Back in the 80's there was an agency called Public Works Department. When Jamaica was getting involved with the IMF the government was instructed to close some agencies. PWD was one such agency. There were branches in the major town of each parish. So, each parish had like about 4 locations and they were in charge of road works. Those days roads were fixed with crushed stones and not marl. Crushed stones and real tar. Those were the best roads. These days it is all about fluxy road work. KMT and SMH

So the Court of Appeals overruled the Supreme Court’s decision?? 👀🤔 .. So, let me understand this, Her tenure had ended, then it was extended and now she still wants another extension?? Why should this be granted? Why is this okay? The public needs to be thoroughly informed as to why it is of such importance for this DPP to remain at the helm!! Under this administration is where transparency and accountability go to die!
@Starlink_Speedtest9 күн бұрын
I'll just inform you of what occurred. Based on your post, you seem a bit misinformed. The retirement age for Jamaica's Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was extended from 60 to 65 through a constitutional amendment in 2023. This change was intended to allow the current DPP, Paula Llewellyn, to continue serving beyond her original retirement age. However, in April 2024, the Constitutional Court ruled that this amendment was unconstitutional, effectively preventing the extension of Llewellyn's tenure. The government appealed this decision, and on December 20, 2024, the Court of Appeal overturned the earlier ruling, declaring the amendment constitutional. This verdict allows Paula Llewellyn to resume her duties as DPP and continue serving until the new retirement age of 65.
@RadicallySaved939 күн бұрын
Hold up, you mean to tell me that you’ve only sought to regurgitate what the news/Dionne clearly stated, without answering any of the questions posited... for what really?? Moreover, am I to take it that you are unable see anything wrong with the initial text of the constitution being revised so as to keep this one individual at the fore, even after reaching the retirement age and had previously been granted an extension to remain at the helm? As a matter of fact, the subject was granted 3 additional years to remain as the DPP under the initial text of the constitution, which means, at the end of the said 3 years the subject would have to demit office. Therefore, the amendment to the constitution would then be what the new DPP would be governed by, and as such, serve until the age 65! To be clear, the problem is that they amended the constitution while the subject was granted the extension, under the rules of what was the previous text of the constitution and that’s why the Supreme Court ruled against the subject asking for yet another extension under the new/amended constitution. The system is being gamed to keep some in power which is sad!
