This is one of the wildest vocal performances ever recorded. Another reactor rightly called this "controlled chaos". The "piano" as you call it is actually a Hammond B3 / C3 organ that is full of electronic tubes and run into Leslie speaker cabinets. This particular lineup of band members is commonly called the Mark II version of Deep Purple and is responsible for most of their hit records.

"Child In Time" gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, It's that good. Ian Gillans voice is ridiculous belting them notes out and slowing down with soul. John Lord beating on the keyboards like it owes him money, Ritchie shredding on that beautiful Gibson ES-335, Paice on drums, and Glover on bass makes one hell of a band. Great reaction, your facial reaction to Ian Gillian's voice on them high notes was priceless. 👍

There was a reason why one music magazine writer called Ian Gillan the (paraphrasing here) 'Golden Throat of Rock 'n' Roll'. This is why. Ian used to be able to belt out those screams easily, night after night. Unfortunately, he's no longer able to perform this song. The toll of years has worn out his throat. Jon Lord was one of the best keyboardists in rock. His distinctive sound came from plugging that Hammond B3 organ into a Marshall amplifier stack. Ritchie Blackmore was, and still is, a fantastic guitarist and has influenced many people to learn guitar. Ian Paice (pronounced like 'Pace') is one of the best drummers in rock history (and one of my main influences as a young drummer back in the day). Roger Glover is the fantastic bassist you see here. This was the 'Mark II' version of Deep Purple, and by far the best version of the group. Glad you got the chance to hear them!

You missed the most phenomenal 2 decades the 60's and the 70's where all this music basically started. Back then there was pretty much free reign for the bands in the studio to experiment. Bands like these guys practically wrote/constructed opus's with key changes, time signature changes. They made the songs tell entire stories. These days?? Pfft nothing but rubbish on our radios. I do however HIGHLY recommend Ayreon for example. The musicians and vocalists there are mind blowing. There are many metal heavy and otherwise bands in Europe doing stuff like this which is well worth the listen.

And not all the little helpers that are available to guitar players today either. If you messed up on these instruments there was no way to hide it. @@AaliyahCapili You could be my niece and, as un "uncle", I feel a sort of pride in seeing a person of your age listening and appreciating what my father made me appreciate back in the day when I was as young as you... maybe I'm exaggerating, but, you know, you turn sentimental when you become adult... sorry for this long comment, but, even if I don't know you personally, I wish you to be peaceful and happy in your life as much as possible. "The future needs a big kiss", as U2 sing in one of their songs. I hope your future will deserve your big kiss...

I too, an old guy from Canada, with a kid about your age who has heard it all, you keep going girl, broaden your horizons, live, love, learn. My suggestion, just to take you into another zone, would be Tort Elvis doing A Whole Lotta Love, Elvis meets Led Zep in a Regge beat, and then some, good tunes, and an amazing voice, check it out :)

The song is great gig in the sky .. literally meaning heaven. It’s broke down into three parts the first is her going through death so she screams a lot . The second is when she comes to peace and excepts her death. The third is when she is welcomed into heaven . It’s a great song

Informative reaction - thank yoU! I think this piece is masterful. Even ignoring the lyrics, my soul is transported to weirdly frightening and tragic parts of the early 70s. Hammond B3 history in rock is interesting, often played through the whirling Leslie speakers, which are still made -- sounds which are imitated in many modern keyboards.

Masterpiece! Another featuring Best Scream Vocals is 'Strange Kind Of Woman'. And yet another featuring John Lord on keys is 'Lazy'. Reacting is not the main part of your job on your channel, but as a 'next generation oldie music listener' is to put the songs on a playlist and keep listening and sharing, over and over until you have kids of your own and pass it on. Thanks✌

I can only imagine how hard is must be to train your voice like you do but when KZbin offered this reaction video of yours I had to drag forth my memories of Deep Purple when I listened to them in the 70's and this song is a perfect example of why I liked this band and this lead singer. Your reaction @5:15 was one of complete surprise and astonishment as if you could not believe the raw power behind his vocalization. It was like someone being plunked down in the stands of a Top Fuel Dragway without any warning about what was about to take place. It's been decades since I listened to this song and I'm pretty sure it didn't sound this good on my 1970 Pioneer 8-Track under dash player. Anyway I sure had fun seeing your reaction. Keep training and listening to new things.

It was in 1996. I was 29 years old and Deep Purple gave a concert in the small town of Suhl in Thuringia, Germany, my home town. Deep Purple's line-up was Paice, Gillan, Lord, Morse and Glover . They played all the classics and at the end, as an encore, Child in Time. The 6,000 people in the hall were silent and just listened to the music until the chaos in the song began. Then everyone joined in, clapping and jumping. Epic. I still love listening to Deep Purple today. I'm 57 now and will always listen to them. One of the best bands in the world.

An all time performance by Ian Gillian and the entire band, and the crowd is stunned! Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore are just so good, taking turns on amazing solos. The song is relentless and legendary. I saw these Guys back in the day. Yes, they really are that good! Try Highway Star from their brilliant live album, Made in Japan. Utter Banger. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

At the end of the year we have a tradition here in the Netherlands to vote for your favorite music of all time and with all the votes they play the top 2000 on the radio in the last two weeks of the year. When I vote most of the time Child in Time end up nr. 1 in my list. Every member of the band is rock royalty.

Thank you for this reaction to one of my favourite 5 bands EVER (the others being The Beach Boys, Hawkwind, Nightwish and Band-Maid). Ian Gillan's voice was simply the best at this time , and he is still singing well over 50 years later (although he can no longer hit those top notes !). This version of Deep Purple (known as MkII) is my favourite, Ritchie Blackmore was creating new ways to play the guitar with speed and precision which is still a huge influence on modern players, Ian Paice brought amazing riffs to to the songs and his flams and rolls are second to none, Jon Lord was simply the best rock keyboard player of his age and Roger Glover was a very talented bass player but also brought amazing song writing skills and production skills to the band. Other songs to check out from this version of the band include 'Speed King', 'Lazy' and the great 'Highway Star'. You might also want to check out 'Burn' by the next version of the band with different vocalists after Gillan and Glover left the band. I love your reactions generally so keep doing what you do !

Your reactions to Ian's crazy vocal pyrotechnics were properly gobsmacked, lol! And THANK YOU so much for re-winding!! It's SO important and not that many reactors do it, so they miss crucial transitions, great drum fills, awesome lyrics, etc. Good stuff, thanks!
