Hi Catalina, what do you think is the best way for an adult to learn Spanish? My school can't afford translators for conferences, and it's unfair to the parents who don't speak English. Would love to know what you think?

Hi 👋🏽! I completely relate to this. When I was in high school, my parents didn’t speak English and parent teacher conferences were tough. It generally ended up being me translating the best I could in my little English at the time. There are different online courses you can take, I would love to create one for adults and I love your idea of maybe focusing also on teachers to help them with parent teacher conferences. I have a few friends that have decided to follow different channels to learn different languages. Consistency is the key. When I was in a face to face school I volunteered to help during those conferences and now in virtual colleagues also teach out when translation is needed :). It is such a hard situation if there are no Spanish speakers at your school. Thank you so much for your comment, you’ve sparked lots of ideas for us here.

What about reflexives? How would you do that?

Great question. To use reflexive pronouns when using negative informal commands, you will put the reflexive pronoun in front of the verb. For example: No te levantes tarde.

How about the verb that is irregular only at the Yo conjugation like venir:vengo, hacer:hago, poner:pongo. Do they become no vengas, no hagas, and no pongas?

Of course Leonard! Suggestions always appreciated. We are working on vocabulary little by little and adding as we go. We have now finished a lot of the grammar lessons for Spanish 1 and we are starting with the vocabulary for Sp1 while continuing on grammar for Spanish 2 topics.

Great question! No fumes with the “s” is a negative INFORMAL (Tú) command. You can say no fume, however, that would be a negative FORMAL (Ud.) command. I would say no fumes to a family member or friend but no fume to someone I don’t know or someone I want to be formal with.
