tsubame gaeshi is "swallow counter;" swallow as in the bird. I'm pretty sure it was named for the swirling motion you do to counter a deashi harai.

I’m so sad to see Fabio get hit with tsubame gaeshi…TWICE, I was really excited for his return, I always said he shouldn’t have gone to 73, his style of play was not suitable for it. Hope he bounces back.

To be fair, Fabio has never been one of the leaders of 66, his 2016 OG run was kind of a surprise with the favourite like Ebinuma (once again in the OG) falling short. His comeback might be complicated but I don't think his loss to Margvelashvili is enough to make a conclusion on his current level. Nevertheless, I'm of the opinion that the top guys of the category are of her higher level than those who dominated it back in the early 2010s. I'm definitely looking forward seeing him against the likes of Abe or Maruyama.

Basile just had shoulder surgery 3 or 4 months ago. When I had a similar surgery they told me I wasn't even allowed to practice Judo for 6 months.

@@conanarthur4358 I was agreeing with you. My reply was more directed at Chadi. I think his shoulder needs more recovery time before we see anything like 2016 Fabio again.

deguchi's arm was injured by Bilodid...i bet it was really hurting her during the gold medal match

Good competition from Deguchi. However, I fear she will never be the same as she was back in 2019 when she ran over the tour, as tough - and that's understandable - her non-selection to the Tokyo Olympic Games had broken her. For a long time, I had seen her as the true heir of Kaori Matsumoto (the last queen of the category) but since the events that occured at Budapest, I feel like she's lost it. I find it saddening because if there is someone I'd want to see at the OG it's her; and she more than anybody else knows that she cannot afford to lose to Jessica Klimkait (the contrary is not as problematic for her rival). That's my humble opinion, I wish her the best and hope she will reach the heights that used to be hers.

Chilard was the latest french man other than Riner to win a grand slam in October 22. But then he tested positive for steroids, so I don't know if that really counts.

The reason the ref is not allowed to touch the player or to provide any medical assistance if it seems necessary after say the latter got choked out is I believe pretty simple rather than stupid. The legislation in different countries is different, should any harm, real or alleged, be caused the consequences are different and sometimes harsh. A so called Good Samaritain Act somewhere exists, somewhere it does not so it is safer to leave a player to his/her own coach/medical team.
