It's a box that can be used for both optik tv and pik tv. They like to streamline and use one box for any service while being more advanced than the old boxes with Google assistant

I really like this andriod TV box. I received mine this week. Before this I was using fire TV. And while the fire stick is good. It can be very clunky and slow. This telus Android box is a lot faster. So much quicker than my fire stick 4k. I have not had TV service in many years. Because to me it was pointless. But I am liking it again.

I have just received this box and remote from telus. I pay for digital recording. This new system stores your recorded programs in the cloud. It doesn't seem to come with instructions on how to manage your recorded programs. I was hoping to learn this from your video.

Can you use the box on a different Telus internet connection? We currently have 2 Telus internet, one of them has the Optik TV but wanted to use it on the other internet connection. Thanks.

There is no built in PVR, all PVR recordings are in the cloud.

There are on screen prompts to configure the remote. If you have a newer TV with remote control over HDMI called CEC, it's instant.

I was with Shaw for 15 years and they were relatively ok until Rogers took over . I was sick of the 🐂💩 so I switched too Telus optik . I figured I'd give them a try for 6 months or so . The problems I have with optik are way way way more than Shaw . It's mostly the format and how if your watching a t. Program and pause to go to the Bathroom, when you come back , it can glitch and you'll lose the whole spot . If it wasn't for the Telus people on the helpline , I would have cancelled already . The streaming process is glitchy often enough and I have to unplug it at least once a week . At this rate I might have to bite the bullet and go back to Shaw . The devil you know , right ?

Is it possible to wake this box without using the power toggle? So if its sleeping can i hit home, or ok and it will wake? Just curious.

Yes, pressing Guide, Home, OK, Netflix, or Amazon buttons wake it up.

@@montys8237 You can enable or disable system sounds, or set surround sound to auto or off. That's it.

You can use them as streaming boxes for the popular streaming services. You could sell them, or return them to Telus for free at any Canada Post outlet.

Why wouldn’t you recommend it? I’m honestly sick of the old Optik system at this point, too many missing streaming services and poor search system. Feel like it was well overdue for Telus to roll out a new Optik TV system with how far behind the old one has gotten compared to Shaw’s current system.

@RyDawg it's radically different from optik. Functions that were on the remote, you will have to find on screen, and I mean find. On line tutorials were lacking. Recordings only save for 45 days. No option to add time to recordings. Had to get telus to enable recording. Seems like everything is being pushed to subscription including options. Box has been glitchy. I get the impression this was pushed out without proper testing. Wish I still had optik boxes. This system is more for the provider than the user.

Can only PVR when live, so if you pause for a moment then decide to PVR, you have to jump to live and then it will only record the remaining portion. Pause is only 15mins. Not much for info. Just description of the show. No date or cast info.

Talked to telus yesterday after another outage, its telus + and works off your wifi. Thought we had decent wifi, but it's obviously not good enough for this streaming. This version is their 4.0. Asked to get the 4k boxes back that run off Fibre optic. Said they needed to cancel the service, before it let's them open window to book a technician. So service is canceled, no TV, and earliest available appointment is six days and there is no way to keep telus+ running till technician arrives. Which seems like another bug. Best can hope for is a cancelation to install optik 3.0. Poor roll out and I think they know as they didn't balk at us switching back. Canceling is a problem as we are just starting 2 year contract.
