I was 9 years old when this happened and Kelsey’s story was blasted on every television in the kansas city area for months. I remember crying my eyes out and wishing I could do something to help her. 17 years later, her story is the reason that I have completed 8 years of pre law education and am now studying for the LSAT to become a lawyer. I didn’t know you Kelsey, but you changed the course of my life forever. Rest in love and peace ❤️

Yep! If they’re gonna kill me they’re gonna kill me in front of everyone in this busy shopping center. Then at least I would be found easily and there would be witnesses. They likely won’t kill me there, since they want secrecy, but hopefully they’ll be spooked and run off. Never just go willingly and be quiet when someone tries to kidnap you. When they get you where they want you, out of sight and in privacy, do you really think they’ll let you go?

I actually realized I was being followed while I was in a store, the two guys kept walking pass me, then when I got in line I saw they got behind me but after I checked out they wasn't there, they walked ahead of me and I saw them just waiting behind the pillar outside the store doors, I went back and asked if i could get someone to walk me out after I told them the situation, the manger and one other clerk helped me to my car and help me put my groceries in. This was just this past Christmas 2023, I think I might have been targeted because I'm walking with a Cane and I did have my granddaughters with me. After they saw us walk out, they turned and walked the other way. The manager said he was going to call the police and thank me for being so observing. I got a call from the detective on the case a few days later, and he did inform me that yes, after they reviewed the cameras inside the store that those guys were following me. He said he even saw one walk so close when I had my back turn, and he looked inside my purse while my purse was across my shoulders. I never leave my purse in a cart while in store that's why I carry a cross body purse. Let's just say that scared me to my core. I'm thankful for kelsie parents because as a mom of 9 and grandmother of 11 I hate to think if anything like this would happen to any of my babies but I know the realization is we live in a mess up sometimes ugly world with malignant people and it's scary.

Suggestion - more and more crimes are happening where the man will recruit a female to help them prey on victims. It happened to me, a young female followed me to a shopping center garage. She was talking to her male accomplice on the phone and she jumped on me and knocked me off my feet. Within seconds, her male accomplice pulled up in his truck to block the view. Thankfully, they were only after my purse. I am hyper vigilant, but my internal radar didn’t pick up on the girl as I was not use to seeing them as a threat.

I’ve been in a similar situation, which is kinda why I also felt a bit sketched out by this guys wife- Aletha or whatever her name is. I mean, at first I felt sympathetic towards her as well bc of the whole “he likely went home after and had s*x with his wife” comment, because I assumed she was an unaware/unconnected person…but then once I heard that his wife flashed him her lady parts AFTER he got caught and she knew what he’d done- it just struck me the wrong way. It gives the impression that she was in on it maybe (?) idk I don’t want to point any fingers…but I think the majority of women could agree; if we found out our husbands did what he did, we wouldn’t stay married to him nor would we reward him with flashing our bodies whilst he was in custody for the heinous horrific crimes he’d committed behind our backs. I’ve read a lot of articles about crazy women like that, who are into s*rial killers and have weird r**e fantasies and are just as sick and twisted as some of those mfs out there…I wouldve definitely looked into her involvement if I were the detectives assigned to that case.

Greg Smith was my middle school history teacher, and he was a sweet human. Truly the best teacher I think I'd ever had. He left very early in the year to testify in court, and my long term sub had played him TESTIFYING for the Kelsey Smith law on the screen, and seeing a grown man like him cry hurt my heart. It made such a successful difference and even going into Shawnee Mission West highschool and seeing a specific plaque on it with her face, made also a big change. I always thought that Germ was involved with Kara Kopetsky's disappearance as well. These cases are always very heart wrenching to me.

The only thing I would add to what was already said is lock the doors as soon as you close the car door. My car auto locks all the doors only after I put the car in drive. Avoid getting in the car closing the door and then looking at your phone and not locking the doors first. Also when I'm driving home I pay attention to the vehicles behind me and if they have made the same last 4 turns as I have, I will drive past my street and circle around the block to see if I'm being followed. The last thing I want to do is show any sketchy individuals where I live. Please stay safe.

