Its really neat seeing Tekken 2 characters interact with and have the graphics of Tekken 3 characters. Its like looking in an alternate timeline. I doubt this version is on steam, but im sure it can be enjoyed with...other methods.

Yea but only tk3 and tk tag Jin when he’s still fighting Mishima style karate. Not a go to character for me in tekken 4 and forward.

Kazuya's design is so much better here than the PS2 ver especially the hair.

@ICEYOU i dont think it looks better but i wouldnt say it looks worse, yes technically is inferior but i like the low poly easthetic specially running on real hardwork, it would probably look evwn better in a crt with good resolution. I see it as a different look, olso seeing his old win poses here kinda fits them better than the ps2 one but thats just my opinion

As much as I love the look of the game in this engine, I'm not surprised they went forward with the PS2 technology. They were probably ecstatic that they no longer needed to compress character voices/backgrounds/graphics! 🙏

Actually, there were no plans for a domestic version. There was a ps2 TTT because Sony pressed Namco to have a Tekken game in the console launch, after Dreamcast Soul Calibur success, along with a Ridge Racer, in words of KH, they were "ordered" to do it. Needless to explain why the game remained Sony exclusive

PS2 version may be a looker, but arcade version looks and sounds fantastic for PS1-era technology IMO. Also the gameplay is faster, which I dig. :)

Fun Fact: According to Harada, Sega had attempted to make negotiations with Namco to port Tekken Tag Tournament to the Dreamcast, offering a Virtua Fighter character of their choice for free in the game, but the offer was declined. I just found this on the Tekken fandom last night so im very curious what would be this game look like ported to the Dreamcast 😁 Off Topic: And also i was hoping that Cure Black and Cure White as a DLC character in the Tekken series (since i always use them in M.U.G.E.N)

Understandable that they didn't went with this. Tekken was already established on PlayStation and running on PS hardware technology, I bet that Namco didn't want to burn bridges with Sony for money, marketing and business related reasons. SEGA got at least a beautiful port of Soul Calibur for their platform, although Namcos output was meager on the Dreamcast to say at least.

The same thing that happened with Soul Calibur 1. New console with better graphics and extreme compression to make the game playable on the PlayStation. That’s my guess.

@@FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade Apparently the PS didn't have enough RAM memory for multiple characters on screen at once, plus the 3D backgrounds would have been downscaled to 2D images like Tekken 3. It would have been cool to see a PS build of it, if it ever leaks :)

That’s exactly what I have thought! The PlayStation barely couldn’t handle Tekken 3 without some major setbacks. I remember reading somewhere that if Tekken 3 wanted to have the same polygons and 3D backgrounds, the game would have to run at 30fps or lower. Even on real hardware, Tekken Tag Tournament still has some lag. It would be cool to see a PlayStation beta version of TTT but the closest we will ever get to PlayStation style TTT is the arcade version. I’m pretty sure Namco already had some PlayStation 2 development hardware and began working with that hardware.

@@FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade Tekken 3 could barely handle Mokujin. I’m pretty sure the PS1 would melt if it were to handle TTT1. Hell, Mortal Kombat Trilogy on PS1 couldn’t handle tag team without loading after a teammate died. I think that’s what would happen if TTT1 was ported to the PS1.
