The opening and closing themes grabbed me as a youngster and their magic has never abated over the years. Regal Lassie sitting there during the closing credits warms the heart, and when she lifts her paw, it is enough to break it, so at one are you with her. Ah, were it so that life was always filled with such connections, and because they are not, you cling to this moment ever the more.

Growing up I had two shelties that looked like Lassie. One passed in 1997, and the other passed in 2012.

I was a kid for the Lassie "rebirth" of the early 80s on Nick at Nite, when a bunch of us GenXers fell in love with an old Boomer show about a boy and his dog.. I still whistle the theme music all the time.

This music makes me tearful. No internet no video games. Just playing in the mud till gone 9pm, parent shouting over the fence over on to the village green, so you knew it was bedtime, tea time etc

My Mom used to loveeeee Lassie the actual dog in real life and poodles but more the poodle skirts. She use to tell how she had a whole bunch of pretty poodle skirts growing up but sadly when they stole everything from Her and My Grandma when My Grandma passed away she lost everything she had they even kept all her pictures and family memobilia and things that could identify that she was she. We used to laugh together and often cried about stories we would share with one another. And I'm so Proud of who My Mom was and My Family. She was the Best and will always be the Mother I could ever had had in my life. She lives in all of us. 😭

For some reason, this was on TBN in the early-to-mid 2010s, which is how I think I first saw it... Or maybe second

I don't watch Lassie, but I've learned about this because the opening is the foundation of the opening to Buttons and Mindy from Animaniacs.

At the time I watched Lassie in early-mid 60's, I knew nothing of its previous TV-history, including the syndicated-reruns titled "Jeff's Collie", which simply were reruns of the original Lassie TV-series in the 50's, no episodes of which I ever recall seeing or of having any awareness. To me, the Lassie-series was the one in the 60's with June Lockhart, Hugh Reilly, and Jon Provost. I remember being so-surprised, and not a little disbelieving, when my parents revealed at some point that there had been many-multiple TV-Lassies over-the-years. I knew nothing of the MGM Lassie movies, either. Lassie aired, when I watched them as a child, on Sunday-nights at 7 pm ET, on CBS. There was no local OR network-news on weekends in that era. Early Sun. evenings were reserved for adult-documentaries like Profiles in Courage, American Heritage, Winston Churchill bio-series, WWI documentary spanning weeks, etc. Kids' & family-friendly programs followed, such as Mr. Ed, Dennis the Menace, and My Favorite Martian. Of course, for me, Lassie was followed by Disney, though on different networks. CBS aired Ed Sullivan for decades on Sun. nights from 8-9. By 9 pm, the adults featured adult-fare. I remember watching The Flintstones on Sun. evenings, too, from 7-7:30, right before Disney, both on NBC, so I don't know how I could watch Lassie during the same time-slot, 7-7:30. Perhaps we tired of Lassie after discovering Flintstones, I don't know. It's a mystery to me now.

The Flintstones was an ABC Network presentation. It never aired before WWoDis. The Flintstones didn’t air nationally on Sundays ever. It was Friday night for four seasons and Thursday night for two. Maybe your local affiliate had permission to air it out of pattern?
@jackbuckley7816 Жыл бұрын
@@anthonyaustin3370 You may very well be right. My hometown had only 2 TV stations carrying NBC & CBS. ABC programs were divvied up between them. Although I believe some, like Batman, were carried when ABC actually aired them, most probably were shown in time slots of the local stations' own devising, so that would explain my watching Flintstones locally here before Disney. I definitely recall Lassie at 7 pm on Sundays on CBS, Wild Kingdom at 7 on NBC right before Disney, so I'm not sure why I seem to remember Flintstones on Sundays at 7. Hard to remember the programming from that long-ago now, though I still recall a good bit of it!

The original 'Lassie' was a male collie named 'Pal'. He was only in 2 episodes with Jeff Miller (Tommy Rettig), then Pal' son called 'Lassie Junior' took over and was also with Timmy (Jon Provost). After that came Pal's grandsons 'Baby' and 'Spook'. Every 'Lassie' was a male dog.
