Look at all the turbines that are not turning. The maintenance costs are probably more than the income from the energy produced. Many of these wind turbines were purchased for their tax write off. Once the tax benefits are gone, the wind turbines are abandoned.

Or maybe...there was no wind over there at the time! Gasp! Individual turbines' maintenance costs are close to NOTHING compared to other technologies. 1 turbine can essentially power 1500-6000 homes, and maintenance is barely in the 40k range, a low-income man's salary (and no, I don't mean anyone needs to be there full-time to maintain one) No, buying one is where the costs are but once you have one, this is essentially free energy! But then again, costs are dropping ...
@myphonyaccount3 жыл бұрын
wind power costs less than fossil and nuke. these are old 1970s units not worth repairing. the newer ones are very cost effective.

That sound made by the one casting the shadow, sounded like there was an asymmetry in the pitch of the blade. The frequency was wavering by each full turn of the rotor, rather than the passing of each blade in front of the lattice tower. And, of course, the bird flying through the wind farm went through unscathed. I was waiting to see a fabled bird strike, but I think it's too rare for someone to actually catch on camera. The old lattice tower wind turbines actually make more noise, than the newer, larger ones on round towers. I've never been able to get close enough to a turbine, to actually hear it. The road noise, and bushes and trees, drown out the sound of the blades. A friend of mine hopped a fence, and put his ear right against a tower, and was able to hear the whirr of the gears, and the hum of the alternator clearly, but he said it wasn't loud. He had to make direct contact with the machine, to hear anything at all. He admitted, the wind wasn't blowing hard enough, for the machine to generate full name plate capacity. It was just fast enough for the turbine to "cut in".(I'm a big fan of the big fans)

It looks like it's running completely unloaded. A lot of the turbines there are old and basically abandoned.
@lukenoble74112 жыл бұрын
Actually I work on this site on those old turbines it’s a blade plug missing in the blade tip these old turbines didn’t pitch the tips of the blade would spring sideways if the rotor oversped to slow the rotor down enough for brakes fo apply also these old guys don’t have alternators and most likely what you friend heard wasn’t the gears it was most likely the rotor making Noise inside the main shaft I haven’t heard any noise coming from the gearbox when these towers are running
@lukenoble74112 жыл бұрын
@@gregorymalchuk272 actually no 95% of them are still taken care of and most of them have been decommissioned all the turbines you see spinning still put power to grid if they where running with no power going to grid or the tower they would run away and after time of them constantly running away the rotor would grenade and the blades would explode or the nacelle would break the tower mounts and fall off

1970s units, small diameter = output too low to fix, but they do take parts off some to quick fix others. cheaper to let them sit there. there are better wind sites elsewhere on the property.

@CarriUSA Жыл бұрын
@myphonyaccount stop the lying about the cost of wind farms….it’s outrageously way more expensive than fossil fuels…not just to the electric customer, but the maintenance, building, battery packs, distribution…as you need more power stations also because wind and solar generation has a travel problem…I was offered to go on partial wind and my bill would double! Now my rates are going up 15% just to cover the cost of 2 solar farms….in a area of the country that gets no sun most of the year and short days….and no wind the majority of the time! It’s not efficient, no cost effective, a waste of money and tax payer dollars, and destruction to life and land, unreliable, and doesn’t work!!! You need over 15 mph winds to sustain turbine rotation….average mph wind where I am is 4 mph. Absolute nonsense and idiotic to waste 100’s billions on wind and solar that doesn’t work, does more damage than fossil fuels, is not cost effective or efficient, and force it on people and areas that will never work…plus destroy our electric grid as it’s doing already!!!!
