Which really puts the line "when I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse...out of the corner of my eye....I turned to look but it was gone....I can not put my finger on it now...the child is grown, the dream is gone" into perspective. This isnt some homeless junkie with these thoughts, it is meant to be the inner thoughts of a successful musician. It definitely hits different with that in mind.

Yes I'm old, but I don't agree at all. Comfortable Numb belongs to my favors.- I couldn't resitent to wait till Silas perhaps react to PULSE. Take the voices: in the first part - lead by Rick with two others - but also David part are so dragging and also the guitar solo too ground not so raw, perhaps too overproduced, hard said: typical Sir Gilmour. Yes high guitars quality and thank god don't hide a guitar at the end: yes David was totally in its guitar element. But I prefere the studio version. I'm promise that I'm will discover Pulse in peace and quiet before I form an overall judgement. Silas: Comfortable Numb is so phenomenal and stands out so much because of the variety of such different good songs as Mother, Hey You, Young Lust, Run Like Hell ........ what makes a masterpiece: diversity,

Probably the most profound and moving lyrics that Pink Floyd ever wrote! Also very moving are Roger’s lyrics from ‘Echoes’ from their ‘Meddle’ album - ‘Strangers passing in the street, by chance two separate glances meet, and I am you and what I see is me’. To me that sums up the ‘empathy’ message to all mankind that perpetuates throughout a lot of Pink Floyd’s music.

Guys...yes we all know every single note and every nuance and feeling of every moment of every song but this is his channel and can react as he sees fit...realize that his mind is being blown by this masterpiece and may need a moment to process what he is hearing....as far as pausing when the good parts are coming, how does he know there’s a good part coming if he has never heard the music? I’m sure he will listen to this album thousands of times throughout the rest of his life as we have and not worry about copyright and I’m sure everyone listening and complaining has the album/CD or download and can listen to it in its entirety anytime we want.

Vera Lynn sang songs that brought hope to the troops in the UK during the second World War. One of her most iconic songs was "We'll Meet Again (some sunny day)". Here Roger asks "remember how she said that we would meet again some sunny day". He's referring to his father who never returned home from the war. Feels betrayed by the song. In "Bring the Boys Back Home" that follows, that's not an opera singer singing with the choir LOL, it's Roger Waters!! Again, this album is very much autobiographical to him, so he's really feeling some of these songs. This is a rock *opera* in its truest sense. "Don't leave the children on their own, no no... Bring the boys back home"

If you continue listening to the iconic bands of the late 60's and through the 70's you will go down a rabbit hole that there is no coming out of. Every generation grows up with their own popular music of their time, and I'm sure will attach to it for the rest of their lives, however this period saw bands experimenting with the music, sometimes very complicated, and putting a lot of thought into their lyrics. Floyd, Yes, Genesis. None of them sounded like the others yet all 3 seemed to catch onto areas of music that hadn't been explored before at all. Zeppelin & Jethro Tull. Supertramp & Styx. Alan Parsons Project & David Bowie. There were so many different sounding bands. All so extremely talented and creative. I always listen to new music. And there have been absolute gems in the past 40 or more years, but the body of work that came out during the classic era that Pink Floyd was most productive is absolutely unparalleled. Enjoy the ride kid. We're still on it!!

Comfortably Numb is a great song, you have to watch Roger Water’s live performance of that song from The Wall Revival tour from 2010-2013, the projections that they use on the wall during the solo goes along well with the song and makes the song complete.

In "Comfortably Numb" notice how that first guitar solo section sounds so overwhelmingly sad, but the second one, playing just about the same notes, sounds absolutely evil. Rather than just noting great riffs, notes or choruses of patriotic sounding music, concentrate on experiencing how Pink Floyd's music makes you FEEL. We see it in your physical reactions while it's playing. Contemplate it for a moment and then try to put those feelings into words. As an audience we get off on reliving through YOUR first experiences, OUR OWN first experiences hearing this amazing music. It's stunning just how visceral it can be! Keep on going through Pink Floyd's albums. It's a wonderful trip.

When I saw the Wall live in 1980 there was, of course, no social media and we had no idea what to expect from the show (sadly we have nowadays often lost the magic of being surprised). Anyway, when this song played and the spotlight shone on Gilmour playing the solo ON TOP OF THE WALL the entire audience had one of the great moments of their lives.

Vera Lynn's 1939 "We'll Meet Again" was an emotional sticking plaster for Gt. Britain and the separated families and troops, numbing, smothering and comforting wounds with a promise of hope. Perhaps someone was lost at sea, was travelling to other lands to fight, was moved for years to another part of the country. All hated the war; all wanted home. No-where was safe; everywhere was the front line. The years after the end of the war ('45) didn't seem much better - the country was bankrupt, food rationing got worse (till '53); the Empire had imploded. Soot and cold despair ruled all. Hope turned to bland ashes and people wondered if England had really won. There was a second major hole in the male population. Women born mid 1920's suffered cruelly as they found the men who might have been husbands were now heroes buried in some far off field (a fate for millions of women across all of Europe. See Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" for the story of one such - I met many women condemned to spinsterhood as a child; the men were dead). But all knew it was worth it; the horror of the Nazis was gone. Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way. Neal Diamond didn't know any of this. At a UK gig (some time around 1980?) he finished up with "We'll Meet Again" - and was astonished by the reaction. Feelings sat on for 40 years flooded out, a release - the audience were sobbing, singing along and dropped into some sort of agitation he didn't get. They would not leave. So Neal's encore was "We'll Meet Again" - to rapturous applause and singing. I saw that performance on TV... can't find it on YT tho.

