I just had Somali food again today. Somali food is so slept on its like a big great secret lol. I just reviewed hoyo kitchen in Columbus Ohio where we have the 2nd biggest population of Somali people out side of Minnesota in america. If you haven't tried it please do. East African food is delicious.

Thanks brother. Also, some fun facts, Pasto originated from China NOT Italy which is contrary to popular belief. Marco Polo came across noodles which is Asian cuisine and brought the idea back to Italy. Somalis were part of the spice trade route and were aware of the noodles thousands of years before Europeans were aware of it.

Somali food is not a mix of italian , Indian and Ethiopian . We may have been a little bit influenced by our italian colonisers however, we have our own unique dishes . FYI it isn't a naan or chapati it's Sabaayad . It's my biggest pet peeve when somalis call it "chapati" waryada naga amuusa , dhaqan iyo cuunto oo dadka kale ka duban ayaan leenahay ku qanca somaalinimo and take pride in your uniqueness.

I went today to Jubba, loved it! The owner they interview on here she greeted me as soon as I walked in & was just so sweet! When the guy on here said service non existent, I think that was because they were very busy cooking the food, once they take your order they’re gone, then you hear them cooking in the back! Unfortunately they had no samosa (think that’s how it’s spelled) with the green sauce that they’re talking about on here but it’s ok I’ll be back! They give huge portions & the tea is soo good! I definitely recommend this restaurant & will soon be back! & the 2 others on here I will have to try next!

Humans have this weird habit of grouping foreign things with what they know. We Somalis and our food is new to most westerns so they clump our looks with Arabs and credit all our food to others. Yes our food is influenced by others due to our location but not all of it! Our anjeero is not like the Ethiopian anjeero at all! Completely different.

I think when it comes to food service is a western capitalist idea. I'm Somali and my first job as a teenager was watering at a fancy restaurant in a white community. Not only I had no idea of what I was doing but I didn't even know most of the food ingredients and the food itself. However, my attitude and my approach to these rich customers compensated for my cultural deficiencies. I saw them as my guests and treated them accordingly.
@yahya_abdi25574 жыл бұрын
The anjeero doesn't come from Ethiopia we have our own canjeero which is very deferent test,shape ,everything and also anjeero is the first traditional food of Somalia so the owner of juba made that mistake and every food you saw in the restaurant is somali food there's no any other countries food I don't know why she said that [am somali ]

Yeah I'm really unhappy about that...I need to have a word with hooyo when I visit inshallah. I mean some spices we use are from India as we traded with them centuries ago but that's as far as it goes. It's Somali cuisine
