My mom and dad would go see Waylon when ever he was playing locally. In his last performance he already had a leg amputated and was in sad shape, but his voice and stage persence was as good as ever. My dad said it was one of his best shows he'd ever seen. Rest in peace Pop and Waylon. We all miss you.

I wish that i could have been around when he was big time and doing shows every time that i get on here and listen to country music it always comes to him or the man that is carrying the true country tradition on Jamey Johnson they both really knew what it is like to be just a poor man from the south i just wish that they could have been together it would have been absolutely the best they would have been untouchable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend Larry Yoho turned me on to 'White Mansions" in 1982. He died in his 40's and I finally got the chance to stand by his grave on a mountain top in Moundsville W.Va, Overlooking the Ohio River and sing Cat Stevens "father and son" as I promised to do when we were in our early 20's. The copy I opened and played faired pretty well too but the seams are splitting. But who knows, I may have the only brand new sealed copy of this LP left in existance! For whatever reason this album didnt do so well and I cant understand that because its a good one

@@davetaylor9495 I have horses too, and I don't see them as dumb. My wife and I treat them like pets. They are spoiled rotten! But, compared to people, they are pretty dumb. Not in a slanderous way. Horses amaze you with some of the the things they figure out, and how they are pure therapy when your'e hurting. But man how they can manage to get into some messes that only a horse could do!

This song was part of a "Civil War"Opera called "White Mansions". It was not done as a commercial album. It came with a booklet of civil war pics that had never been published. There were 4 main characters all "played" by Jessie, Waylon and Cash and Dillon from Ozark Mountain Daredevils. They had a great deal of guitar work from some dude named Clapton. It was not pro North or South. It was "point of view" depending on which character was singing. It was did show that most southern troops were not motivated by slavery because owning a slave was about like owning your own airplane now. The poor whites were not fighting for slavery they were fighting for states rights. Of course the rich WERE financing it for slavery. This particularly song is not political at all. It is simply saying war is stupid and more to the point, Making Love, not war is a whole lot more sensible. If you have never heard "White Trash" or "Southern boys" (the former telling you why poor southern whites fought and the latter how jubilant they were with their early successes).
