In response to the statements that this is "just a performance": allowing others to witness the nakedness of the soul that is worship, or prayer, or meditation may appear to be 'performance.' It is much more. It is invitation; it is instruction; it is a door, opening for others; it is love; it is divine love. Whether or not one agrees with the beliefs and doctrines of those who are so open, the beauty of another's spirituality should be respected. I know little to nothing of Sufi beliefs; I know what it is to worship publicly. May the day come soon when how we worship, when whom or what we worship, is far less important than the simple fact that we do worship, and in that commonality, may we find peace for humankind.

Yes precisely, there are many kinds of this sort of mystical practice, it’s like a sensory overload or deprivation depending on how you want to look at it, designed to encourage a mystical experience, or feeling the cosmic oneness all around us that we call God, or Allah, or Brahman. The human body is an incredible thing and through certain practices our senses become aware to everything they were previously blind to, it’s not that we find god in these moments it’s that we forget how to see god with our normal senses.

Doesn't work that way. The Companions would judge people if somebody did not show signs of faith and belief in Islam they'd make be called kafirs. Likewise Umar (ra) said "we judge by what's apparent and leaves what is inner to Allah." meaning that when one shows such blatant disbelief and innovation we can judge however only Allah can guide them and forgive them. Sufism does not have a single root to the message of Islam; "Every innovation leads to failure and it leads to the fire" was what Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said about the above twirling. Numerous Sufi groups have fabricated works to make out that what they do is correct but it is far, far away from that. Meaning Ora and Ihab ARE kafirs

@@truesight91 in other religion maybe but not in islam. The prophet was very clear and strict about innovation in islam. You think Allah doesn't know how his creation can get near him? Then he wouldn't have told us to pray 5 times in the quran. Dancing and music are haram/prohibited in islam and they are doing exactly that. Listening to some trance music and whirling around may feel surreal and spiritual but so does taking drugs. As our beloved prophet(pbuh) said "a person is nearest to Allah when he's at prostration in salah" so why search for other options when theres already a way which is far greater than any medication? The shaytan is playing with their minds and leading them away from Allah and these people don't even realise it. If you are not a muslim, these whole dance thing may look appealing to you but just so you know this has nothing to do with islam. We muslims don't compromise about anything islam because Allah says in quran that He has perfected islam for us, so we mustn't add of throw away anything for whatever reason.

From the tiniest unseen atom which is revolving, the sun revolving, the moon revolving, the earth revolving, all the planets revolving, blackholes revolving, all the galaxies revolving, which is certainly a form of non stop worship towards their creator, think abount it and look at us the humans revolving around the holy Ka'aba at Makkah. Is this the reason why Sufi's whirl out of love towards their creator ?

To negative remarks for and against Sufism. It is a name without defining it as a name but once again we are doing just that. Sufism was not meant to be labeled as it means not associate (shirk) anything with Allah Swt. Sufism and orthodox come together to balance from being introvert to extrovert. Every religion has inner development and outer. Until one reads and gets on the path one should not question ones faith and religion. Who is a Muslim who is non is simply aspect of fix and non. Sufis do not abandon the Quran or Sunnah, Prayers, giving and being active in their community. It is simply a method to achieved higher concentration of being a true Being with the command of Allah Swt. I’m the process of the Sufi path some get misguided because they abandon the teachings of their Sheikh and become sheikhs themselves. One should not rely only on Sufi literature as they may misinterpret as most see only what they want to see in any literature. The Quran is the word of Allah Swt and it should not be minimized but rather glorified as the 99 names of Allah Swt does. Ghazalli, ibn Arabi both are prescribed reads even though they are conflicting to the soul till the soul is balanced by it. For 39 years I prayed mechanically as do animals according to their needs. If one follows they path it comes back in full circle. I first encourage you to have strong foundation in Islam before you start on the path of Sufism. The dance before us simply to achieve a heightened state of consciousness, it is very similar to smoking pot or 5 meO DMT. There is no need to destroy your body with substance or be addicted to opium of any sort there are processes to achieve it with your own body as it’s already in you, all that is needed is finding it in your self: for that there are 150 different orders of Sufism, hence one should not limit one way to have true and profound abilities to connect on higher levels. What they will discover is part of the beautiful journey based on their way of seeing it. Allah Swt sees all, I’m sure if your intention is to get closer to Allah Swt the All Merciful will have his mercy on you. To Allah belong the east and the West: Whithersoever ye turn, there is the presence of Allah. For Allah is all-Pervading, all-Knowing. Quran 2:115
