Ordered this and got it in the mail today. I'm not disappointed. Came back to say it's a great product, simply for show, practice, and appearance. It's very lightweight, so I wouldn't recommend it at all for self-defense, but... Hey... It'll definitely impress your friends. How often do they see collapsible swords, right? The hilt and blade are all perfectly sized, and yet it somehow remain compact. I've been carrying this thing on me all day. A very fine addition to my collection.

A bit of a dumb question, but are there other types of telescopic swords out there? I've practiced western style fencing in my teens and was thinking of picking it up again. Was considering having something for self defense or easy to carry in case of being assaulted. I was wondering if there was a telescopic sword more suited to my fencing style or if the Tai Chi sword was the only telescopic one?

There probably is a few more telescopic swords out there. We only go for the tai chi sword because its one of the best quality telescopic tai chi swords you can get. We haven't really looked for other styles.

So I’m not a sword person I’m an actor and we need a retractable sword prop that also is used in stage combat so it still needs to be serviceable as hitting other weapons will it break or do you have any other suggestions.

our telescopic tai chi swords are retractable but wouldn't be great for hitting other weapons with force, you will most likely you will need something from a specialist prop store

I used to practise with one of these purely for convenience when I lived some distance from a park and would run there and back. However, really they are too light and small for main practice jian.

Hey man, these would not be good for self defence. The metal is very thin, so it can fit inside itself. If you hit it against stuff, the metal will dent and it won't slide together well. Best for solo practice

Here in California, In Sacramento California, I was insulted and abused socially. My Telescopic Tai Chi sword was labelled as a "Leaded Cane".......Five years of illegal probation later...here I am. Not joking, be careful, so many ignorant abusive officers and officials will not listen to reason in that area. The item was in it's case, in my backpack, which was on my back cinched closed, and clipped closed.....so even if I had it at hand, it would have never been a danger to anyone. So do what you can and represent the ancient arts well, some officers need challengers mentally and physically in a non combative way.
