this is pretty helpful for facing newbie Ninas that actually do punishable and duckable moves... which I don't really run into anymore. and all my friends that play Nina are *CRACKED* endless df1 into backsway sidestep cancel just having an absolute conniption in my face and doing whatever they want until I'm dead. how do you counter THAT

Two of my training partners are both high level Nina players. While they don't use some of the highs/punishable stuff, it's important to know these things to dissuade the behavior in the first place. Higher level players understand risk/reward too well to rip highs at the end of strings like df1,2,4 all the time. The 4 is there to catch people who are overzealous to take their turn. This concept is applicable even on a knowledgeable opponent if Nina's opponent has represented a jab check or a 13f mid check over and over, considering df1,2 on it's own is -3 (before we consider cancelling to step/forward sway). Arslan and other Nina's also regularly rip f1+2 (blonde bomb) her armor move that is -14 on block outside of heat. Punishes will still come up regardless of play level, just less frequent. As far as countering df1 into sway pressure, there's not really any chip threat unless she's in heat. Those cancels are all -1 into sidesteps, and 0 into a forward sway. The forward sway 1 from Nina will often blow up jab checks, while the jab check blows up the sidestep cancel. You can mess around with sidestepping common pressure sequences that your friends like, and alternate between checking their pressure, armoring, stepping, ducking etc. You should be cycling your defensive options to keep the Nina player from doing a lot of fake pressure sequences since she's never + on block on either transition. (On hit is another story). Nina is incredibly + on SS1 cancels, so this is a situation where they will be able to have a "conniption" in your face again, but this is a matter of patience on where you can take your turn back or check them. The replay function can really help you find specific solutions to problems. Next time you play your friends, save some of the replays and go back to problem solve. There's either a gap, an opportunity to armor, step, duck, generic parry etc. Troubleshoot all your characters defensive tools in common scenarios and you'll find solutions to problems. There's no one-size fits all silver bullet solution in Tekken. Which is what keeps the game interesting imho. Thanks for your comment, and I hope some of what I said is helpful to you as you continue on your Tekken journey.

@@PencilTekken This is great advice. So what is some common fake SS pressure on block do you see? I have a really good Nina in my bracket this weekend so I need to be able to stop her fake pressure. Basically, as long as it's not SS1 on block, I should be jabbing her when she tries to side step? Any string that goes into forward sway can be SS cancelled, which is where this fake Nina pressure comes from?

As a Nina main, I can tell you we don't rely on high attacks but if you were fighting a beginner/intermediate Nina. I could see this
