The sad part is that the Himiway manual lacks info as to general repair, part replacements and general maintenance info. Imo, Tim, the Tinkering Turtle, should be paid by Himiway for producing go-to videos like this, but he simply does it anyway because he's a caring man with a big heart . Hat's-off to the Tinkering Turtle!

Thank you so much for uploading this video. It saved me a world of pain and gave me the independence to service my own electric bike. First time e-bike owner, and knew nothing of disk brakes. I managed to readjust everything myself (the store where I bought it did a pretty ordinary job assembling it.) For a middle-aged woman like me, it's such a boost in confidence. Bike is running beautifully, now; no more tyres rubbing on the break pads, no more squeaking, and the brake handles now feel firmer (not loose.) Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us noobs, in a clear and succinct way. Cheers!

This is what I was looking for. My brakes have suddenly failed on several occasions. Starts with the rear, total sudden loss and I can make it home with just the front brake. Lately the front will fail after the rear fails. A pop noise and total slack. I contacted Vituvia and they sent me a link to your video. Took only minutes to adjust and now I have approx 6 miles without a problem. Thanks for posting this video! Most helpful!

Good Afternoon Tim, My Cruiser was delivered 8 days ago, I have 43 total miles. I did notice my inside front caliper was riding on the brake disc. Your video was excellent and I will made those adjustments this evening. Two days ago I rode 16 miles, and know that I will really enjoy my Himiway Cruiser. My first 3 miles last week the temp was only 14, so didn't want to make any riding mistakes with ice and snow on the roads. Yesterday and today here in Minneapolis south metro, we were 40 degrees, so have been adding up the miles. Thank you again for the spot ON video. And I subscribed. Stay warm everyone, Jack

I actually had a hell of a time adjusting my front brakes out of the box. The pads were rubbing and I used this to help me adjust the brakes. I originally used the clamp method, but either I over tightened the clamp or didn’t tighten enough. Did 4 times with the clamp and the disk was still rubbing. Finally asked the wife to pull the handle and skipped the clamp. That fixed the issue on the first try. Not sure why the clamp didn’t help, but all good now.

Quick tip: if you don't have a clamp for the brake handle you could also use a little rope or shoe lace to wrap around, or a zip tie. And also, instead of tightening the barrel adjuster at the top I would do the adjuster at the wheel first then in future if needed more tightening you could do so at the top. Just a quick tip

Thanks for this! I followed the process a couple of times with my Radwagon 4 but still have some rub and squeak. Any thoughts of whether the problem could be my rotors? (They look fine, but a slight warp would explain the rub)
@TinkeringTurtle Жыл бұрын
Rubs and squeaks are, sometimes, hard to diagnose. It can be a warped rotor, or the pads and rotor could be contaminated with oils. Or both. on one bike I had to replace the caliper before the issue was resolved. And you have done a full adjustment like I show in the video? It seems like the brake sensor is thinking that the brake is activated. If you haven’t done a full adjustment, I would start there. If you have, then you probably need to adjust the sensor. And as I haven’t done that yet, then I would reach out to Himiway support for directions on that adjustment.
@TinkeringTurtle3 жыл бұрын
Make sure you have done the brake adjustment first. A lot of the time this can fix the brake issues. And if that doesn’t work, then get troubleshooting tips from Himiway support.

@CoachGrammy @Jamie Brehm I found this post on one of the Facebook groups. He built a tester and adjusted the brake sensor. It looks like you loosen a Allen set screw and then turn the sensor. I don’t know if this will help, but if you can figure it out it could fix your issues. you wouldn’t need the tester, I just wanted to show the adjustment process. It could be done on the bike. facebook.com/Timwardo/videos/10157556105196734/

Hi Tinkering Tim the Tool Man Turtle! Lol. Like your vids. Very helpful. I'm getting a Himiway Cruiser shortly. I'm pretty good at maintaining bikes so no problems there. One question, how long do you think the brake pads will last under normal riding conditions? If if they do need replacement where are they purchased? How's the bike still holding up?
@TinkeringTurtle2 жыл бұрын
Obviously it depends on terrain and riding style. But I would guess 1500-2000 miles. I have 2400+ miles on my bikes and I will be changing them out this spring before riding. Conventional wisdom/rule of thumb says that when the pads get lower than 1mm they should be changed. For pads I purchased the ones linked below for my bikes. I don’t know a ton about pad materials, so there may be a more appropriate kind based on terrain, riding style, etc.. But these work for me! amzn.to/3qFSHRg

The bike is holding up well, no major issues and over 2400 miles. Have you purchased the cruiser yet?

@@TinkeringTurtle Thanx for the reply. Great info. Yes I purchased Wednesday night. According to FedEx SHOULD be receiving it April 4. So fingers crossed. Thanx to KZbin vids such as yours I feel I've learned everything I need to know as a beginner Ebiker! Will let you know how that goes.

Great subject and I'm sure there are a lot of people that take their bike to the shop for adjustment have just said, " I can do that". Question... and an idea for a video, is there any concern on how to charge the battery? On older rechargeable batteries the suggestion was to run the battery completely down before charging so it didnt develop a "memory". Is that a concern with the Himiway battery?

I have been avoiding doing battery videos. There is a lot of information that would need to be presented and I don’t have the knowledge to do that. But to answer your question (to the best of my limited ability), lithium-ion batteries are not supposed to develop a memory. But that being said it’s a good idea once in a while to run the battery all the way down and charge it back to full. I think.... I wish I could be more confident in my answer, but it’s better if everybody does their own reading on batteries.

@@TinkeringTurtle Thanks for the response. I understand the apprehension on tackling the subject. I will continue to read and see what I can come up with. Thanks again TT :)

I learned to adjust the brakes from your video byt i never saw u adjust the barrelnut down on front caliper tho. I still deal with a little brake noise on front tho
@TinkeringTurtle3 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped. The barrel nut on the handle and caliper do basically the same thing. They artificially extend or shorten the cable cover. So I was able to adjust the top one and get the length I needed. When you run out of adjustment on one, then use the other one. Brake noise can be caused by a number of issues. Contaminations are the most likely cause. I did a video on my Escape showing the process of cleaning the rotor and replacing the pads. This helped me. You can also purchase some brake de-squeak from an automotive store.

Nice video! Adjusting brakes is too confusing and tiresome for me but this really helped me. Thank you!!! My problem now is cutting the wires. What type/brand of cutter did you use?
@TinkeringTurtle3 жыл бұрын
Your welcome, glad it helped! The wire cutter is nothing special, just an Irwin brand wire cutter that I picked up at Lowe’s.
