I'm pretty sure that the girl in the beginning says "When is a door not a door?" Then everyone afterward says "When the door is open, not closed."

When is a door not a door? That's an old one. When it's ajar. Didn't Deaton say it would be like a door opened when the sacrifice ritual happened? If the others were signing "when it's open and not closed" like the other commenter said that would seem to be pretty close to the answer. I don't know how you'd translate a pun into sign and keep the meaning intact. So I'm guessing it's "When is a door not a door? When it's ajar." And that refers to the supernatural door being opened a little bit. Maybe something wants to open it the rest of the way. If it's only ajar that means it can be opened more than it is currently. Maybe since Styles, Scott, and Allison were the "keys," so to speak, to opening the door the first time maybe they're the keys to opening it all the way.
