oh my that is terribly dangerous you need to EAT A LOT in the growing years i am still young and i eat alot of heal;thy stuff a balanced diet. my parents would make comment that i was fat because i was lots of rubbish but since i restricted and i lost alot of weight and completely destroyed my self lost hair, period and all that now my mum wont let me out of her sight without eating something so if that is happening seek help it will effect you physically and mentally

Thanks Joanna ^_^ I reacently started my fitness journey, about few months ago and I kept telling myself that I shouldn't eat more than 1200 calories a day, but now I discovered that I was eating much less then I should have. Also I love your vides, they helped me out so much with understanding important parts of weight loss and to actually make me realise that my weight is just normal for a girl who is 17 and that I just need to be more active:) I kinda fell in love with fitness and exercising through your channel. Tell yourself you don’t need to eat, and if you have an emotional attachment to food because of a problematic experience ask your parents for help getting therapy. Try to start at 3 meals a day to a big breakfast, moderate lunch and a moderate to light dinner. If that’s a to long of a break, then eat 6 small meals everyday! With support and self confidence you can do I believe in you!😊

I'm 17.I have been watching what I eat and trying to exercise, but I've thought about going to the extreme for weight loss such as pills, fasting, etc. I only have about 20 lbs to lose. I'm 5'7 and 150 lbs. Honestly the upper body is fine I just carry all of my weight in my thighs.

@@heyfrost4950 lol yes a very old comment. The biggest thing was doing leg exercises at the gym to build muscle. I also love cycling so that was a good source of cardio and made my legs stronger

I can honestly say that until university I was very underweight. At 4'11 inches, I never had a regular menstruation and I weighed 85 pounds until university around 19-20 when a medication caused me to put on 20-30 lbs. I've still trying to loose the fat that got put on but the main part was that my bones actually GREW. My shoulder blades expanded and my hips actually expanded to a normal womanly size. Just a thought.

I’m 15 and I stopped growing in height about a year ago but I kept eating the same amount of food I used to and I became somewhat chubby. Before I was really skinny but I guess my body was using all of that food to grow. Now I’m on a diet and I’m making smarter food choices and I’m glad to say that I’m healthier now🙂 before since I didn’t experience gaining weight, I ate anything I wanted. Now it’s harder to maintain my weight which has ultimately made me more cautious of what I eat, which is good I guess. (Even if it’s tiring to wake up from eating out and find out you gained 3 pounds) Idk I just wrote this for anyone struggling in the same situation. Just know ur not alone. ❤️

Im 11 and i weigh 52kg and my other best friend are 40 and 35kg. Ive starved myself and my puberty started around at the end of the year when i was 8. I aslo play soccer (boys and girls team) and all the other girls are skinny really really skinny but they havent gone through puberty yet. My parents tell me im not fat but im the biggest in my year. They wont let me see a doctor because in 'not fat' oh and im around 5 foot.

My friends are also 35 and 40 kgs ... But it depends on the bone density you have . I'm 15 yrs old , my height is 5 feet 5.5 inches and my weight is 52-53 kgs. When I was at your age I also gained some weight ...but gradually when your height will increase you'll be thinner. And maintain a proper diet and don't worry you'll be as you want after some time..😊

I'm a 11 year old female 155cm 45.5kg ever since 2020 my control went zoom and I gained weight but I think it's healthier that I did. I was around the underweight to normal range, just recently I noticed my diet my life and everything 1. I got sad I thought I was fat and decided to go on a diet a very strict diet, after just a few days I couldn't keep up with it .. I started moderately eating after some weeks after that counting calories , exercising, etc I was happy but the whole bmi, fat % etc numbers made me sad but when I looked at myself in the mirror somtimes I looked beautiful sometimes I looked just, Not ok im so confused now should I stop? Should I stop and just be active stop counting calories I told my mother about what I was feeling she conforted me explaing for my height I should be atleast 50kgs she's not wrong, this is affecting on the way I think, my self esteem etc and I'm in a cycle we're I'm just confused.