"When The Tigers Broke Free", and absorb all the symbolism. You need to understand though that the Mind Control aspect of Musical Artists, and Cult Movements/Dictatorships is paralleled by Roger, as indicative of anything that people blindly follow, and give their power, and will to. Fantastic Silas. Really enjpying your reactions. Please React to Pink Floyds album DIVISION BELL next. You will love it. Absolutely in my top 3 favourite Floyd albums. Ive owned Every album by Pink Floyd, including both David Gilmours solo albums and Roger Waters solo albums. The earliest Syd Barrett years get pretty weird and i rarely listen to that era as i dont find it enjoyable listening, except for a handful of songs from the Syd years with i made a mix tape (playlist) out of. But i stand by the top 7 albums being ... Animals. Wish. Division Bell. Dark Side. Meddle. On an Island (David). Pros and Cons of Hitchiking (Roger). ...and in that order. The other albums have great moments and songs too, but those above are definately my faves ...by far. And ive met many other Floyd fans who's top 3 Faves are also in those 7 mentioned above. Its great that your generation can experience this magic soundscape. Some Millenials and Z gens ( and Alphas) think they "missed out" and were born in the wrong gen times. But youse didnt miss out. Youre where your meant to be. This is your time now ...PF albums are still here now, and Roger (as of 5yrs ago) still tours whole albums and incredible stage shows, iincluding "The Wall". I go to all of them still, and some of those shows are debatebly better than the original Floyd shows, which ive seen older PF live too ...esp The Wall concert/shows about 10yrs ago . David pops up occasionally here and there too. You just have to be in the right place at the right time.

You will also see post Waters PF fans big up the later albums . They are terrible 50+ rock albums lacking the intensity or darkness of Roger . Pink Floyd are at their best when Waters and Gilmour work together

Couldn't agree with this more. Tho I must say, as much as i don't care for modern day bio-pics, one about Syd Barrett would be pretty interesting considering how nutty the guy was.

@Penderyn It is not about bashing Barrett. I just do not like the 60s albums they put out, even after his demise. It has nothing to do with mass appeal, it is simply my opinion that's all. I also love the music of Deep Purple, but not their 60s output. We can all co-exist with different opinions. That doesn't mean bashing Syd Barrett (or Rod Evans).

@@pmbbmp Yes, Nash was exceptional. However, the way in which the illness was portrayed was authentic and accurate. It helped a lot of people understand what it must be like to experience intrusive voices and images that appear real to the disordered mind.

NEVER, NEVER, EVER interrupt the guitar solos! That's rule #1 for reactors. Also you keep saying, "that guitar",,,,,,,that guitar is being played by David Gilmour 🐐. Acknowledge the artist, acknowledge his talent, give him the recognition he deserves. I enjoy your reactions but you could do so much better.😁❤️✌️

Hola. Ya te he escrito antes. Tengo 48 años y escucho a Pink Floyd desde los 7 años. El primer álbum fue Dark Side of the Moon.

Yo, when you finally watch the 1994 live Pulse concert version of Comfortably Numb, you better buckle up and strap in because I promise you’re gonna totally lose it. Not just the best David Gilmour guitar solo ever, it’s considered by many to be the best live guitar solo ever performed, and I can’t argue with that. Seeing the effect DG’s guitar work has on you, you’re definitely going to be shattered when you hear the definitive version. Keep in mind too that any live Pink Floyd performance takes every song to another level you haven’t experienced yet and can’t imagine. Can’t wait to see your reaction.

Vera Lynn just recently passed away at the age of 103. Here, Roger is referencing her famous song, "We'll Meet Again." Anyone that has seen Dr. Strangelove has heard this song as nuclear bombs are going off at the end of the movie. This song immediately brings to mind "Bring The Boys Back Home", which among things features the New York Opera. The drumming segues into the knocking on the door with the refrain "Time to go" which is how the band members would fetch Syd Barrett back in the day when they would pick him up for a show. "Comfortably Numb" serves to mentally "awaken" Pink from his almost comatose malaise; his being comfortably numb. His mind has betrayed him and it begins this fantastical journey. Though this may have been an incident buried in Pink's memory, here, his mind has imagined a doctor injecting him with an upper to get him to this show he supposedly must perform. Pink's imagination untethered of Pink's will takes a musical concert and turns it into something more sinister.

Rodger Waters always denied that Comfortably Numb was about drugs, and said it was about the fever he had as a child that nearly killed him. However in the Wall offical video the Rockstar main character was getting injection with heroin and literally melts into a couch. So take it for what you will.

Only one acceptable excuse for your Comfortably Numb reaction being interrupted. OLIVIA! :) Okay, in context of the album's narrative, by end of side two, Pink has finished his wall between himself and all of the emotional pain of the outside world. He's now lost in his own head in a near catatonic state and his inner pleas of anybody out there remain unanswered. Unable to gain any meaningful connection to the world outside of his own head, he likens the emotionally 'numb' feeling to that feeling of floating when he was severely sick as a child, caught in a dreamlike state. The 'pin prick' part is the words of a doctor floating in as he's injected with a stimulant so he can still perform.
