Television Affair 16: The Box + Network and Emap/Bauer and Channel 4

This week we're looking at the Box + Network, it's history and the channels that are currently on air, along with the ones that are'nt.
The box Plus network was once owned by the video jukebox network in the early 1990s and at that point was based in the US. They launched a UK Version but in the early 00s, the owners Emap, had sold the US version to MTV.
Emap launched some new TV channels named after their radio stations and magazines they owned. Part 1 looks at Kiss, The Box, Q, heat, The Box Fufront, and 4 music. it was sold to BAUER and then Channel 4
This episode and the next also looks specifically into the Kiss brand and associated RADIO brands... yes I am talking about my favourite thing in this episode - doing the thing my family had to put up with for a very long time, and still do with my partner and my kids now.

Would be interesting to see a video on all the other music channels at some point. For example, all of the MTV channels (Dance/M2/Base/R/VH2/Flux) as well as the likes of Bubble Hits/Chart Show/Rapture and what have you. Keep it up Johnny. Absolutely love your videos.

'The same video will not play back to back' It would in the earlier cable version. A modem, a well-crafted ATDT command with a 30 second pause and a free request number proved that :)

It would be cool, just for one day if The Box could go back to a video jukebox format with modern music. You could do it through email, or social media and have it shown on screen. Just a shame it isn't like that. I'm also really sad about Kerrang potentially going this year too, as someone who is obsessed with rock and metal, and more specifically a mix of modern and older rock/metal music, much like Scuzz when it went, I'll miss Kerrang too. I know that "Now Rock" exists, but the output on the channel is hit and miss in polite words, in vulgar words, it's fairly crap as they seem to hurl out loads of the older stuff and there's not much of a mix between the really new stuff and the really old stuff. PS: I do wish that Kerrang played some stuff by Garbage, I love their music.

The channel started in 2008, however 4Music was a strand on channel 4 before becoming it's own channel. Not much about it other than a mention from Moby.moby.com/news/4music-on-channel-4-uk/

I don’t know why Bauer bother with the Hits Radio brand. Should have rolled out Kiss instead, more brand awareness. And GHR should have reverted back to Magic. A bit cheaper, surely?!

I think there's a few reasons in regards to hits, but the main one is that Hits is current pop music where kiss is dance and R&B, so they are different formats. Similarly for Magic, it's a different format to GHR, I think it's more aimed at females
