I was a Flight Engineer on the KC-10. Flew this exact aircraft during my time. That # 2 engine was my responsibility to start in chalks or while taxing for takeoff at the direction of the aircraft commander.

You've gotta love a tail burner 😍 It's quite sad that they're slowly disappearing. Not that they were ever common but rarity is one of their features. That and there was always something almost Gerry Anderson about them 😢❤

It's like something out of a movie! What a monster of an aircraft. I can hear Christopher Lee in my head doing a narrative over this clip instead of Nikos 😆. I have the Jaws theme in my head too! What an incredibly atmospheric video of a fantastic aircraft. It's superb. ❤

When I was at Beale AFB, Ca in 1985, these KC-10s were showing up and taking over some of the flying missions that the KC-135Q models were doing. Now, I guess it's there time to be retired as well. What a shame.

I remember when the KC-10's were first introduced into service. Many east-coast assigned aircraft would travel to Hunter AAF where I worked for crew training. Their callsigns were always Shamu and we had an older southern gentleman who worked in the tower with me who struggled greatly annunciating their callsigns. Whereas most normal people correctly called them Shamu, he would always refer to them as Shumer, providing many of us with hours of entertainment. When he was working local, most of the pilots of these great aircraft recognized his voice immediately and would call themselves Shumer providing further assurance that our shifts would be full of fun for the day. Yeah, gonna miss those old beasts.

We didn't have the 10s when I was in the USAF, only the KC-135s. But I ultimately worked for United Airlines at the SFO Maintenance Center and worked on the DC-10s. Really loved those old birds.

That was amazing, that clearly need all the runway and need the crew member to open the door and look down to make sure the pilot got as far over to the left without putting the wheels on the grass. Love the giggle at SEEYAH….. put a smile on my face too🫡

In 1988 (?) I was an ACM on a KBAD KC-10 that tried to make that turn onto the over-run and dropped the right truck into the dirt. Can you say STUCK. The trip was not fun after that. The KC-10 is still one hell of a system and will be missed. Why didn't Boeing use the KC-10 refueling suite on the KC-46?

Only 19? Left in service now in the USAF. One of the few I remember when I was young. A real icon of last few decades. Massive too. I agree that sound a thing of note. Gonna be missed. Great shot as she taxi's. Sorry to see her go. Good-bye. Really felt we were watching her final hurrah! Here in the UK.. KC10.
