Well we all start somewhere, I do most of my work with a mechanic and sometimes wood pencils that you would buy for school. Also I use a tissue or a piece of paper if I dont have a blending stump. You can also fold a paper at least 3 times (hotdog style) to use as a straight edge if you don't own a ruler. You just have to start.

It depends on what you want to do with your artwork. One of the main reasons pencils like Faber Castell Polychromos, Caran D'Ache Luminance, and Derwent Lightfast (and even Prismacolor Premier) are so expensive is that not only do they contain more pigment on average than Crayola, but that pigment is considered lightfast. That means the color, under museum conditions, will last 50, 100 or more YEARS without fading or changing. If you keep your Crayola artwork in a sketchbook that will see little light, then the colors should last a decent amount of time. I have no idea how long a Crayola drawing would last hung up on a wall, but definitely you would want to keep it (and any artwork) out of direct sunlight.

@@user-uv9zr8qs2c You really don’t need to be a professional, it’s just about skill and technique. If your technique isn’t good then the drawing is inevitably going to turn out worse since you need to put more work in for cheaper pencils. More expensive pencils just mean it takes less work to create smooth results.

I love the analytical narration of your thought process when discussing what you are doing. I can really get an idea of where your mind is when drawing and analysing the shape. You are clearly a more factual person than feeling. I think a lot of art has turned very emotional, but this really brings home why art and science used to be connected as it truly is the capture and analysis of how light behaves on the surface of different objects.

It doesn’t matter what kind of art supplies you are using, so long as you have talent Me with my pencil trying to figure out how to draw a straight line
@MrsBarnabas
@MrsBarnabas 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, S&S. Have you figured out your straight line thing yet? If not, first we play a game: honestly - this will help!!! First, close your eyes and touch the end of your nose. Did you miss the end of your nose? A few people do, but if you did, try again without trying so hard. Next, close your eyes and clap your hands together. Did your hands miss each other? Next, close your eyes and touch the tip of your right index finger (the one we use to point with) to your left index finger. Keep doing this till you are hitting the two together regularly. Have you started giggling yet, or do you just think I'm mad? Either reaction is normal. Giggles are better, btw, but next ... Next, put your non-writing finger tip on the paper where you want your line to end. Using your writing hand, put that index finger on the place where you want the line to start. Close your eyes. Take that finger fast across the paper to meet the other finger. Don't try too hard - just do it! If you try too hard, you won't get that straight line. Just do it - fast! Keep doing it till you're hitting the other finger tip regularly. By now, you should be 'hitting the target' most of the time. Now you can pick up you pencil. Yes, really!!! :D Put your other index finger where you want the line to end. Put the pencil point lightly where you want the line to start. Close your eyes and quickly and lightly, take the pencil point to meet the index finger. Now look at what you've done. If it's not a very straight line, or you missed, do the same thing till it is - and don't stress! It will come - honestly!!! BUT: it will not be a ruler-straight line BUT it will be a perfectly acceptable straight line. A final note: There are no straight lines in nature. Straight lines are man-made. There are no perfectly straight lines in non-abstract art. For example, the side of a house, a window frame, a roof top - none of these are perfectly straight. ***So long as what you have drawn is reasonably straight when you look at it from the distance of looking at a painting on the wall, it's good enough.*** Never use a ruler, because we usually make really hard lines with rulers and pencils and they just don't look right. Just keep practising this - and giggle at the same time!!! It's the giggles that make you relax and relaxed people can draw adequately straight lines using this method!!! Bon chance!

@happy vibes 😊❤️ " and leaving the art work" Anything we do to make marks on paper, in whatever we use (pencil, pen, coloured pencil, charcoal, paint, etc) is art work! Don't put yourself down!!! If you love to draw, then draw, and don't worry about anything, or anyone else. When I was out painting one day, and sitting at a huge window in an RSPB nature reserve to paint the beautiful scene in front of me, a man said, "I wish I could paint." "Why don't you?" I asked. "Because I'm colour blind." "Why does that stop you?" I asked. "Black and white and shades of grey make beautiful works of art, too." By now, there were several people listening in. The man looked very doubtful. "How can it?" he asked. I dug out my sketch book and showed him a pen and wash drawing I'd done. Black and white. I was stunned when a gasp of amazement went round the room and people came to look closer. I knew it was ok, but not that it was *that* ok! I showed them another, and some pencil drawings. I said to the man, "Anyway, there's no reason why you can't use colour. Just make a written colour insert to remind you which is which and ***play***, and enjoy yourself. If your colours aren't 'true to life' it really doesn't matter. Your choices will balance, and will make an original artwork which will make people stop in their tracks, because it ***is *** original and different and lovely. That man went home that day determined to buy a sketch book and pencils, and the rest of them having had their eyes opened to the loveliness of 'art work' of black and white and the shades of grey. And so back to you, happy vibes 😊❤️ (I love your name, btw!). Don't put yourself down. Enjoy your pencil work!!! And just for fun one day, buy yourself a set of Crayola coloured pencils and experiment with single colour drawing, in exactly the same way that you use your grey graphite pencils. And have some fun!

@happy vibes 😊❤️ Glad to help! But don't try harder. Just enjoy what you do, experiment a little and allow your own style to develop. Art's for fun, not for stress, or comparing ourselves with others. Art's for fun, and what we create is unique to us. No-one else can do it the same as we do, and if we've had fun creating it, no-one can take that away from us, unless we let them. Just like those bird watchers at the RSPB reserve, there *will* be those who will be amazed at what you do with 'just a pencil', and there'll be others who just 'dont see it', so don't let anyone put you down! Have fun and enjoy yourself!
