relationship between nordic countries (summarized) Sweden is the hipster know-it-all that thinks he's better than everyone. But he also strongly believes that noone is better than anyone else, and thus has a bit of a split personality. Very focused on new technologies and progressive ideas. Norway is hospitable and down to earth. Very focused on nature and outdoor activities, but also produces a lot of petrol. Denmark is super chill and likes to party. It's where all the other nordic countries go to buy beer in... "party quantities". It's worth noting that Dernmark and Sweden both have a history of being bloodthirsty conquerors, and because of this still hold a rivalry to this day. Finland mostly just wants to be left alone. HAving had to live with two power hungry neighbors for century, and next to the USSR during the cold war, has made them a bit reclusive and wary of strangers. But if you manage to get a Finn's trust, you've got a friend for life. Meanwhile, Icelanders are mythical beasts living on a faraway island. Not much is known about them, except that there are a lot of really big dudes over there. (Hafbjorn "The mountain" comes from Iceland, and he's not a unique case. Supposedly, a tribe of really massive vikings decided to settle in Iceland some day and passed on their genes.)

@Arkalidor
@Arkalidor 5 жыл бұрын
@@mohamedlalioui8757 Thorough is difficult. Old nordic legends have been passed down only orally, and christianity put quite some effort into censoring it all, so very few records exist to this day. But I'll suggest Neil Gaiman's "Norse Mythology". It's a collection of stories about nordic "gods", the Aesir and the Vanir, (Odin, Thor, Freya, and of course Loki) and their relationship with the giants, and the convoluted destiny that shall bring about Ragnarok. It's as "true to original" as we can ever get, considering how much knowledge was lost on these matters. Keep in mind that the nordic gods aren't all the folklore there is to explore. Fae creatures like trolls and elves are also a big thing, and I should also mention the legend nibelungen ring, around which Wagner composed an operatic cycle. For those it'll be even harder to find one "origin story", but you will find thousands of "interpretations". In short, there's LOTS to explore about nordic mythology, but very little to which one can point and say "THIS is the oringal legend as it was told back then"

20:02 As a Norwegian, from what experiences I've had with my fellow Nordic countrymen/women and the general held attitudes in the populace of Norway; here's a generalized view of how Norwegians perceive other Nordic countries: Denmark: Our best friend/ brother to south that we see whenever we get the chance. (Also due to their guttural ass language they sound just like Norwegians when we're drunk. We take every opportunity to remind them of this XD.) Sweden: Our slightly annoying older brother that we live next to, whom we have a love-hate relationship with (mostly love) (the hate comes their quiet condescension at our life choices) (life choices=we pump out too much oil) Finland: That one cousin who lives far away, you rarely hangout with and speaks an entirely different brand of gobbledegook , but whenever they arrive you know you're in for an... interesting night... (on a totally unrelated side note, promise no really ;), Finnish people are known for travelling across the Gulf of Finland to Estonia to buy cheap vodka-bottles in THE HUNDREDS.) Iceland: The O.G. of the Nordic countries. Their language and way of life is among all of the Nordic countries that most resembles the old Norse traditions. (The rest of us are keeping up the traditions to, but are being slowly eroded by easy access to English-speaking media and also we aren't islands) (Whenever Iceland shows up to visit they bash us over the head and lightly scold us for such shamefulness.) We totally think they're overreacting, but we also know they are right, so we nod along XD Take for example the only legal way you are allowed to give newborns surnames: Say you were born in Iceland and your father's first name was Ryan. Then you would be only allowed to have the surname Ryansson. Or you could take the first name of your mother as your surname, but that's not very common for men. And finnaly, how do Norwegians see themselves?... well: "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!! NO TIME FOR LOSERS, CUZ WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS......OF ANYTHING SLIGHTLY RELATED TO SKIING!!..... OR OILLLLLL!!!!!!

15:30 Regarding that I always felt Houdi had a quite distorted view of Arlong. While Arlong did believe in fishmen supremacy and enjoyed seeing humans squirm he mainly was motivated by greed. He didn't teach he humans, he didn't wipe the out, he didn't spread his philosophy. He mainly was just content being a greedy warlord. Essentially a mini yonko. For Arlong fishmen supremacy was more so a tool for his own interests than anything he was really passionate about. If Houdy actually saw Arlong, just lazying around on his island and making deals with the human marines he would be disgusted.

