As a US Contract worker myself I would look forward to that opportunity. Frontline service roles are what folks focus on, but modern war is driven by an enormous logistical & support footprint, and that in going to be important, particularly when looking at the short-to-longterm reshaping of the Ukrainian military into a NATO standard fighting force capable of securing Europe from future Russian aggression. Aircraft especially need pretty substantial technical support functions a mile long.

North Korea claimed that the ballistic missile launch reported the day before by South Korea was in fact a "successful" test aimed at securing multiple warhead missile capabilities, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Wednesday. "On the 26th, the Missile General Bureau successfully conducted a test of separation and guidance control of an individual mobile combat unit [warhead], which is of great significance in achieving the goal of advancing missile technology," the agency said, noting that the purpose of the test was to enable reaching the targets with "multiple warheads." Previously, North Korea sent more than 250 balloons filled with trash over its border with South Korea following the reported ballistic missile launch just hours before.

North Korean embassy closures point to struggle and starvation. An impending domestic food crisis is behind the decision. For a country that priorities spending on its military and luxury goods for its elites, a food shortage would stretch limited resources even further. A North Korean foreign ministry spokesperson said in a statement that ‘we are carrying out operations to withdraw and establish diplomatic missions in accordance with changing global environments and national foreign policy’. But the likely reality is that the regime is struggling to support not only those living in North Korea but also those in missions abroad. In areas along the Chinese border, the situation has gotten so bad that the government has resorted to draconian measures and tougher restrictions to prevent its citizens from fleeing. A second North Korean famine within a generation could have devastating social and political impacts.

Russia’s natural gas production rose by 9.1% in January-May 2024 year-on-year to 254 bln cubic meters, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported. In particular, gas production in May amounted to 44 bln cubic meters, which is 4% lower than in April, and 10.9% higher than last May. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) production totaled 14.8 mln tons in the reporting period, up by 4.5% compared with the same period in 2023. In May, LNG production equaled 3 mln tons, which is 2.9% higher than in May 2023, and 4.3% higher than in April 2024. Associated petroleum gas production added 3.3% in the reporting period to 45.3 bln cubic meters, Rosstat said. That brings Russia’s aggregate gas production (natural and associate petroleum) to 299.3 bln cubic meters in January-May 2024, up by 8%. Russia’s Energy Ministry said earlier that gas production in the country was preliminarily projected at around 667 bln cubic meters in 2024. In 2023, Russia’s gas output lost 5.5% compared with 2022 to 636.9 bln cubic meters. According to the ministry’s base-case outlook, Russia’s gas production will increase to 666.7 bln cubic meters in 2024, to 695.4 bln cubic meters in 2025, and to 707.5 bln cubic meters in 2026. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects Russia’s gas production to rise by 5% in 2024 to 670 bcm.

The Dutch TTF benchmark for European gas prices has seen a significant drop in February 2024, falling below €25/megawatt-hour (MWh), reaching levels last seen during the summer and marking a steep decline of over 50% compared to the same period a year ago. This drop reflects a broader trend influenced by a mix of climatic and economic factors, including warmer-than-average temperatures across the Northern Hemisphere and a notable decrease in both industrial and domestic demand for natural gas. A mild winter, particularly in France and Germany, which are experiencing their third and fourth warmest winters in 34 years respectively, has contributed to the subdued demand for heating. European natural gas storage levels are currently at new five-year seasonal highs, with the EU's gas reserves at 65.9%, Germany at 71.56%, Italy at 60.3%, and France at 51.3%, according to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe' (GIE)s Aggregated Gas Storage Inventory (AGSI).

What's the likelihood of many American contractors deciding to go to Ukraine to fight in frontline operations? Probably low. In Afghanistan and Iraq contractors were providing security of senior officials, embassy staff, etc as well as supporting intel, signals, and maintenance. 'Contractor' is a broad category. They were not participants in the Battle of Fallujah. As F-16 pilots w/o the electronic warfare countermeasures and AWACS support? Also unlikely. Flying a Boeing or Airbus airliner is far safer and pays well enough. In Iraq we saw many US truckers transporting supplies until they were targeted. Most quit and were replaced by truck drivers from Turkey and the Middle East.

I lived and worked as a US military contractor on one of America's many military bases in Europe!!! We have an AMAZING STRONG MILITARY PRESENTS IN GERMANY, ITALY, AND THE UK!!!! Please God let our boys do their jobs!!! SET THEM FREE AND THIS WAR IS OVER TOMORROW. I'm retired but I want to go back because I spent 37 years living on a base in Germany, but I have been to every base in Europe!!!!! Let our boys do their job!!! We need a win after our loses in the Middle East. I watched it all from the 1989 wall tear down.....

At what point does war profiteering become less important than the people of an entire country?? Zelensky is there to secure those profits for those US based war profiteering corporations.. The US is an out of control Oligarchy/Plutocracy rouge state.. The US people don't want this war, & they don't support the war in Gaza either.. As long as they're is profits to be made as far as the US Oligarchy/Plutocracy is concerned, all else is secondary.. If the US & NATO really cared about Ukraine like they say... Then why didn't they just accept Ukraine into NATO & the EU?? Yeah yeah.. Sure.. blah blah blah.. Gee I wonder why.. 🤌🤔🤌 This is propaganda garbage..

The daily dose of propaganda from Ukraine. Like all propaganda, one needs to take it with a grain of salt. Remember - it is illegal to go against official government propaganda in Ukraine. Political opposition is illegal. All rival political parties have been shut down. Only those praising and supporting Zelenskyy and his actions are allowed to speak.

The idea of Trump potentially trying to force Ukraine's hand to hand over its land is mortifying, and in any functional society that ought to be political "sudoku". No one but Russia is served with such a move

the country its it's people , not land. Security of citizens should be more important than some buildings... I guess it's other way around for pshychopaths.

@@dimas3829 such an outcome is about much more than colours on a map. A moved border will mean absolute suffering for those thrown under the bus, and Russia gaining ground is virtual guarantee that it will attack again. A peace in such terms is no peace, but a chance for Russia to consolidate before continuing its bloody war. So, a continued fight is about caring for people in the long run, and I don't appreciate such ad hominems
