Up until 2010 I didn't actually own a VCR of my own, so my mother bought me one, yes, my mother bought me a VCR in 2010 specifically so I could play my Teddy Ruxpin video tape with the TalkBox. I live in Australia, and we use the PAL video standard, so I specifically needed a multi system VCR that can play both PAL and NTSC cassettes because my Teddy Ruxpin tape is an NTSC tape from the US.

The animation coding for Teddy is encoded within the video signal itself. On the far right of the screen, there is an analog variable density track, similar to the variable density sound track on older b&w film prints. This track is normally cutoff by a TV and requires a specific video size format in order to actually see it.

I have the TV pack for my Yes Teddy Ruxpin, I got it in 2010. My best mate and I used to watch The Treasure Of Grundo tape over and over again, with Teddy connected and we would watch the show and listen to Teddy's narration. I actually used a 9 volt AC adaptor for my TV pack because I just couldn't be bothered using batteries in the video box thing. Sadly, I think my TV pack has failed, last time I used it in around 2013 or so, the audio that came from Teddy's speaker was very quiet, almost completely inaudible, so I think there's something wrong with the TV video pack talk box. The lights on the front come on, but as I say, the audio is very quiet. I have to say that on my Yes Teddy Ruxpin, the audio is very loud on high volume, very loud and shrill, so I generally keep the volume on low. Overally I think Yes did a great job with this TV Video pack as a whole, it was well done, it's just too bad that my Talk Box appears to be broken. Are you going to do anymore documentary style videos like this? I love this presentation style you've adopted here. If you read the information label on the talk box battery door, you'll see references to these specially encoded episodes of the show being aired on broadcast TV or cable TV, I don't know if this ever actually happened or not. What I'd be curious to know is how well would this work if you're watching an episode of Teddy Ruxpin and you have poor television reception.

I never used batteries in my talk box because I could never get the compartment open, so I always used my talk box with an AC Adaptor, and that worked just fine.
@mseven13614 жыл бұрын
They should have made it so both audio channels went in to the box and Teddy Ruxpin's voice was on the left audio channel and the right addio channel is doubled to the TV's left and right audio channels. This way Teddy Ruxpin's voice can come from Teddy ruxpin and the TV has the audio from the cartoon.
@Lachlant19844 жыл бұрын
Did you somehow manage to get the sound from the actually TV show coming through Teddy Ruxpin? Due to the setup I have, I would get the TV show sound coming through the left speaker of my TV, and Teddy Ruxpin's additional commentary coming through Teddy Ruxpin's internal speaker. I had to run another audio cable from the left audio output socket on my VCR to the left audio input socket on my TV set, failure to do this would mean that I would only hear Teddy Ruxpin's commentary and not the audio from the TV show itself. Maybe your VCR works differently to mine, I don't know.

As I say, when I used my TV Video Pack, I would get the regular soundtrack coming through my TV speakers, so I had to use a cable going from the left audio output of the VCR to the left audio input on the TV, failure to do this would result in me only hearing Teddy's commentary and no other sounds. Does your VCR have a stereo/mono sound output setting? In my case, I found that if my talk box was switched off, all audio signals passed straight through to the TV as they should, so if I wanted to play a different videotape, or more likely, play on my Nintendo 64 or Nintendo Wii, I would get full stereo sound from my games. I actually did try playing a Nintendo 64 game, and, with Teddy Ruxpin connected to the talk box, which was still connected to the TV/VCR but switched off, I then pressed the play button on Teddy Ruxpin, and I heard sound from my games coming from Teddy Ruxpin's speaker. I've also tried doing other things like connecting my portable CD player to the Teddy Cable Port on the back of Teddy Ruxpin, and effectively using Teddy Ruxpin as a speaker for my CD player. If you look on my KZbin channel for a video called Teddy Ruxpin True Tears Of Joy, you'll see this in action.

something very interesting I noticed, when teddy says, "stop the tape!" so he can tell you about newton gimmick, did you actually have to stop the tape or did the makers put a stillshot on the vhs to look like it stopped at the right time?
@GrundoGazette4 жыл бұрын
I did not have to stop the tape. They simply created a still shot at that point, which continues for the duration of Teddy's spoken lines. Then the episode resumes as normal.

@@GrundoGazette that is extremely cool! though, without teddy, it would be weird at that scene with sudden silence! and, one of your 1985 wow teddies in your answer box video has a weird mettalicy robotic sound to him, do you know what's causing it?
@GrundoGazette4 жыл бұрын
@@retrotoylover Yes, unfortunately even if Teddy isn't connected, the video still freezes and you'll still hear everything Teddy's commentary. As for my Teddy, his cassette deck is set to play a little too fast, which might be what you're hearing.

@@GrundoGazette some other cassette players sound like that, usually cheaply built modern ones, like one of mine. one of mine has that same monotone growl, just not that much compared to your teddy ruxpin. that cassette player I have is just cheaply built, and it also has an unstable playback speed even with fresh batteries. it has a built in radio which is the only thing that sounds good! no rewind button though! how come some cassette players don't have a rewind, and only fastforward, stop and play?

I find the volume on my Yes Teddy Ruxpin to be loud, very loud, it hurts my ears on high volume, and even on low volume it's still a bit louder than perhaps I would like it to be. When my talk box was working and when I had it set up correctly, I found that all the sounds and music and voices from the TV show came out of the left speaker on my TV set and subsequently my stereo system as my stereo system is connected to my TV, and then Teddy Ruxpin's additional commentary came from Teddy Ruxpin himself, whereas I see in your video, all sounds appeared to be coming from Teddy Ruxpin. You say that Come Dream With Me Tonight was available on VHS cassette in this format, I'm just wondering how that would work with Teddy Ruxpin providing additional commentary, I just don't see how that would work unless of course Teddy Ruxpin sings along with the videotape.
