Just learning this one and it's proving hard. As an autistic martial artist this kata is the hardest one I've learned so far. Humbly grateful for this video and the help! Thankyou so much.

You really explain these better than the other people out there. While I continue to review my forms as I am just getting back into this after 18 years, you can be sure you played a role in my kata reeducation thank you sir.

Learning this for my brown belt. I have the basic form pretty much dialed in, now I just need to fine tune it, get my movements snappy and powerful, and learn the kiai points! Thank you for your videos, and your time. Hope you’re well, Sensei!

Purple white belt : )
@yangchensun55467 жыл бұрын
@ Simplicitas White belt? I think they only do the Kihon Kata at white belt, and maybe the Heian Shodan as well, but I don't think they do Tekki at this stage. A white belt ie beginner needs a lot of training to condition his arms and legs movements. He's certainly not ready for the more advanced katas.

One of my favourite katas, of those I remember. If memory serves me right, it's been 20 years after all, bassai dai and kanku dai (please excuse any spelling errors) were also a lot of fun and I love that our sensei instructed us in katas well beyond our grades.
@mr.karate79964 жыл бұрын
So do you still do Karate or have forgotten?
@perkristoffersson41534 жыл бұрын
@@mr.karate7996 not really active since the club was closed. And most of my time is spent elsewhere. I do occasionally go through simple routines and refresh my memory regarding the basic katas but Tekki Shodan is the only one I've done full tilt at home. It all comes back rather quickly though for some of it it's not a matter of what move is supposed to be performed or how that move is supposed to be performed but rather actually performing them as I'm far less flexible after so many years of not doing karate.

Learning katas and perfecting the katas are two different things. There are katas that'll take you years to master especially as you move up in rank. Even heian sho-dan; while the moves are basic, it can still take years to absolutely master. You seem to have strong goals though and that's always good.

this is a most excellent explamnation in performing of this kata. the tekki kata series are at once very difficult and very easy. In some ways it is like Taikyoku. it is a simple kata, not a lot of flash but contains infinate insights the more it is practices and applied in goshin-jutsu. Back in the old days Tekki (naihanchi) was taught before the heian (pinan) kata series.

Thank you. Can my daughter go from 4th to 3rd kyu in 3 months? She has just passed her purple two white stripes (4th kyu) and tekki shodan is the next kata to reach brown (3rd kyu). We normally take 3 months to go from one belt to the next and as she's a child she follows each belt with an intermediate. I understand there comes a point where it takes longer than 3 months to grade. We attend kstsk in UK

This was very helpful. Thank you very much for your video. One point of contention though with regard to the transitions, I learned to do rising knee blocks as opposed to the small circle crescent kick blocks i see you doing here..I've also seen other instructors (such as the brilliant Kanazawa Sensei who i have enormous respect for) do this sort of block. Other popular instructors do the rising knee block. Can you clarify this for me please? Thank you very much. Osu!