Hi, Joanna! How tall are you? Also, I am 15 years old and have never gotten my period. I am 150 cm and 41kg. I exercise 6 times a week for a little over an hour by running 40-45 mins and doing various abdominal, oblique, and inner thigh workouts (most of which are from your channel btw!). I eat 2000 calories plus or minus 100 cals (this chart said I should eat 2044 cals). My macros are roughly 56C//21F//23P. Do you think this is healthy? I really want to get my period, but I also want to keep on growing as I am short. I heard once you get your period, you will not grow very much. What are some of your recommendations? some girls don't get their periods until 18 or so depending on if they're underweight. Though I'd suggest speaking to your family doctor about that just to be safe

I'm exactly like you....When I was 11 years old I was 35 kg and when I turned 12 last year I was 45 kg and I didn't gain height also I had low self esteem and I used to compare myself to my friends....I was also about to go on a diet but.....I'm now gonna turn 13 this year and I'm starting to gain height.....I used your tips and I'm now 42 kg!!!!.......You're so motivating and encouraging!!!! Blank Tae I'm 47kg and I'm not really sure about my height because I haven't measured but I know my height is in between 150cm and 153cm. My heaviest was 55kgs.my family started to eat healthier so instead of Oreos and I have crackers for snack. And a sandwich for lunch instead of microwaveable food.I thought of losing just 2-3more kilos and I will be fine.

I like dancing. But because I'm fat, my dance looks weird😐. Because of that, I have to lose about 10kgs from my current body weight. Thank you Joannah, You reminded me that I was still a teenager. The “average” weight of teen girls is honestly ridiculous, most of the girls they are counting have SUPER fast metabolisms, and or don’t eat enough. don’t worry girl, I’m 5’5” 185 and I’m VERY active, unfortunately I’m trapped in a cycle where I under eat but still gain weight as my body is kinda in “survival” mode if you know what I mean. Don’t stress you’ll get through this, and as long as your active and eat fine, don’t care about ANYONE else weight. ❤️❤️❤️

I agree with most of her points, but that calorie equation probably should NOT be taken at face value. She said you need that many calories to maintain healthy functioning, but 2,000 calories of Cheetos vs. 1,500 calories of healthy foods.....you’d be fine with the 1,500 The counter said that as a moderately active 17 year old girl I apparently NEED 2,108 calories a day but on the days where I eat that much it’s because I ate a ton of ice cream or a big donut 😅 if I cut out the sweets, I’d probably be at around 1,500 but feel even better than I do now! If you’re a teenager, you don’t need to count cals- just eat healthy food and eat till you’re full, you’ll be fine 😉

This is a very informative video, but I think it is triggering to tell young boys and girls about calories this way. I started severely restricting my calories at twelve years old, partly because of calorie recommendations - I thought that if I maintained at around 1900, then I would lose weight by eating less. The lesser the calories, the more weight loss. This is obviously very wrong, but you can't except a young teenager to understand that. A quick search on the internet, and it says that to lose weight we should eat 1200 calories. Even though only adults should eat this little, it is way too easy for a teen to misunderstand/misinterpret this recommendation and start eating this little themselves. I really do respect you as a health guru, Joanna, but I'm a bit worried that this video starts the wrong thoughts.

You forget that the amount of calories depends on your lifestyle. So 1200 is for a very sedentary lifestyle, meaning a person does not exercise. 1900 will be too much and result in weight gain. P. S. "Triggering"?

In the whole video she stressed staying healthy and to eating until you are satisfied. Also she explained that we need more nutrients for our growing bodies to grow to our full potential. She even explained that she was obese for a while until her height caught up with her weight. I see no problems with this video. In fact this is one of the better ones on KZbin for learning about calories and how much you should eat.

So true, i ate at about 1100 and sometimes 1300 for a little over two years. I felt so sick all the time and had no energy. I went to a dietician last year and she told me to never go below 1500 calories since i was 15 at the time. But, in my mind i needed to reduce my calories more because i hadn't lost any more weight. I'm finally understanding how to eat a normal amount so i'm working up to eating more than 1400 calories right now. Hopefully I can learn to lose weight in a healthy way. I've probably messed up my metabolism though from eating much less than i should have for this long or possibly longer I wouldn't know because I never used to track my food. Since I only ate 1100- 1300 calories normally i would end up binge eating at different times and then feel hopeless.

