special permission to film it. If it was filmed today, they would not be able to film it in Israel. They want all churches to be destroyed eventually. But, Ted Neely and Carl Anderson and the rest were perfect. Sadly, Carl Anderson is in has dead for a long time. Rest in power Carl.

A lot of Deep Purple fans will tell you that Ian Gillian did it better, but let's face it, the role was made for Neeley. Period.

@@russellmillett5642 Doesn't make me weep, but I'll be damned if I don't get emotional chills every time I watch the movie and this scene hits the screen.

I hated the lp with Ian Gillian , but I do enjoy Deep Purple. I just think that after Ted being the understudy for so long, his voice was made for this rock opera… by the way, I l live here in Italy, and Ted was here for 3 tours and he and his family met with the Pope.

Best version. Set in Israel. The acting was better. Not biblical but amazing still.

This version is the most genuine for sure Just a bunch of hippies out in the desert looking for answers. I feel like nowadays we're too afraid to talk about religion, whether from a religious pov or not. The modern adaptations all focus on the rock star aspect without commenting on the questions the play is actually asking.

Guess I'm not afraid but I've always been different.

The whole thing is pure talent . I went to the Broadway play with Ted and Carl (may he RIP) and Irene Cara played Mary. I have the live in concert in NYC as well . I can do Carl (Judas) to a tea. The talent is so phenomenal. And I’m an atheist. I’ve often asked due to this song . If he was pretty much begging God not to let him die saying it’s what God wants. not him he’s sad and why it should be him etc . Why did God not respond . ?? And let him die . I ask that on FB to my Christian friends, I have not gotten one answer to my question as I try to learn. BTW . Being an atheist I don’t hate anyones God and I do respect their faiths . I just don’t believe . I believe there was a Jesus and was crucified, but I don’t believe he’s the son of God in my mind Joseph, whoever Mary’s man was is the father of Jesus. And he was a great man. The only thing I really know is what I’ve learned in this production. Can anyone answer me as to why god didn’t respond to Jesus here when he said I don’t want to die . But you want me to and he’s singing /talking to god . ? Thanks . Please help me understand. ✌️
@jozhua511 ай бұрын
(the short answer) That was the plan. Jesus was crucified from the foundation of the earth (God is outside of time). It manifested there on the cross for us to see. Asking the Father if that could pass from him was his humanity, knowing what was coming. The Father did answer by saying it had to come to pass. This was needed to save us all and Jesus knew it, His divine nature. Thus the compliance.
