Two recommendations from someone who has done a very similar craft before: 1) Drive two finishing nails into the bed from either side such that both blocks are nailed together. Prevents wobbling, and weighs the bed down just enough. 2) Before making the quilt/external blanket, lay a square of parchment paper over the bottom sheet and bend it over the sides. Since PVA does not stick to parchment paper, this method will allow you to make multiple sets of blankets that will fit this bed. Great for varying colors. Let the outer layer dry overnight, and then remove it from the bed. Go ahead and lay another upper blanket down,.

Nice idea on the sheets. I find the blocks are heavy enough so no need for the extra step.

Would you worry about the nails possible splitting the wood blocks? I like the sheet idea too.🙂
@MKempICI
@MKempICI 5 жыл бұрын
@@RealTerrainHobbies Thank you! Splitting the blocks is a concern. To avoid it, I marked the locations with a punch, and drilled a very thin hole with a Fiskars hand drill. You could probably use a drill or a Dremel at low-speed, but I would make sure you have few extras. The good news is, you probably don't need to do this. The ones I was using were VERY cheap knockoffs, which seemed to be made of balsa and about twelve layers of lacquer. I assumed that was what DM Scotty was using, but according to his statement above, the blocks he used did not need any additional weight. If I were going go do this again, I would just find that brand, and skip the drilling.

@@theDMsCraft Thank you! The blocks I was using were a set of VERY cheap knockoffs, that were basically balsa with about 12 layers of lacquer. The lacquer, moreover, was a little tacky to the touch, making these the world's worst Jenga pieces. They made pretty good beds. I assumed we were both using the same blocks, but it sounds like the knockoffs you found are made of much heavier wood. So to all crafters out there, a word to the wise, not all fake Jenga blocks are equal. Buy the ones DM Scotty used. One side note, if anybody decides to go the ineffective Jenga-mimic route, I list what I did to prevent splitting in my reply to Real Terrain Hobbies below.

Regarding a good source for cool beads and other cool bits is a thrift store. Sometimes they have a really cheap jewelry grab bag for a couple bucks. Ive found lots of cool stuff there.

You know, if you can find the paper towels with the more intricate patterns in them, their pattern tends to hold up to the glue process, so if you switch to them for the blanket and then back to the TP for the fold, you'll have more of a look like a quilt which would fit more.

Oh cool..I was just talking to my aunt about the Dollar Tree, she has to go cross town (she lives like..a five minute walk from my house) to go to our local Dollar Tree, I told her they are building a new one closer by in an old pharmacy building so it shouldn't take long for them to get up and running since they are just using the old building itself instead of building a whole new one. I'll be looking forward to that so I can actually get the stuff to build this on the cheap.
