I like how they did his transformation. He’s a demon wolf. Peter was an alpha beast because he gave in to his animal side. Which is why it makes sense his transformation was into a werewolf closer to its animal side. With Deucalion, he was a demon wolf, he became powerful through demonic and evil actions, rather than giving in and forgetting his human side. So his design and transformation is more akin to a humanoid demon, dark bluish skin, long thin black claws, and a shifted face that is very ridged and with a bandit mask, with the others, the transition between their eyebrows and nose is smoothened, it becomes more lupine, with Deucalion, his face becomes demonic. They’re both transformations that psychotic murderers wield, but they’re different, because the way to achieve them is different. Edit: forgot to say, also, he was an augmented alpha, and then became the alpha of an alpha pack, the power he gained from just being the alpha of his pack would’ve been a huge chunk of what he’s capable at this point.

Looking through the comments with different theories. Deucalion was a demon wolf, maybe if he killed more he might have had a chance against the beast but the beast is a different kind of werewolf on his own, just like scott, he is like a once in a thousand years kind of werewolf(not that this was mentioned, but he is obviously history's most vicious werewolf - the perfect killer). Deucalion's techniques to getting power can be done by any alpha as well, long as they follow his techniques. However even though his death was shit in season 6, you need to realise that he lost his powers as a demon wolf on his fight with Jennifer (darach -dark druid). the same way the twins lost their spark as alphas against the dark druid, almost same way theo lost his powers he took from his pack and the same way derek lost his. I think there are certain situations like that where they get close to death, they lose almost, if not all of their powers.So in season 6 deucalion was a normal alpha no longer a demon wolf, if not i am pretty sure he would have tried taking the beast and wouldn't have died with just bullets.Also only reason scott isn't as strong is cause he wouldn't kill or tap into his side as a killer. As in the season every of the strongest alphas shown from peter, Deucalion, Kali, beast to nazi were all killers. Hence, why the beast acknowledged Scott's strength but said he doesn't fight with a killer instinct.

Jennifer didn't take his powers. She restored his vision. Deucalion made the conscious decision not to be that type of werewolf/man again once Scott and Derek gave him a second chance. He still had it in him. He just chose to revert back to his peaceful ways as he used to be.

That's why Jennifer/Darach was so scared when the moon wasn't eclipsed. Remember she tried her powers on him when he fought Derek and shrugged it off. It wasn't until the eclipse when he was powerless and she started to beat him. Even after those minutes passed, Derek was even able to overpower her.
