sisreid. Believe it or not, you are number 4 on my bucket list. It says meet Brenda Reid, one of the all time best voices ever. Will never forget the first time I saw the Exciters. I think it was either in queens or Long Island. I already loved the group but seeing you in person was unbelievable. Already knew how good you sounded but the moves were so much cooler than other groups. I was so impressed. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories. Thank god for KZbin. At least we can see and hear you again.

Thank you Brenda for blessing the world with your voice all these years. How many times songs like this and others from that era have lifted my heart a really couldn’t begin to say. Just singing about love, real love from the heart and the joy and sorrow it brings . Oh, that the music were still so wholesome, original and passionate .

One of the most perfect records ever made. The Exciters also recorded the original version of "Do Wah Diddy", which was covered by Manfred Mann. They also did the original "He's Got The Power", which was regendered and covered by Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders. They also did a great version of the Jarmels' "A Little Bit Of Soap" on Bang Records. Best of all, this song was an integral component of the plot line of the vastly underrated "Ally McBeal" television series from 1997-2002. Great stuff!

secretcloud, I'm a white female who remembers this music from way back. I never could understand why the same people who made such great music were denied civil rights in their own country!!!! Black Americans' contributions to modern music have been disproportionate to their numbers. I love them.
@Emondotcalm2 ай бұрын
@coralarch, Yeah (posting this in Oct. 2024) I'm a 71 year old white guy that always gravitated to the black music and musicians. I must have been 7-8 when this song came out and it's thoroughly embedded in my DNA!! I've often wondered what American music would sound like if it weren't for the Africans... Lawrence Welk!!??? The African's contribution to music is immeasurable! Most notably they were a huge influence on the Beatles who took the black influence and ran with it evolving into something totally unique.

One of my Grandad’s favorites. He told me the story of how on a stormy night in 1968, my grandma turned on this record as a subtle way of letting him know she was interested in him. He took the hint. This song has a piercing sound like no other. From the opening notes to Brenda's exciting voice, earns the group's name, "The Exciters". I remember this as a twelve year old in NYC. I'm glad this song keeps popping up as it did in "Cloverfield, Glee, etc. A true classic. It should have been used in "Dirty Dancing", since it fits the time period.

I was 5 years old when this song came out but it's embedded in my memory as one of the 1st songs that the melody just stuck in my mind. The title didn't ring any bells, but as soon as I heard the music I was like: "Ooohhh yeah! THAT song! Fascinating that a video of this song was shot back when there wasn't any platform to air music videos. Maybe the occasional variety TV show. Can't help but notice that the music arrangement is more "pop" than R&B. A real "under the radar" classic. Stangely what brought me to this site was the revelation that this group toured with the Beatles on their 1st U.S. tour. I had no idea. Glad I found this out.

Wow. The director of this clip spends about 65% of the song focusing on the Exciters and about 35% focusing on various animals. Here is what the breakdown should be. About 99.8% on the Exciters, and about 0.2% on the animals. The animals are fine, but we've all seen footage of animals before. It is rare and wonderful to see this band in action. Brenda Reid's voice in this song launched a million female soul singers and rockers.

Steve G so true. I saw them live a couple of times back in the sixties. They were unique in that they had moves that were cooler than almost any other group of the time. I know something about love You've gotta want it bad If that guys got into your blood Go out and get him If you want him to be The very thought of you Make you want to breathe Here's the thing to do [Chorus] Tell him that you're never gonna leave him Tell him that you're always gonna love him Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now I know something about love, you gotta show it and Make him see the moon up above Go out and get him If you want him to be always by your side If you want him to only think of you [Chorus] Tell him that you're never gonna leave him Tell him that you're always gonna love him Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now Ever since the world began, it's been that way for man And women were created to make love their destiny Then why should true love be so complicated, oh yeah? I know something about love You gotta take his hand Show him what the world is made of One kiss will prove it If you want him to be always by your side Take his hand tonight, swallow your foolish pride [Chorus] Tell him that you're never gonna leave him Tell him that you're always gonna love him Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now Oh, you have to go now (Tell him that you're never gonna leave him) oh, yeah (Tell him that you're always gonna love him) yeah (Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now) Don't you let him go, now (Tell him that you're never gonna leave him) oh, yeah (Tell him that you're always gonna love him) yeah (Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now) [Fade] Just take his hand in yours and tell him

I saw this back in the early 60's on a jukebox in the enlisted men's club of the Willow Grove airbase. They had a small screen attached to the top of the juke, and certain songs would show up as videos on the screen. This was th only real "video" I remember, the others by Bobby Vee, the Shirelles, etc. were stage performances.
@FriendlyRambler10 жыл бұрын
I remember the song from my childhood, but I never got to see the video until now. Wish I had seen one of those jukeboxes!
@fxo36910 жыл бұрын
FriendlyRambler They were just regular jukes, Seeburg, Rockola, etc. The screens were flat like today's TV's, and mounted on top of the jukebox. I only saw the one, but my mother said that back in the WWII era a lot of the jukeboxes had what were called "soundies", videos of the artists singing the song. For a good example of this, stay on KZbin & search Louis Jordan doing "Caldonia".

Dick Clark produced a musical variety show for about two years in the mid sixties featuring many of the popular music groups of the day; it was entitled "Where the Action Is". it was ABC that ran it on television in the late weekday afternoons. Since this song was released in 1963 I don't think it would have been featured there but there were many, many popular groups, black and white , that I watched on the show, including James Brown, The Shangri-La's, Joe Tex, Mary Wells.