I'm 4,11 and im 92 pounds but my dad said I should be 100 pounds for my height, ever since I was little i always had a high metabolism and I'm a HUGE eater but I never seem to gain weight, instead I lose weight even though I've been eating more than usual. I am a 12 year old female at 116 pounds (checked a few months ago at er) my height is 5,2 and I exercise between 30 minutes and 2 an a half hours a day during the summer, then 2 and a half to 5 hours a day during the school year (vigorous exercise) . I am fine with my body, I feel confident in it I just want to be healthy. The math is really confusing. I tracked my calorie intake/burn, yesterday I ate 451.1 calories, I didn't do anything but walk around my house (I'm sick with a cold, so I didn't go to my gymnastics practice) so I only burned about 132.7 calories, ending with 318.4 calories. Today I ate 837.3 calories, I burnt around 738.2 calories, leaving 99.1 calories. I haven't been active recently so I haven't eaten as much. I have been told I don't eat enough, and i'm not very skinny, and that I exercise too much. Is my diet ok? It's about 53% carbs, 18% protein, and 29% fats. (I put everything in afterwards I didn't pressure myself to change my eating)

Please stop doing that to yourself girl. First of all, calories you burn exercising are not your all day calories burned. Sleeping burns calories, sitting, talking, even while you are eating. And girl you are 12, at the age where you should grow the most and not care about your food at all. You happen to fall into something very dangerous very early, you sloudn't even know what calories are, but i get it, i was the same about 2 years ago, when i was 13. So i am talking from an expirence, that little calories will destroy you completly if you don't pull yourself out of it. Idk if you are awere of it or not but that what you are doing is such a dark eat!ng d!s0rder. You won't feel and you won't be any better by bearly eating or skipping meals. And no1 actually cares, your body is in your control, by starving your not harming anyone but yourself. You choose what to do, and nobody will ever be able to feel what only your body can feel. So do you want to be obssesed with calories all the time and never be happy, or you want to finally be free and not give a shit. And belive me when i tell you, you will be more fit by eating more than you would by starving. When you starve you loose weight almost everywhere but your belly (mostly lower) and that is because naturally females have a bit more fat around lower belly cuz of period and pregnancy and other kinds of stuff. So giving your body little to no food is just creating alarm for surviving, and your body is giving its best to save (by that food your giving it) fat around most immportant organs. So you will never be happy by the way you look even if you're bearly eating. So actually when you eat more and that would be around 1,800-2,300 calories daily, you will naturally grow your butt and yk upper parts. So your body won't be needing to save fat around your stomach anymore, so you'll end up having flatter stomach and nice other parts.. anyway. Please care for yourself more girl cuz in reality everyone is for themselves, enjoy food and enjoy exercise and enjoy your time rather that worrying about something such as calories and trying to restrict, there is a lot more in life than that. If you choose to get better let me tell you right now, it won't be easy for the first 2-3 weeks, cuz your body will have hard time procesing all that calories that it has been missing. So just don't give up and don't worry about bloating and stuff, cuz it will go away soon and you'll end up having and feeling super good in you body.. trust me.. i have done the same. Now i am eating so much and train when i want and for as long or as little as i want and have abs lol.. and just because i am giving my body what it needs. Stay strong and fight it ❤

I gained 40 pounds during puberty 😂 well I was 80lbs for like my entire life, but from ages 10-12 I grew almost 10 inches And she’s right, eat *healthy* but if you feel the need to eat a lot, eat or u won’t be able to grow! You have plenty of time to diet in ur 20s/30s/beyond

