Im gonna get real here and if you wanna engage with it, let's talk. If you don't, I won't bother responding. When did you grow up? let's say u grew up in the 80s. I scarcely know the culture of that time but it's a stark contrast so you'll see what I mean. So the kinda kid who says "these are my pronouns" nowadays is the exact same kinda kid who cared about things like conservation or started talking in the more radical languages of their day, depending on area. Probably minor anti-war stuff, civil rights, women's rights - or maybe they would have gravitated towards helping their community. That's because those things come from a place of good, of wanting to foster an understanding and accepting society that offers care to things which tangibly improve the experiences of all. Nowadays, one of the things that falls under this is pronouns. Say what you want about them, but you say "she" and "he" and all their variations ALL the time. Here's a choose your own adventure book. What happens when that one kid who you really like at your job starts going by "he" instead of "she"? Well, you'll think it's silly, obviously. It's just a kid falling for that woke crap. The kid starts changing maybe, and you might say "this is going too far now, isn't it?" to yourself. Then that kid comes in one day, shaved hair, wearing men's jeans. And... you see that kid smile for the first time. You might not notice that this is the first time that kid has smiled in front of you. But it is. And then you see that kid start to talk more to people. More smiles, more talking. That kid starts to connect more to the people in every way. Then gets not just sometimes smiley. But joyful. Exuberant. And you see what beauty lies in it for this kid. Because getting to be this way... it let the kid be happy. Here's where you choose. When along this path would you stop saying "her" and start saying "he?" When you see him happy all the time, and then you saying "she" seems to drain that happiness? How would you feel watching this exuberant, joyful human temporarily lose all that because of you? He might bounce back the next day, but you got to watch a little tiny bit of his goodness be chipped away by what you said. It doesn't seem like the right thing to do even if you know he'll rebuild that piece tomorrow. THAT is what pronouns are. You respect his pronouns by saying "he" instead of "she". And it brings beauty to his life, rather than chips away at him. It's a clear choice any decent human would make. If you want to know why people might GIVE their pronouns even though the pronouns are obvious, I'd be happy to oblige you. But only if you see it for what it IS, not what you've been told by our system to believe it is.
