I have been to tons of concerts, but everytime I had the chance to watch Sinéad perform live I went out to see her. Almost like watching an old friend. She was a brave, one of a kind artist and she definately had the best voice I’ve ever heard. She is so missed. May her broken heart have healed and may she be in peace with her son 😢

Prince actually wrote this song for one of his groups on his label 'The Family' Sinead made it her own and a worldwide hit.
@vegasbaby36695 ай бұрын
Correction, Prince wrote this for one of his “side project groups” called The Family in or around 1987-ish, and they recorded it/released it with very little “fan-fare” 3 years later, Sinead, “dusted it off” and turned it into an international worldwide smash!

Sinéad O'Connor (shin-AYD) born in 1966 was an Irish singer, songwriter, and activist. Her debut studio album, The Lion and the Cobra, was released in 1987 and achieved international chart success. Her 1990 album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, was her biggest commercial success, selling over seven million copies worldwide. Its lead single, "Nothing Compares 2 U", (written by the late, great Prince) was honored as the top world single of the year at the Billboard Music Awards.... BTW I see the tears got to you at tthe 6:25 mark

DJ Paul Gambaccini was in a big NY store. This was played in the store and Paul Paused to listen as it was his first time and thought surely this is going to be a hit. Then at the “went to the Doctor” the shop girls all spontaneously joined in to sing along. Paul thought if they are joining in then it is definitely a hit.

Nothing compares 2 this song, it's not easy to get the world to stop what they're doing and listen to your woes for 5 minutes and watch you cry, but Sinead managed that with a large part of the world in 1990, this was the biggest selling song of that year all over the place. Sadly it was probably too big for Sinead and she struggled with its one-song success (she made plenty more great music but obviously that song dominated her) She was a strong Irish woman with very strong Irish-woman opinions and campaigned for many liberation struggles. She was controversial, and upset many people with her campaign against the Roman Catholic church, especially when she ripped up a picture of the Pope (John Paul II) live on television. She struggled a lot with depression over the years and passed away just last year. She was so beautiful and had a unique voice. Glad you enjoyed this one.

You don't know what you're talking about. She never wanted to be "famous", she only wanted to express her artistry as a musician and got accidentally famous when this song became such a big hit. Also, her life wasn't ruined because she couldn't handle fame. She used the platform that fame gave her to criticize the Catholic church for systemic abuse of children in Ireland and she was "cancelled" for telling the truth by idiots who judged her without knowing the facts.
