Smart use of gear! The poor man's spectrum analyzer works great and costs nothing if you have a basic scope and sweeping signal generator. Hope you will show us a full alignment of a more complex multiple if stage radio in the future using this method. Great work!

I will certainly try. Its more fun this way. Also, doing things the same way all the time gets a little boring, so one has to try and be a little creative.

Thank you! This helped me align my Tandberg Sølvsuper 4F from 1946, first use of my new oscilloscope and function generator. Love your channel, learning alot from you.

Wow. I had been on the fence about ordering an oscilloscope but after watching this, I promptly ordered one. So, yeah, I can tell my wife it's your fault. LOL. Yet another excellent sir. Thank you!

Hi, are you displaying the external trigger signal in channel 1 or the external is not displayed and it is only used as a trigger? Thank you.
@electronicsoldandnew
@electronicsoldandnew 6 жыл бұрын
TutoElectro : it’s been quite a while, but I think I only used it as a trigger. On other experiments I used it as one of the inputs and used that channel as a trigger.

Mr. Caldeira; how do you connect the ground clip at the probe of your scope to the radio. The scope is earth grounded at the power plug whereas these radios are chassis grounded (floating ground). Do you use a DC blocking capacitor in series with the ground clip to protect the probe and scope in case there is a dead sort in the chassis. I guess a similar situation exists for the signal generator.
@electronicsoldandnew

No, I connect the ground to the chassis in all cases unless it’s a hot-chassis set. Then you need to be very careful. I use an isolation transformer to avoid problems.

Thank you. I just wanted to get an expert opinion before connecting the brand new scope to the radio.

So could you select an IF frequency, peak it, and then align to that? 🤔

forgive my dumb question....when you perform such a procedure,should the radio be on...i know it sound dump but i'm just a hobbyist ...thanks
@electronicsoldandnew

mountainhawk : yes. You want the signal to be passing through as it would under normal operation. Be careful of high voltages. Don't get zapped - it can kill you.

If channel 1 of your signal generator is going to a point on the radio, where is the cable from channel 2 on the generator going?
@electronicsoldandnew
@electronicsoldandnew Жыл бұрын
If you mean when I do the alignment, it goes from the sync output to channel 2 of the scope.

@@electronicsoldandnew Thanks for the reply and we all appreciate your videos explaining everything however I am still confused, in the video you explain that there is a jack on the back of the generator that goes to the trigger input of your scope, if your saying that channel 2 output of the generator is going to channel 2 of the scope, I do not see any connection to channel 2 of your scope in the video? I have a hantek digital scope here and also just ordered a Rigol DG1022U signal generator and wish to perform a visual alignment but want to learn exactly how the hookups go.
@electronicsoldandnew
@electronicsoldandnew Жыл бұрын
I didn’t explain clearly, my apologies. The second channel of the signal generator is not used. The trigger output is taken from the back of the signal generator and fed either to the trigger input of the scope, or to the second channel of the scope and the scope is then triggered from this second channel.
