I don't understand all the "hate" towards pom 400 and 170. I got the 400 for 298 and think it is great for drones and techno. I would like to pair it with the 170 although i think this one is a bit overpriced for 299... Im using the 400 with a RD-6 and i spend hours hipnotized with a techno beat and messing with the 400... Saw bad gear the other day about the 400 and i find fantastic that he's talking bad about the synth but then obtains amazing sounds out of it. Nice video, maybe i'll get the 170...

Looks like fun!

If the controls are as compatible with Lego as they look like they ought to be, could be fun to make some kinds of "mechanical automation" or wacky controllers for it.

That would be very cool.

@@st0rmchild I was seriously tempted just now to get one for doing just that. There's a huge box of Lego Technic in attic, from the kids. But unfortunately, its priced a bit out of my "impulse purchase" range. Very interested to see Robin's full review.

don't quote me on this but I remember something about them being compatible, prolly needs some forum searches

@@danvandal4127 The OP-1 has some lego compatibility. I like the idea of a modular system that uses mechanical linkage instead of electrical. Sure CV is probably better in almost every objective sense, but moving parts are cool - tape echos and mellotrons! I remember as a small kid being taken to see fairground organ on the back of truck - it was huge, loud, a bit scary and completely mesmerizing. And a little bit out of tune, too.

Yeah it's lego compatible, a lot of TE products are. Should fit quite nicely. You could make something mechanical to automate it or use mindstorms, but if you're thinking of doing it with mindstorms you might be better off with Arduino. An Arduino can produce 0-5v signals (typically only 0 OR 5, but it's easy to get values in between) and it'll run you about 5 bucks including shipping instead of over a 100 before you have anything interesting. Of course you won't be physically twisting the knobs. But just like mindstorms it can be done with visual programming instead of spending a long time programming in actual code.

Love the visual design of the TE modulars, but they sound completely dull and lifeless in every demo I’ve heard so far. That NTS-1 sitting next to it is a way better synth. You can download and install third-party oscillators and effects, and some of them are really impressive. (By the way, I’m not the one who disliked this. I gave you a thumbs up for the video as I appreciate it anyway.)

I thought it sounded pretty good and I went through a lot of different tones over 18 minutes. The Nts1 is cool but digital and midi so there are not comparable objects. I get the impression people make up their minds about them without spending any time - I think they are worth another shake.
@st0rmchild4 жыл бұрын
@@MoltenMusicTech Yeah, different technology, but they both make sounds, and I just didn’t hear anything that interesting from the modular. I have quite a few analog synths, and (at least to my ears) it doesn’t compare favorably to any of those either. Anyway, I’ve been following your Deckard project with great interest and look forward to the next chapter!

No, I’m using it as an effects processor
