I have had this exact watch for 3 years and I am positively surprised! This got more wrist time than my omega PL or Rolex explorer over the years! It is also surprising how little attention this gets among enthusiasts. In my opinion this is perfect GMT for smaller wrist.

I have had this watch for two years and I LOVE it, BUT: the clasp is not good. It broke once, they repaired it on warranty, but the replacement clasp is not that great either. Also, once, the watch lost 3 hours, and I still have no idea why. I'm considering getting the clasp replaced again. That was a lot of complaining, but this is still my favorite watch, the most accurate watch I own, and a great conversation starter!

Came so close to buying the green dialled 257. Love the colour. Great design. But the date aperture jumped out at me. Seeing the cross section underneath seemed like an incredible oversight for GS. It needed a frame to hide the contrast.

This is so close to the perfect GS GMT. Why they chose to just sink the date at 4 is beyond me. Just a simple stepdown would've made a huge difference. Even better would've been to frame it at 3 like so many of their others. SO close GS!

@2:47 if it is plus or minus 15 seconds a month, that is equivalent to plus or minus .5 seconds a day. However, Grand Seiko in the specs, and reviewers always repeat these contradictory numbers. Can anyone explain this to me?
@stuartpoffley-ifill3080 Жыл бұрын
I have this watch in green and thought the same till I spoke to the people at the AD. They said people want to know the daily accuracy so GS state to the nearest second. However in reality it's much more accurate. My one gains around 5 seconds a month. I guess it's easier to say a second a day than 0.166 of a second.
@SinnerAndSaint Жыл бұрын
And it's simply Japanese understatement. It's part of their culture. I do own three Grand Seikos, each of them with their own movement type. And I can agree that they're running a lot more precise than stated by GS themselves.
@phildo864 Жыл бұрын
@@stuartpoffley-ifill3080 that was my first guess. However, you will notice on Grand Seiko’s more accurate 9RA5 spring drive, they quote the accuracy at .5 seconds per day or 10 seconds a month when it should be about .3 seconds. So that hypothesis makes sense for the 9RA5. And it shows they are willing to quote half a second. Mine gains around 9 seconds a month.
@phildo864 Жыл бұрын
@@SinnerAndSaint I considered that rationale, however, if they were truly understating, wouldn’t they say ‘plus or minus 30 seconds a month’? why would they say plus or minus 15 seconds a month and plus or minus 1 second a day. Those figures don’t add up. 1 second a day would be understating it but 15 seconds a month is accurately stating it.
@MrSpinkser11 күн бұрын
You are assumimg that monthly is just daily times 30, but that is not how it works. For having plus 1 every day in a month the watch would have to be moved exactly the same way every day, which is impossible (or at least ultra unlikely). In reality it will be a random value between plus/minus 1 on any day,

@Bredes1 Жыл бұрын
@@Anonymouslyme1people nowadays thinks they sound knowledgable when they comment on thickness and lugtolug because its trendy , without trying the watches on in person. I don't understand the enthousiasm around Spring Drive. It's nothing more than a quartz regulated movement with some unecessarily complicated mechanics around it. Try to get a spring drive watch serviced 20 years from now when the regulating IC is broken and is not available anymore. The only advantage that it has over a normal quartz watch is that there is no battery in it. but in the end, it's a quartz watch after all.
@SinnerAndSaint Жыл бұрын
Wrong approach. It is a completely mechanical watch with a quartz regulated escapement. All the other mechanics are the same as on a mechanical watch including the high level finishing on all of their movements. Get more used to the technology and watches before jumping on the quartz hate train...
@peterdegelaen Жыл бұрын
@@SinnerAndSaint Who said I hated quartz watches? I do have a quartz watch myself. But the regulating organ in this spring drive thing is a quartz oscillator so basically, this is a quartz watch and it is an insult to purely mechanical watches to even call it a mechanical watch. A non-spring drive quartz watch with an analog display with hands also has some mechanical stuff in it. It does not make it a mechanical watch.

Well Finished ... NOT! For the price, I think most of your viewers would come to expect a better experience. Bought a brand new Lake Suwa Ref 021 with the Spring Drive in Japan after hearing how great GS was. It's supposed to have a 5 day power reserve. I got the watch for a family member as a gift thinking this would truly be a watch he could enjoy for years to come. Never wore or sized the watch. Absolutely brand new from authorized Grand Seiko dealer in Japan. I just opened it up and wound the power reserve to near full and hoped to see it last for up to 5 days. Two days later I go back to see the watch that's in the box and it's stopped running! Now this can't be normal right? Since I don't live in Japan I couldn't go back to the selling dealer. So I went to my local GS dealer in my country and he said this is not normal. He said let us bring it to our Grand Seiko watch repair center to see what they say. 4 days later they tell me oh this is something ONLY Japan can repair and because this model is so new we are not equipped to repair this! I said so I paid about for a new watch and it has to go back to Japan for about a month or more to get repaired? I requested that Grand Seiko simply replace the unit with a new unit and he said they could not do that. I find this practice to be unethical, poor business sense, and a quick way to lose brand loyalty, of which they have not even yet established yet. SO basically I have to pay in full, never get any use from the purchase, and it has to go to Japan for repairs for God knows how long. Not sure Grand Seiko Marketing or Director of Sales would find this remedy to be fair. Anyways, that's my experience with GS so far and no I won't recommend this brand to anyone. Pretty much at my wits end, if you have any suggestions or recommendations please send them my way. Thank you for your informative video.
