When I was pregnant with my son in 1997-1998 I put the headphones on my stomach every night and played this song for him. I also played Co-Pilot to Pilot, I Can't Love Anymore, Happy...etc. I played other artists like Prince and Michael Jackson, Isley Brothers, and other 70's and 80's music. He is 17 now and is mellow and calm and loves music. I believe that music is a wonderful tool to calm the savage beast a conflicted mind and ease a life force. Thanks Vanilla Child...

The part where she says, It hurt me but I had to let you go brings tears to my eyes. In my mind, this song became a tribute to Teena after she passed away. Emotionally, and sometimes lyrically one song from an artist takes on a new meaning for me after their passing. The sad way she sings this song and that lyric where she says I had to let you go feels like a goodbye between us and her. We all had to let her go long before we expected it. Rest in Peace Teena. She was one of the best that ever picked up a microphone. She deserves more credit than she got during her lifetime.

Tina was ahead of her time and this earth wasnt ready for her, there is nothing more clearer for the mind to comprehend that to know that Tina was from another time and place and came here with a mission, her music had no color cause her voice was not of her own, no one could understand how this little white girl out of Venice California could compete and sing like the best of them...we did not appreciate her till she was gone, we as a people have done that far too many times in our lives. there will never be another Ali, Micheal Jackson, Prince, Maurice White, Luther or Whitney and there will never be another Tina Marie. i was blessed to have lived in her era..may she rest in peace! her songs will live forever, her voice and spirit aint coming back no more....she been here before!!!

Jesus Christ I never knew she could play a piano , I knew she could play a guitar extremely well. This is an original artist, music need to get to this when you can feel the passion in the song. And I do agree with others that she was under-appreciated, at least in mainstream music. And that's odd, because she was one of the most talented artist to ever grace the stage. I think that I first heard Teena Marie's records being played on the radio in 1974 and couldn't believe what an incredibly gifted, unique and natural singer she was. Her voice soared effortlessly through her incredible vocal range full of emotional twists with her quick timbre changes. I was in College going for my B.S. in Music Education degree and was listening to many different radio stations since I wanted to teach in the inner city. Her comeback put too much strain on her...RIP.
