True .I've said and teach the same ,, I I came up in comedy circles but got into theater and music then became Eddie Murphy's Stunt double for 22 years ,,I had to literally copy his mannerisms and style purposely ,, however , when I had an audition for my own part such as one I had on Lankershim Blvd for a movie ,, the auditions were held at a theatre where all the men auditioning got to actually sit in the audience and watch or see the other guys audition of the competitive part ,,, well, I signed my name last in the list to be called up , so I could give myself more time to be off script , instead of doing the typical cold reading with the script in your hand,,, I also refused to sit in the theater while I waited for my time to come up ,but I stood outside on Lankershim Blvd , because I didn't want to " see or hear " how the other actors did their part ( I didn't want anything of their in my head ) ,,, it's true that you don't have to intentionally steal , however , if your mind see something that you are impressed with ( as Kobe play so much like Jordan from watching so much that he stuck his tongue out too , etc )..you subconsciously pickup on things you may like ,,, end of story : I got the part because they said I was different and natural ,,,,

@@vcvirjuan At first I was like why would this guy type all of this and just leave us with a cliffhanger. I clicked on your profile and man I was blown away. Thanks for putting respect on my name but I unequivocally say it definitely wasn't Teddy. I was running comedy rooms in the DMV in the early 90s, they would have very rarely worked the same rooms at the same time. I personally would call out comedians for stealing jokes from other comics.

Teddy Carpenter is too talented to need to steal another person's joke. Besides, he gives credit where it is due, as he acknowledged in his Def Comedy Jam bit when he invited the dancer Leslie Segar ("Big Lez") to gesticulate his dialogue. Then, he used a joke from 1933 as said "I did not write it, but I perfected the mutha--" Brilliant comedian. One of Def Comedy Jam's best performances, ever.
