Tekken 1 [Arcade] - play as Wild Card (unused)

This is a playthrough using Wild Card in the Arcade version of Tekken 1. Read on below for more information...
Wild Card is an unused "character" in the game, meaning that he is an unplayable character.
===== ABOUT WILD CARD =====
This character seems to be an extra "dummy" sort of character, who is formed using Kazuya's model with Kunimitsu's moves and mannerisms.
The interesting thing is that he has a unique voice to himself, along with some "glitched" sounds.
It is unclear on why this "character" is in the game. What we do know however is that the legit "Wild Card" is used for an empty Player 1 or Player 2 panel on the character select screen, but is not an actual character.
Using external methods you can select Wild Card and bring him up as an actual character. There are some possible reasons for this character existing - maybe there was a Random Select feature planned but never implemented; or this may be a template for another character that was never made. It could even be a data manifestation.
===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION =====
---- When you select/confirm him on the character select screen, it actually plays an animated "FMV" portrait animation of the spinning question mark icon, like as if you selected a regular character. This comes as a surprise because he is an unused character.
---- When you select/confirm him on the character select screen, the announcer says his name as "Wild Card" obviously.
---- When using him in a 2-Player game, if he wins a round then the game will freeze after the replay. This is most likely due to him not having an announcer voice for his name for in-game matches.
---- He only has one costume, and that is Kazuya's 2nd costume.
---- When you complete the game with him in single-player mode, after entering your name, he appears with Paul's icon on the Time ranking screen.
---- On the Character usage statistics screen, he appears with Kazuya's icon and name.
---- He does not have a Stage 8 sub-boss obviously.
===== ABOUT ARCADE TEKKEN 1 =====
This is the very first version of the game that started the entire franchise... this is the one right at the start of the full Tekken timeline (including ports, etc.). When Arcade Tekken 1 was first released, it was up against Virtua Fighter 1... with Tekken being regarded as the more popular game due to the "better" gameplay and visuals, and the fact that it ran at 60fps unlike VF1.
The game sees the debut of a large portion of the characters who are still active in the modern Tekken games of today, basically becoming staples of the franchise. All of the characters in it (besides male Kunimitsu) have made a return in the sequel Tekken 2, which from thereafter in the future games, some have constantly reoccurred, while some have had infrequent appearances.
The interesting thing (at least for me) about the arcade version of Tekken 1 is that it features unplayable unique personal bosses for each one of the characters... I'm not 100% sure but this is possibly the first 3D fighting game with this feature. The bosses (besides Heihachi) gameplay-wise are pretty much derivatives/clones of their regular character counterpart, but it's still a nice feature to have, bringing an element of "mystery" due to them being non-selectable.

Prologue: Raised in the Manji clan and taught their ways Wildcard never knew of his true family (or why they gave him such a stupid name). He participated in the King of Iron Fist along side his master Yoshimtisu to learn the truth of his past. Arcade ending: Wildcard had defeated Heihachi and reunited with his long lost brother. Their happy reunion however was short lived. Wildcard could feel the darkness within Kazuya's heart a darkness that would plunge the world into chaos. With a heavy heart Wildcard slew his brother and went into a live of solitude. Never to be seen again.

christian boi21 Actually, A Genius Billionaire Playboy Philanthropist created wildcard as a way to test his genius before creating the 3rd Iron Man suit. What ended up happening was wildcard fought Yoshimitsu one day and learned his fighting style. He also stole Lee’s voice box somehow. And, he also took Kazuya’s second costume when analyzing him.

Perhaps Wild Card was the original inspiration for Mokujin in later games, considering they're basically mimic characters.

The bosses on the FMV screen work because whenever you lose to the CPU and answer the continue prompt, the game is programmed in such a way to auto-assign the CPU the last character that won. Eg. if P1 lost to Paul and continued, the select screen would have Paul appear for P2. What this means is that if P1 loses to the stage 8 sub-boss, their animation for the FMV screen shows up. :) Wild Card is only intended to show up when first starting the game. I've never delved into the game's programming - so this is all speculation on my part - but I believe it's meant to be the game randomly assigning a CPU opponent and nothing more. I am intrigued as to why the game loads up Kazuya's P2(?) model and Yoshimitsu's moveset. My guess is that model data is stored in such a way that normally unaccessed data is in fact loadable.

Just recently getting into tekken, and I was wondering if any effort was made to reverse engineer/study old tekken's code, as I haven't been able to find anything online I think that the model data is stored separately from moveset etc. So maybe wildcard just loads the first usable model and the first usable moveset it finds in memory, that may be respectively kazuya's and yoshimitsu's

Instead of having them as Semi Bosses at Stage 4 Sub Bosses at Stage 8 & Mid Bosses at Stage 9 how about just getting The Final Boss at Stage 10 including 9 Opponents appearing initially randomly in order at 9 Fight Stages

I feel like the voice that Wild Card has was supposed to be for Lee, but for whatever reason they messed up and gave him Kazuya's voice. Just listening to Wild Card's voice here I feel that it was meant to be for Lee, but I guess they thought "Oh, he's just another boss character, nobody will actually get to play as him." So they just did what they did with all the other boss characters and gave him the same voice as his rival. It's the only other unique voice in the game and Lee's the only one who served any kind of purpose to the story out of the boss characters so it makes sense to me. And Kunimitsu's win poses would look surprisingly fitting on Lee.

For what it seems, it looks like this character should have been a completely randomizer character, choosing random skins voices and movesets from all the characters in the game, but one unused voice of a removed character remained

No, it was a regular random select option like in other fighting games. It was merely a button to prompt the game to choose a random fighter for you. But because of the way player select screen was programmed, this little "button" required to have actual character data so the game can properly read it and list it among other characters. So they created this new "character". They put "Wild Card" in the name field, they put the question mark image in the portrait field, and the rest of its data was filled randomly because none of it was important. After all, when the player selected Wild Card, the game would simply select someone else. But for reason, this doesn't work properly. The game doesn't select another character but instead, it selects Wild Card itself, giving you all the randomly filled junk data.

@@davymachinegun5130 I agree but I still can't see where the "WILD CARD!" announcer voice clip would have played... EDIT: Actually nevermind, the game was supposed to have random select option. Question mark icon is still present in the game, yet it's completely unused. You can see it if you mess with cheats altering the character select screen in ePSXe. I think the announcer would yell "WILD CARD!" when picking that icon. There's also a very early screenshot of a lost test build of the game with two question mark icons on the character select screen (what's sorta interesting is that the icon that's in the final version is completely redesigned, so maybe random select was cut late in development?)

Before you can "r/wooosh" me I want to remind you that this comment is just a stupid joke XD I like to think this is just a goofy version of Kazuya. Or his good part. Also he probably got trained by Yoshimitsu. And also the fact that the sub-boss is Kazuya makes me think that he's probably the other part of Kazuya.
