It's a funny intro before the interview! Things went haywire in the house before Stephan arrived....had a plumbing situation...Stephan refers to the plumber as my roommate!
Stephan reveals some if his favorite songs from 2021!
It's a rainy day in LA this day and the guys talk about good manners and Stryker asks Stephan about his love for LA (he's a bay area guy)
The guys talk about the new album called Our Bande Apart and the process of how it was recorded here in Los Angeles.
Stephan and Stryker discuss the Third Eye Blind documentary which is available on youtube called "How We Hold Each Other Right Now".
Stephan tells Stryker that his mindset has changed, he doesn't care about metrics, streams, radio play or Grammy's and as a result, he's made much more music!
Stephan also shared that he had another full album ready just as the pandemic hit, but the songs didn't feel right to release which is what lead lead them to the very honest and imperfect album.. Our Bande Apart. Stephan explains what an imperfect album means.
Stephan tells a beautiful story about knitting himself back together from that traumatized 6 year old boy that he was.
Stephan brings up the saying....Comparison is the enemy of joy.
The guys also discuss tension in the recording studio. Stephan tells Stryker that yes, absolutely, tension is important in the process.
Stephan recounts a great story about producing Vanessa Carlton while Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were working in a different studio, Stephan walked right in and asked to borrow them for a song!
Stephan mentions to Stryker that Third Eye Blind is an indie rock band who are saddled with a lot of hits, he also tells Stryker about his love for Rancid and The Interruptors. It was just a few years back that they all met at a show....The KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas in Los Angeles.
Stephan talks to Stryker about his love of playing drums at a very young age and being a professional musician by the time he was 17.
Stryker learns that Stephan went to Cal Berkeley for college and actually had a great time!
The guys then chat about getting a record deal and why in the 90's, it was SO important to have a deal, that entire experience led to the writing and recording of the song "Graduate".
Stephan reveals that after the chat he's going to rehearsal and the guys are already making a new Third Eye Blind album, Stephan is not even close to slowing down and living off previous success. Make sure to find the guys on the road, 2022 is going to be another huge year for the band!
It was a super fun time hanging with Stephan, he's a very very talented guy, sit back relax, and enjoy another episode of Tuna on Toast with Stryker

Stephan's use of the word "my" is very telling--my album, my keyboard player, etc. It's why he's either sued or fired every band mate or will eventually. RIP 3eb

Yeah, he single-handedly ruined a lineup that had unreal promise. Burned all bridges with those closest to him. At least we got a few albums of that goodness. Not to say the newer stuff is bad or anything. Fwiw, and take it with a grain of salt, but I’ve met him a few times and he’s really just…a prickly dude. He kinda sucks. But he is who he is and I can’t fault him. Anyway, you hit the nail on the head.

Yes, Yes, Yes "Losing on whole year" best song of the album, period. This track has been my anthem since my late teenage years through the whole twenties. I can literally visualize myself being this clueless 19 years old guy who can't stop playing in call of duty BLACK OPS (LOL). Now ,I am in my late twenties approaching 29 singing this tune on the top of my lungs with my future wife almost every night. Stephan you are getting age like a fine wine. Great podcast. Interview conducted very profesionally. Love 3EB. I have to admit it as well that "Out of the Vein" is the most underrated album of all time. Best, from Poland. Łukasz

@@heatherthomas9497 Agree! I I think this should be the album title as Jenkins wanted to be. A very personal ballad for Charlize Theron! "I want to be your diamond ring. The one I never gave you and promise that it brings". There are bunch of old videos on YT from August 2003, where Stephan says "this album is about my ex-ex grilfriend". :)

Great interview. I know the discussion focused more on the latest album but SCREAMER is - in my opinion- an underrated release by the band. BLUE is my favorite 3EB album but SCREAMER not getting enough love is a travesty. There are so many great tracks, it's a shame that didn't get more love from the public. Keep doing what you're doing Stephan.

I wish we knew what possibly interpersonal issues existed in the first place between SJ and KC, and then SJ and TF…then SJ & AS (am I missing any?). If they were cool with each other interpersonally, we’d still see the original lineup(s). I guess we’ll never know the shit. Unless I don’t know something that’s been put out there from at least one side of the stories.

Stephan, there was no valid reason for you to feel insecure because you brought such a unique sound of talent of lyrics, melody, and rhythm; the only other musician that can capture people's pain yet also uplift them with happy music is Mark Oliver Everett who was also one of a kind. Plus, you were hot to boot. Nobody compares.

This idea that Stephan doesn’t lament the past, ponder what he’d do differently, or have any level of nostalgia is complete bs, as is his pedantic response bloviating about purpose. Both things can exist - and do - with everyone. I can’t stand him. But I love 3eb’s music, for which he’s obviously been the driving force. It’s a delicate balance. Very much appreciated this interview though.