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice, I've always been very insecure about my weight and around this time last year I lost quite a bit, now I'm 12, 164 ish cm and around 53 kg, am I a good weight or should I am to lose some? I do sport 5-6 times a week. I feel like I'm always trying to diet to lose weight , and I've been told that that "hints" an eating disorder sometimes but I don't think I have one, although recently I feel like I've become a bit heavier and I try to skip lunch and replace it with a nakd bar or something similar. I feel like on a day that I eat "enough", I have around 1700 or 1500 calories, and on days that I'm trying to cut down I eat as low as 1000 sometimes. The calorie calculator seems to say that I need over 2,000 calories. I have a very healthy lifestyle, all though I do sometimes break and "binge", and I've become a bit obsessive and I've been told that it is alot healthier to eat a little bit of something unhealthy every day, rather than all of it at once. I know it's true but I find it easier to have "cheat" days because as soon as I have something unhealthy, I crave even more and more. On a normal day I would eat something like this: Breakfast: 1/2 cup muesli or porridge 1 whole apple or some sort of fruit Sometimes agave nectar and dried fruits Snack: Nakd Bar or some sort of nut and fruit bar with no added sugar (sometimes Yo Bears) or rice cakes Lunch: This is the part that really depends if I'm feeling insecure or not, if I'm not then I usually have Some sort of protein, usually chicken or salmon Big serving of vegetables If I'm feeling insecure I usually have some healthy snacks, like a fruit and nut bar Dinner: Whatever my mum cooks really, she always cooks very healthy foods with little amounts of oil. Usually a serving of protein with vegetables, but cooked in different ways. On days that I do a lot of sport I do eat a bit more generally. If it helps, this is my sports schedule: ( I have matches almost every week and it varies which day it's on.) Monday Lacrosse before school, swimming during school. Tuesday Athletics and Netball practise Wednesday None Thursday Lacrosse Practise at lunch, Lacrosse lesson, Netball Lesson Friday None Saturday Cross-Country Matches I feel like this is definitely not over 2,000 calories. Please reply, I'd really appreciate some advice. I'm really sorry for such a long comment, thank you if you have taken the time to read it :)

I also have same height and weight....I also think in a same way and i.e why I started eating less that 1000 calorie but my blood level gone down due to less intake of nutrients .Therefore I suggest u to eat healthy in limitation and always feel satisfied bout yourself.....

I had an eating disorder when I was 13. I ate 800 calories a day. I was 5'7 and 115 lbs. I burnt 600 calories by exercise every day. My body went to starvation mode and I didn't realize anything.😟

I was in your shoes and you probably hit puberty earlier it’s okay everyone’s different and trust me you are perfect though it may seem like your overweight you may have a large body frame and that’s okay and if your taller you will weigh more and even though I don’t know you just know that you are perfect I promise you❤

I remember I used to think I was sooooo fat I would force myself to eat 800-1200 calories a day. I would be so hungry and I exercised so much. But I didn't really lose much weight since I couldn't keep up with it. I got really discouraged and upset :( I want to become healthier and eat more vegetables and whole wheat grains instead of junk. I am happy that I absolutely looovvvee water its been my favorite drink for years. And i have slimmed up quite a bit. I'm also a vegetarian so its hard to get all the protein I need, obviously I need to work on my eat habits lol. Great video though :)

I'm 13, 5'5 and 150 pounds... I don't think this would be such a big deal if I hadn't started 2015 at 120... Yes, I gamed over 30 pounds in half a year... Yikes. I want to get back down to at least 130 by the end of this year and I'll definitely try the tips you gave in this video. Thanks!

Joanna: "until your height can catch up" me: "and if it never does?" i'm about 139 cm and roughly around 33.4 kg, but since our scale is wonky and used, it could be more or less at times. like if it says 33.4 kg and I change it to lbs, you'd expect about 73 lbs. but it would change to something like 76 and vice versa.

I am a 17 year old, and I was slightly overweight. I lost weight in two weeks, but I haven't really gone on a diet. The only thing I changed was cutting out foods with trans fat, preservatives, and I stopped snacking after 7:00. I've read and heard from multiple sources that you losing more than about 2 pounds a week isn't healthy, but somehow I ended up losing ten pounds. I have been meaning to exercise more, but am worried that it may cause me to lose weight even faster. Should I be worried, or am I just being paranoid?

I dont understand this.. I'm currently 50kg at 153 cm while dieting and controlling my calories. I eat about 1,500 calories a day eating healthy food to only maintain my weight. I calculated my needed calories and it is 1,940!! If i ate that much I would gain a lot of weight. Help

I’m 162cm and 57kg I eat about 1000-1500cal a day and I’m still not losing weight whenever I can’t exercise because of school and homework I eat less than 1300cal , I tried the 500cals day for a week but after that I couldn’t keep doing it so I ate 800cals a day for about 2weeks but my hair started falling and I kept feeling weak so I stopped I now I’m waiting for the summer vacation so I can start working out regularly and eat a healthy diet
