it cost more to recycle these plastic bottles than it costs to make new ones. Return to GLASS bottles, Rinse and reuse they will last for YEARS not days like Plastic ones.

that's a great point. Why not go back to glass bottles? well where i live in Canada plastic grocery bags and straw, any take out items all have to be plastic free now. I am hoping to see the plastic bottles to move away completely also.

As a young teenager (early '70s ) raised in the country we were always taught to be responsible with trash . At that time glass bottles were the choice , they are nearly 100 % natural and !00% recyclable . I have wondered for 60 years how did something that was known to be so bad replace something that was actually a positive . Even if glass is broken it can be melted again sanitarily . It is basically sand . Think about it . The word convenience replaced the word " Garbage "

the answer to your question is weight ..glass bottles weigh allot more than plastic... so transporting plastic is cheaper than glass ..in turn larger profits..most companies do not think about the future... of course "refillable" soda bottles was a whole different set of problems..you would take them to a store to get your deposit ..the bottles would sit for a while and attract bees, ants etc..then they would be transported to the bottling company to be washed and sterilized...refilled and shipped back to the store...

Cheers from New Orleans. I am very very much interested in new uses for discarded plastics. In fact I make lovely little hats, and they are crafted form recycled plastic water bottles, then turned into rich, deep colored felt fabric. I have enormous admiration for developing countries - which are often so much more active and intelligent about using what we in America call 'waste' Great job!!!

The main problem in recycling is that most recyclables are too contaminated with other materials. Especially during the collection process by the waste companies. If we can all keep them separated and clean from after they are used, recycling would work a lot better and effective. 25 years ago, they used to be separated, but scavengers would come and steel them. So they became mixed so it would too much work for scavengers to steal and then sort it themselves. We still get people who steal all the scrap metal and aluminum cans, but not too many as they still have to sort through the other material to get at them.
@zyxw2000
@zyxw2000 7 ай бұрын
Don't know if you're writing from the US. Here there's little to no recycling of plastic because all our recycling plants are privately owned. It's not profitable to recycle plastic, so most of ours gets send to countries in Asia. In many other countries, recycling is done by a government agency, so it doesn't need to be profitable. Glass and aluminum aren't an issue here.
