Tel Aviv is building three extensive light rail lines. In this video we view the Red Line testing in Jaffa, around the Salame Station. The light rail vehicles look conservative, slightly dated, but this may be because they need a good washing to get rid of the dust and dirt.

But isn't this line going to be overcrowded from the very first day, especially during rush hours? As it will be the only high-frequency mass transit line to serve an agglomeration of several million inhabitants? If in Jerusalem, where the light rail has trains of similar length, they always get packed in the city center, imagine what could happen in Tel Aviv once the system is open! The alignment of the red line should have been built as a full metro line, as it is going to be the main axis of the public transport system!

Its called "Rush hour" everywhere. This system follows the French tram developments and is impressive. Great they included landscaping.

@@gordonspicer I would have suggested to build as a metro what is currently being built as a light rail, and as a light rail what is now planned to be a metro. Like WHERE is the logic?!!! Areas on the side will be interconnected by a full metro, but the MAIN transportation axis of Gush Dan will be served by mere trams!!! Like normally it is the contrary!!! For example, in Thessaloniki, in Greece, the main transportation axis of the city will soon be served by a full metro (while the city is about 3 times smaller than the Tel Aviv area!!!!!!), and for the areas on the side tram lines are proposed as « feeders » for the metro. THIS is what I would have suggested for Tel Aviv (and if I get it right, this is what should have originally occurred, as the axis Petakh Tikva - Tel Aviv - Yaffo - Bat Yam - Holon was proposed to be a metro, with French rubber-tyre metro trains back in the 70´s, the idea had even got support from Golda Meir!) Yes, I agree, the French are very skilful at building tram systems, I like very much how French cities are being completely transformed by the introduction of all those new Alstom trams, but the same applies for their new metros, like look at what is currently being built in Paris (the new lines 15, 16, 17 and 18), they also include massive landscape redesigning.

Cool. For a few years Tel Aviv would built an automatic BRT System, but the Plans fanished in some kind of mysterious box in the cellar. ;-) Now this light train / Tram System is kind of Cool.

The embedded track sounds like it does not have a rubber vibration isolating boot. The train rumble is very obvious and will reverberate into the nearby buildings - that seems like a real misstep in the design of the system. We have rubber boots around the rails in the embedded track sections in Waterloo and the trains are virtually silent as they glide by at speed.

Why was that traffic signal GREEN when the tram was crossing? You can’t expect drivers to obey signals when the signals give dangerous conflicting information.

The trains waited for 25 minutes for police to arrive to guard the intersection while the trains passed.

I really think totally grade separated trains are better. They can be automated, and have no risk of hitting any cars or pedestrians.

You wish. The American aid represents a minuscule percentage of the gdp in Israel. Not to mention it can only be spent in American military tech, it’s nothing but a stimulus for American military industry and a way to keep one of americas biggest allies from buying foreign military tech. Now away with your ignorance, shoo.

It would be, if they used the billions they get in aid for building infrastructure as opposed to building bombs, terror tunnels, pay salaries of imprisoned mass murderers and terrorists, pay for their own leaders penthouses in Dubai and Qatar. But that’ll never happen as long as there’s apologists like you.
