Some great choices here Teddy. I do love the Longines Master Calendar Chronograph, the 40mm wears so much smaller on the wrist than the measurements would indicate. It does take a little time to get your head round all the hands but once done is surprisingly easy to read. Incredible what you get for the money. I also love the Oris rectangle.

The Longines Master Calendar Chrono comes in 40 and 42mm. Regarding the calendar function, you still have to manually change the day and date on month's that end on the 30th. The moment you restrict yourself with budget* to build a collection* you do not really understand what you yourself is looking for. There is no rush, find a watch you like and buy it. 20 years since I bought my first Seiko (the one for fifa 2002), it is still in my collection today with my Rolex, Tudor, JLC, Cartier, IWC, Casio in no specific order. Casio was actually the first watch I owned as a kid. I still have the two baby G but they were gifts, I did not spend my own money to buy.
@Lllkkkll3 ай бұрын
True on this. The first luxury watch I bought was a rolex oyster perpetual and sold all my other fashion watches (Mk and kenneth cole 😅) one thing I didn’t sell was the one handed down to me by my husband which is a fossil chronograph… then proceeded to buying smart watches (apple- for health & wellness, garmin- for the advance running metrics for my running), then bought a casio duro, a quartz divers watch, which was on sale. I was searching for the perfect dive watch, when I saw the Duro online, and for the price, I just can’t let it pass… it is such a great deal for the price… a true diver’s watch, and one that you’re not afraid to actually use when diving, just in case it got lost or something in the sea! 😂 I’m more of a watches’ functionality person, because I know that I’ll never ever wear a diver’s watch in an office set up or anything, hence I chose to be practical about it. 😅

The Longines isn't an annual calendar. It doesn't correct for short months; you have to set the date at the end of every months with less than 31 days. It's also odd to compare it to a Patek, which, aside from being a Patek, is a perpetual calendar, which by itself puts it in an entirely different price point.
@CitizenRare2 жыл бұрын
Was going to say the same thing, had to do a double take that I wasn’t misunderstanding. I was like wait I thought the Master Collection Chrono just had a complete calendar, not an annual. I know that the Master Collection does have an annual calendar reference, but not this exact chronograph calendar watch.
@AAllinsonNN2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no… for the price difference can you really complain about a calendar reset once per month? A perpetual calendar is nothing more than a bit more math in development, but nothing to be blown away by. I understand your qualms but I believe it to be a fair comparison. Can you think of other quality calendar watches between each? Not a dig btw I’m curious bc I can’t think of anything. I’m also a novice about this stuff though
@WeibenWang2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much all of that is a non sequitur. What qualms? It was just a question of definition. That Longines is not an annual calendar; it doesn't do what an annual calendar does. An annual calendar costs thousands more than a standard calendar, a perpetual calendar costs multiples of an annual calendar, and a Patek, just by being Patek, costs an order of magnitude more than Longines, so yeah, it's $150k. He mixed several categories to make an outlandish comparison. The comparison is odd, not to say weird. What's "fair" about it?

Does the one-watch persona basically require at least 100m of water resistance? I dailied a 3 ATM watch on a leather strap for over a year and didn’t wear any other watch during that time (hadn’t gotten into the habit of rotating through my watches at that time).
@DrewPflaumer2 жыл бұрын
I think it probably depends on your lifestyle, to be honest. It's 100% reasonable to wear something splash resistant only if that fits your life. These days (at least in the summer) I tend to bike straight to the beach/lake from my office so... Personally I like the WR. When I lived in the mountains and went hiking after school instead, that wasn't a real concern.

Now that I am into watches, I remember a colleague of mine on my first job in the metro as he is fund of watches and would often show us his vintage watches… 😅 He’d just stop at our cubicles and just talk about what vintage watch he was wearing. At that time though I am still not into watches, but I’d always be fascinated to hear out his stories and look at the watches. 😅 The men that I’ve worked with on my first job were fond of watches and that’s what they’d often talk about and I always found it interesting to listen to. 😅 That’s also the time I saw a real rolex kermit submariner worn by someone. My former boss introduced me at one of the gatherings and I noticed it the moment he offered a hand shake, because we all know that Rolex have a lot of replicas out there. 😅 when it is one of the big bosses, you’ll know that it’s the real thing… and he’s also one of the nicest and most humble and intelligent person I’ve met. 😅 I’ve also seen Rolex submariners in the past worn by my husband’s relatives, but the Rolex kermit is just a rare find, and seldom do you see an individual wearing one. 😅 The coveted pieces are just something. 😄

Not convinced by the “formal collector” selection. 1) The King Seiko is hardly a dress watch, especially for those who actually are into dress watches (such as that kind of persona). 2) The Oris is a casual watch at best. The size and shape make it so. I like it, but it’s not a dress watch. For not a lot more you get a small Tank Must, which would actually be a dress watch. 3) The FC, like many other contemporary watches, has a design inspired by that of a dress watch but with 42mm of diameter and 11,5mm of thickness it can’t be considered a dress watch. You literally can’t wear it with formal attire.
