Thank you for this series. I run a Gavotte like that as my daily driver, completely cleaned, recapped and repaired of course.

What a beautiful set. Thankfully, amazingly, no cigarette burns on top. Looking forward to the restoration.

No, this was a cigarette free home. Fortunately.

What an absolute little beauty! Doesn't appear to have been messed with too badly, nothing missing or broken and the dust suggests it's been kept in a dry environment. I'll follow this one with great interest.

I have a Telefunken Gavotte 57 awaiting restoration, so I'm not sure how I missed this series, but it should be very helpful. Found it in an antiques mall in Paducah, KY- *with its turntable*- about 22-23 years ago. It's still a fully-working turntable. Both were, and are, in very good condition. Its power supply capacitors died before I ever felt comfortable working inside a tube/ valve device, love them though I may. Boy did that thing sound great. Many thanks for this!

Hello again. Another German set needing your expertise and t l c. I like watching your work on these German radios and the museum must have admired your work in order to donate this set to you. I can't wait to see the rest of this series. Stay safe and well and keep up the good work. Cheers Chris.

Lucky you! It a beautiful a Telefunken multi band radio. I have Grundig Majestic from 1965, that I picked up in Germany when I served there in the US Army. I've kept it in pristine condition all these years that it need no restoration. I realize that I should up grade the electronics But I can't bring myself to touch it. The German use top quality parts.

They sure did, and these radios last for ever if well cared for. Be careful of leaky capacitors though.

Well deserved! Your videos check all the boxes. My favourite small radios are the Braun SK's and the Philetta series from Philips.

I'm new to your channel and have now watched three of your videos. Fine work and I am impressed! I have subscribed. Why only 9.1K subscribers? New channel? I'll spread your site in our community here in the US to help build up your subscriber count. The area you live in is beautiful. I'm jealous. - Tom

Hi Tom The below 10K subscribers may be in the great wizards interest. He has sworn an oath to finally reveal His Face when exceeding that point, I can sense nervous sweat behind the mask.🤣

Manuel, Looks like a fun radio. As purchasing radios for restoration for your channel is expensive, perhaps you can become a radio archivist for the museum wouldn't that be a challenging and rewarding avenue of endeavor.
@electronicsoldandnew4 жыл бұрын
That may be a great idea 😊 Endless radios to restore, and not having to find more excuses to convince my wife that I simply must store another radio in the house 😊
@mackfisher44874 жыл бұрын
@@electronicsoldandnew Perhaps you can auction off some of your collection, eBay prices for restored radios seem to have no ceiling. Trade one working radio for four broken radios, again kidding aside thanks for letting me look over your shoulder.

So first you are sponsored by a pcb manufacturer, then a radio museum sends you radios to repair. Next thing you know Mr Carlson will be asking for help with his projects. :)

I’m hoping for a sponsorship from NASA next. Mr Carlson... don’t think so. That guy is more informed than Google 😊

Shipping from Germany to Madeira is actually quite reasonable (35€). Shipping out of here is a different story 😃

I can appreciate the filth to fantastic - it can be a big part of the "YES!" factor. I'm am working towards making my own test equip for the same thing. Sure you can buy cheaper then build, but where is the sense of accomplishment doing that ? I am confident you'll do a wonderful job on this one Manuel ... no pressure :-}

Just in case somebody is curious abou the name of this radio: (Wikipedia): The term gavotte for a lively dance originated in the 1690s from Old Provençal gavoto (mountaineer's dance) from gavot, a local name for an Alpine resident, said to mean literally "boor", "glutton", from gaver (to stuff, force-feed poultry) from Old Provençal gava (crop).

Please could you tell me where I could find a bracket to hold the radio chassis like the one you use in the video ? Thanks for your answer. It is very important for me

The only problem with Polystyrene capacitors is that if they get hot...which they are likely to do in a Vacuum Tube (Valve) radio, they will change capacitance and not return to the original value. Otherwise, they are very stable and reliable capacitors!

Looks this one does not have a mains-isolated power supply, looking at the "Gefahr" (=danger) warnings at the pickup and speaker connections on the back side. So be very careful with it, as you normally are. Also this radio does not appear to have a ferrite bar antenna as most radios of this period would have.
@electronicsoldandnew4 жыл бұрын
This one does have a transformer. It’s in the side. The “danger” signs are pretty generic. This one relies on an external antena.