I'm excited, but also a little afraid to get to Elbaf, as I'm hoping the Giants are based on Norse Myth directly, and not specifically the Jotnar. But knowing how people outside Scandinavia don't know what Jotnar are, they probably will be. Comparing a Jotun to a Giant, is like comparing a Fairy to a Dragon. They are not the same and I wish people would start realizing this. Also, Finland speaks an Uralic language unrelated to the Scandinavian languages so it's actually not part of the origin of the other nordic countries even if it is one itself.

@@hakkonn8273 "Giant" is a wrong term, which comes from a misconception from long ago. Everytime you hear the word "Giant" mentioned in Norse Myth, you need to replace it with "Jotunn/Jotnar". The word "Giant" is only used to describe the size that some can grow into as they do have varying appearences and sizes, but that doesn't change their race. Like a human can be considered a giant due to how tall he is but he is still a human. So Ymir was the first Jotunn, even if he was giant in size. So you can encounter a giant Jotunn, but that is still a Jotunn who is just taller then most other Jotnar. You with me so far?

For those of us who aren't familiar with Norse mythology, Gungnir is Odin's spear, which has homing abilities for days! Naglfar (made of the nail clippings of the dead) is one of two legendary ships in Norse myths (The other is Skidbladnr, which can hold all of the Aesir and their battle gear; travel on air and on sea; and fold up into a pocket-sized piece of cloth when not in use.) Gerth is likely named for Gerd, who is the giantess wife of Frey.

About time you covered Hajrudin. I was worried this Straw Hat Grand Fleet captains series would stop after you did Cavendish and his Beautiful Pirates. Like everyone else, I am looking forward to the day when the Straw Hats make landfall on Elbaph. Among other things, I'm thinking Chopper, Carrot and Jimbei will learn the truth of why the giants hate Big Mom so much: she killed Chieftain Fall Beard and destroyed the major settlement, and a giant saw Big Mom eat Mother Carmel and the orphans of the Lamb's House.

Norwigan here. To awnser your question yes it's relatively friendly in the nordic countrys. There are some revivaly between some countries. Like Norway and Sweden has a rivalry. Its more of a brother like rivalry. Between Norway and Sweden it has become a comman saying around the winter Olympics where norwigans will say : it's not about winning its about beating the swedis

Fun fact! Back during WWII the Danish used the name of a certain Danish desert as a form of boarder check to keep Germans out Also! So the Nordic countries are mainly defined by when the king of the Nordics was in charge of the Vikings, but the finish were not apart of the culture, this can be mostly be seen in their language, which is closer to the Baltic countries than Nordic Another fact about the Nordic languages, Iceland still uses the same language that was used back during the Viking times! Everyone else has evolved and Norway has gone out of their way to create their own language to distance themselves from the Danish

That type of shield grip was actually a thing with bucklers. And Hajrudin's shield size and shape (except that bucklers have a dome) are pretty similar to a real buckler's.

you were wondering about the relationship between scandinavien countries. im from denmark and my general impression is that its a sort of brotherly relationship at this point x) like we definitely had our fights in the past and we certainly enjoy a good joke at the others expense but generally we're pretty friendly to eachother.

Hey Tekking, the little 'O' with the cross coming out of it just sounds like "TH". It's just a one letter substitute for a sound we use two letters for. The uppercase version looks like a small uppercase D with the flat side extended so it sticks out above and below. Google search for the Thurisaz Rune and that's what the uppercase version essentially is, except modern versions are rounded and use a half circle instead of a triangle.

Hold on, when Dorry and Brogy talked about their ultimate attack against that giant goldfish, they said that only thing they can't cut through is a snake soaked in blood. Were they talking about Kaido? If Kaido is a red dragon, that fits the description of bloody snake pretty well. And it would make sense that he could withstand their attack

Hajrudin's fist shield is actually a buckler and the way he holds it is actually pretty accurate. the way he uses it? kinda sorta accurate.....its more used as defense for your sword hand when using long swords with less protection from a full hand guard but could also be used as a shield punch to disorient the opponent.
@TheYulverick

The little (compared to him) shield that Hajrudin uses is called a Buckler, and was more commonly used around the Medieval era and Renassance, mostly for one-on-one duels. So, although the era doesn't fit within the Old Norse theme of giants in One Piece, the Buckler really does fit the chivalrous, duelist warrior-like personality of Hajrudin himself Pls like so Tekking can see this
