This is a good song, but it misses the point of the original; that it actually sounds like the dreams of teenagers. Rough, a little crass, but genuine. The polished respectable version might sound fine, but it doesn't ring true in the same way.

I kinda agree. I like the way he turned the lyrics into ones that fit good for a male point of view kind of song. I do enjoy covers like those, I mean he turned a typical love song into something so sincere and sweet. I do like Katy Perry, I respect the fact that she writes most of her lyrics. Her version is a good one, for me nothing can replace the original, but I feel like Boyce Avenue’s version is the best cover of this song. Do you know what I think? I think Katy and Boyce Avenue should make a duet version together 😂. I don’t know which version I like best. I’ve grown up with Katy’s version and I play it whenever I get a boyfriend that gets me and sets my soul on fire. Because you know, I’m a girl. But this male version of the song makes me feel good about what a guy would think in this scenario if he truly is “the one”. You know? When I heard this just now (I know this cover for a while, but I played it right now because it felt right), I was imagining my guy singing it and I felt so happy. That’s why I like both versions equally, but I agree that the lyrics to this male cover are better thought and fit better for a more sweet version and of the song. ‘Cause let’s be honest: Katy’s version and music video are mostly about physical attraction and the first rush that you get when you love someone. And this cover shows a different side to this whole thing. It shows a guy who loves his girl so much that he can’t help but be the good guy who will always be there for her. It’s not about sex and stuff, it is.. honest. Still, I can’t put my mind to choose which version I like best. I like both. And I appreciate both because of what I just said. Like, if I sing Katy’s version to my boy he’ll be happy, and if he sings this male version to me… my heart would melt. You know? That’s why I probably like both versions equally 😄😍

What are you even talking about? It's basically the same thing lyrically other than a few small changes and even those changes are inspired by the original. You can talk about liking a slower rendition but when you bring the lyrics which are almost the same, and imply you love one and hate another altogether you kind of sound ridiculous.

This song is beautiful, no matter how old. I truly adore this cover. In my personal opinion, this cover is much better than the actual song. It demonstrates the sheer innocence of young love. I adore the fact he changed the sexual lyrics into innocent, romantic lyrics. I found this song from a Kira-kun today mmv, and I've been in love with it ever since. Whenever I hear this song, I want to cry. I'm very emotional. Somewhere in my hopeless romantic mind, I wish someone will sing this to me.
