The greatest lecturer I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Every single lecture of his is memorable.

Here in the US I think one of the biggest problems is that our education from k-12 is more rote than learning. If we could focus more on problem solving and critical thinking around the world we'll see an explosion of innovation and really great ideas.

This talk has the additional merit of pointing in several directions where strong benefits can emerge form using engineering skills. Shoud we also think of better preparing engineering students, specifically for these more promising scenarios?

Jony Ive did NOT design the Newton. He wasn't even at Apple at the time the project was instituted and the Message Pad 100 was released less than a year after he began working with Apple on the Message Pad 110.

Great job Tim. I do wonder about the role of government and non-government bodies that represent engineering in the UK. One 'elephant-in-the-room' might be the perception that university entry requirements are relatively higher and starting salaries relatively lower when compared to other disciplines?

Have you seen engineer's starting salaries?!

Engineering qualification is hard to mate with entrepreneurial mindset. KZbin is full of proposals by artisans &tinkers or fund raising schemers that can't deliver their promises 'cause there is no even a trace of an engineer's insight or reality check in those "revolutionary ideas". On other hand, wasting years on self-promotion, an engineer loses confidence &qualification.
