As someone else dared in the comments, I watched this in .75x speed and oh my goodness! The slowed down motion just made me appreciate more how seamlessly fluid and intricate his moves are. Heechul describes Taemin's dancing as 'dreamy' and I absolutely agree. Grace, elegance, and passion. I prefer this performance video, no distraction, just him dancing. Pure ART.

If Sayanara Hitori was like 75% contempory style he went near full blown for this and it fascinating to see as he doesn't have a bg in classical or contemporary dances. His foundation is street based, pop and lock but he's grown in such a way he can even do dances like this. I can only imagine he's a dream for cheorographers to work with. They can create routines as challanging and complicated as they please and rest assure the vision will be excuted perfectly. No need to simplify things or anything like that.

So SM doesn't provide any classical/jazz/modern training...? It makes me think of Michael Jackson -- he had no formal training either. Some people are just prodigies I imagine. I had a boyfriend who was a concert-level classical musician who won international competitions. I remember one summer he said he picked up another instrument. Within two months he was playing Bach on it. Mind you he also played jazz/rock guitar. So I guess it is the same in dance if you are enormously gifted as Taemin is then you can conquer new territory as it were. Makes me wonder though had he had the training would he be even better? Would HE have wanted that training...? In any case, he is a joy to watch and thanks to other KZbin commenter for link of work behind the scenes with choreographer! I could watch hours of him working on the creative process -- so interesting. He falls in a heap of sweat and exhaustion after trying to master a part that we eventually see as effortless.

I have to say I didn't know much about Taemin but I'm glad I've stumbled over this because the artistry inside this man is beyond words. His underlying basics is street but he has developed himself enough that choreographers could throw anything at him and he would make it look great. He is one of the only kpop idols who have mastered the slow to fast transitions whilst retaining fluidity and expressing emotion through his body movements. Not only is his dancing developed but also his vocals (in my opinion the best singing main dancer).

Do you know why it is that Taemin's specialty is basically street dancing...? Popping and Locking? Was this how he was trained at SM as a trainee? Was it his particular interest? Do you know..? Your post was very interesting -- he's obviously a prodigy. I think he could even give ballet a go :-) Though to my own taste that would be a waste of his talent -- although obviously ballet is amazingly expressive etc. Just not my cup of tea.

I love watching him dance but when he does contemporary and modern its some of my favorite. His lines are absolutely gorgeous and watching him move is like watching water flow as if his body isnt segmented or jointed off (arms, legs, head), but more like one large part if I am making sense.

Taemin has more than just talent and skill. He has learned to express himself through dance and I'm pretty sure that he will become more and more involved in creating choreographies in the future (I know he was already involved in the choreo for SHINee's "tell me what to do"). This is what impresses me so much about SHINee in general. They never take their current achievements for granted or just carry on with the same thing they have been doing for a while. All of them are strongly involved in creating, organizing and polishing their art. This is unusual and outstanding.

Absolutely. And in fact the stage/special effects on many of these dances makes me wanna scream with frustration -- like at a SHINee concert. These performers do not need anything but their own bodies and art to create a sense of excitement. All the lasers and lights and visuals are a desecration to their work. Also horrible editing. For instance with this dance the camera just held on his entire body and we could see the dance without editing to his face, etc. Drives me NUTS. 정말 이 영상을 보면서 참 이중적인 감정이 드는게... 내가 사랑하는 아티스트들이 벌써 이렇게 많이 성장했고 앞으로도 성장할 수 있다는 걸 끊임없이 증명해줘서 한없이 기쁜데 그런 아티스트를 데리고 있는 소속사가 아티스트 속도에 못 맞춘다는 점. 아티스트 키워서 데뷔시켜준 건 참 고마운데 그걸로 끝이 아니라구요... 스엠은 온갖 살아있는 보물을 많이 가지고 있는 회사인데 그 보물들이 세상에서 더 찬란하게 빛나도록 도와주지는 못할망정 오히려 자기들만 보려고 감추는 것 같아. 내가 스엠이면 할 수 있는 역량 다 동원해서 홍보도 참 열심히 해주고 역량있는 가수들 열심히 서포트 해줄텐데... ㅠㅜ 제발 제대로 일합시다 에쎔 ㅠㅜ