I hesitate to write this because it will come off as 'Victimizing the victim,'' but I'm not...I was followed home. Even though my Mom laughed off at what happened, then, I knew it was intentional. In 1977 I was in my late teens, riding my 10 speed on our street and stopped where a group of kids I knew were gathered, talking. It was summer, hot, I was wearing shorts. An 'older guy' (maybe mid-twenties), creepy. I didn't know who he was, kept looking at me. He made me uneasy. He looked directly in my eyes and sneered, "You & your legs are looking realllllly NICE sitting up there on that bike!" A tinge of fear came over me. I did the worst thing I could do: Turned my bike and rode home, back down the street and flew into my yard. I showed him where I lived. It was just me & my Mom. Our house sat back from the street flanked by trees. Around 10pm, I was sitting on the floor, playing w/one of our 3 little terrier dogs when one of them turned to the door, stiffened up, started growling. All three were staring at the door growling. I was looking at the door, when I saw the doorknob starting to turn (screen door wasn't locked.) I was scared but wondering if it was a neighbor. When I flipped on the porchlight, to my utter horror, it was the creep from earlier. I screamed at him, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" My Mom came to the door, pushed me to one side and asked what he wanted. He asked to come in, "to use the phone." He wrecked his car at the dead end on our street." (I hadn't told Mom about him earlier.) Mom told him to go back to his car and she would call the police. I was frantic, but she brushed him off as, 'just drunk.' After that I ALWAYS locked the screen door...and NEVER wore shorts again in public. Never! Yes, women, girls SHOULD be able to wear shorts to Target's, the Mall, etc., in a perfect world, we could. Kasey was wearing short shorts and a cropped shirt. Her abductor mentioned she had "pretty legs." I'm sorry, it brought back ALL the terror I felt years ago. There's no guarantee he wouldn't have noticed her if she'd been wearing jeans, but his comment about her "nice legs," were chilling. Later, an aunt shook her head, ridiculing me at a 4th July cookout for wearing jeans, instead of shorts. I didn't care. I knew why.

I thought the same thing, but it's not politically correct to even suggest victim shaming. Honestly, unfortunately, she was just too sexy. Maybe not a Victoria 's Secret model, but young and hot.
@cassandrawright-mq5kp10 ай бұрын
@@mangafq8 Think so. A roaming perv's eye would def been caught by, "Young, hot, sexy," but teen girls like Kelsey (I'm certain) and myself didn't think of it like that. It's hot outside, so put on the shorts. My Mom would've said, "YOU AREN'T going to the mall dressed like THAT, are you?!" My childhood friend's mom once complained she had to pull her 17yr old daughter aside, on orders from her husband, to explain on family vacation, she could NOT trot Florida beaches in her micro bikini barely on her ample bust, with long blonde hair & tanned bod, because, "The older men JUST CAN'T TAKE IT!!" (circa 1970.) Across the country, Ted Bundy was beginning his murder sprees on young women he specifically targeted. (p.s. Kelsey was very attractive.)

I’m not saying this young lady did this, her situation was different but, I’d also like to add, don’t just sit in your car getting situated first. Get in your car and lock the doors immediately and then get situated. People really lack situational awareness these days because of their phones or this misguided notion that nothing could happen to them so they take their time in parking lots.
@kencurtis240310 ай бұрын
If I get in and immediately lock my doors, the red security light is activated. Then if I try and start my vehicle, an alarm goes off. Bad design. I have to unlock the doors, start the car, and then relock to avoid alarm going off.

The reason why all those Police Departments took her family so seriously so soon wasnt because they raised her not to be late it was because her Daddy was a Cop. If it had been the child of a regular civilian they wouldve waited days and then went and looked for the body.

You should act as if you're under observation all the time.... there's a good chance that at times you actually are...... at a Mall or shopping center, walk out to your car indirectly and make a quick turn to your car. Have your panic alarm ready and use it if you're uncomfortable. Get in your car, lock it, start it and leave. Don't talk on your phone while walking. If anyone ever attacks you FIGHT BACK no matter what.... never leave with that person or persons.

This video was extremely helpful and I thank you for producing it. I am a woman who lives in the Bay Area, CA where crime has increased. I have wanted to share how I protect myself when I have to run errands and park (especially near vans/SUVs) at the likes of Target, Safeway, Whole Foods, Walgreens, etc. I now use a large carabiner to hold my keys, warning whistle, and pepper spray. This allows me to simply hook it on/off my purse, jacket or bra-tank straps when needed. This also allows for quick/easy accessibility in case of emergency with no fumbling. Most importantly, it serves as a strong visual deterrent for potential predators. I have personally witnessed how people stay away from me in sketchy public settings with this get up (guessing I look more like an off-duty police officer). Ladies, you must walk strong, make eye contact, and have an "air pocket" around you at all times. I have made the same for my mother since she is elderly and could easily be victimized at any time.
