You are missing a lot of details in the context of this song so I'm gonna try my best to explain them. She was married to Gerard Piqué, a famous footballer, and he cheated on her apparently with a young girl called "Clara Chía" (and allegedly with other girls) so the first reference would be when she says "yo solo hago música perdona que te sal-pique" - " I only make music sorry if it splashes you", since it ends with "Piqué", his exs name, it's clear who she's talking about. Then, she says "she has the name of a good person" because "Clara" (in English it's Claire) sounds like the name of somebody who is innocent and good, so then she says "Clara-mente no es como suena" which means "Clairly (or Claire-ly) is not as it sounds", again naming indirectly his new girlfriend called Clara. Also she says I'm better than two 22 year olds cos his new girlfriend is 22. She also says you left me with my mother in law as a neighbor bc when they were together he built a house next door for his mother. I think that's most of it, the rest you can get from the subtitles. about the cat thing, it's a way to call a boyfriend here in south America, kind of slang, so she says she should have dumped him earlier. Also, she's moving to Miami from Barcelona and leaving the house where her then-husband used to sneak the other woman when she was out, so that's why Shakira tells him now he's free to bring the girl in.

Something that is also very important to understand the "Clara-mente" references, is this: She says Clara has the name of someone who must be a good person, because Clara's translation and context is not only "clear", it is also luminous and in the context of a name it can also mean "light bringer" or someone who "brightens up the place". So she is not only calling her by name, she is taking a very direct swing at her character by saying it CLEARLY (Claramente) is not as it seems. So basically she said all this in just one sentence that has at least three different meanings at the same time.

I usually watch your SKZ reactions, but I clicked so fast when I got the notification for this. I'm a native Spanish speaker from LATAM so I can understand what she's singing about and sadly there a few things that get lost in translation here, but it's okay. I think someone already explained to you the context of this song, so I won't get into that. Shakira is a great singer, but I do prefer her music from the 90s, probably because I grew up with those songs. BUT! I'm so glad that you keep listening to Bizarrap sessions. They are so great, and I think you will like them even if you don't speak or understand Spanish. My personal favorite has to be Session #51, with Villano Antillano, and I think you will enjoy Session #39.

Sooooooo many references in this song all of them just went over your head. It’s a lot of word play and references to her relationship with Pique. Pique won a World Cup at the start of their relationship so when she says you “call yourself as a champion but you gave me your worst”. Another one is when she says “Sal- Pique” she is indirectly but directly calling him but it’s also like sal can be taken as either salt to his wounds or get out salpique together is that sorry my music is splashing you. Now when she mentions Pique’s new girl her name is Clara so when she sings “tiene nombre de persona buena” it’s referring to how Clara is generally seen as a sweet person name a long with a reference to the Catholic saint of Clara so when she follows with “Clara-mente no es como suenan” it’s her saying she doesn’t live up to her name. Finally when she sings “yo valgo por 2 de 22” there was a lot to unpack there! Shakira is 44 when this all happened and Clara was 22 this mention happens at the time mark of 2:22 and while singing this line she does Pique’s signature goal sign he did to dedicate to Shakira, it also stands for the birthday they shared in February and also for their two sons.

Listen, the whole point of the song is in the lyrics even tough the music and the melody are so good and catchy. The lyrics is really a good description of the ex and the girlfriend he has now, she created these lines where she divides Spanish words and she can use Pique's last name and girlfriend's name (Clara) so people has no doubts who are Shakira referring to. She says "clearly" in Spanish is Clara-mente Being the mistress name Clara. When Shakira says "sorry my music splashes you" in Spanish the verb is "sal-Pique" being that the last name of her ex. I have never listened a song that is so DIRECT and straight to the point of the issues in the relationship but she tells it like it is. She includes lines like these " you got me your mom as a neighbor, the press at the door and left me handling the treasury debt (meaning the equivalent to IRS in Spain with a 3 million dollars suit) but " women now we don't cry we just make money). She tells Pique he changed a Rolex (Shakira) por a Casio (the girlfriend) ad later "you changed a Ferrari for a Twingo (very small and cheap car)" Yes, it's a revenge song. She took a hard time for her and used to make this incredible song. Good for Shakira.
